The Rings of Power is like a diamond that has been given to cut by not very skilled craftsmen, who have no idea of its true value.
Where the series crew fails, the fans come – Reddit users offered their own ways to improve the criticized show. It is unlikely that these tips will be seen and considered by anyone, but we can dream, right?
1. Fire the Showrunners
If you had a $1 billion project to make, would you put two rookies in charge who had never worked on anything this big? Jeffrey Bezos did just that. John D. Payne and Patrick McKay have no experience making fantasy projects or expensive TV series.
They only have one major film in their portfolio – Star Trek Beyond, which, let's face it, was not very well made and did not do very well at the box office.
So the most obvious, if somewhat cruel, solution...

Waiting for The Rings of Power season 2 feels a lot like Gandalf and Pippin looking out from Minas Tirith at the approaching fires of Mordor, a deep breath before the plunge. The Rings of Power season 2 wrapped filming last year and is reportedly slated to hit our screens in 2024, but Amazon has yet to announce a proper release date or tease anything from the new season beside vague hints from cast members last summer (like our interview with Morfydd Clark about what’s next for Galadriel). It’s been a long wait, with the last episode of the series airing in 2022.
But fans shouldn’t take the silence surrounding the second season as a sign that Amazon has cooled on its big-budget Lord of the Rings series. In fact, according to reports, the studio and showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne are already whipping up a third season of the show.

Whether you liked it or not, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a hit series for Amazon and it was expected that the series would be renewed for a second season, whose eight episodes will premiere later this year. And while we’re still waiting for more precise updates on the premiere date of the second season, it seems that the season is going to bring us one of the biggest events in television history, as a major battle event has been teased by the showrunners of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The showrunners, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, had a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, discussing the series, the creative process behing the series’ evolution, as well as teasing a major battle that is supposedly to take place in the second season of the show.

Paramount is making another effort to make Star Trek 4 happen, with The Flight Attendant writer Steve Yockey behind the script.
Eight years on from Star Trek: Beyond, Paramount and Bad Robot are still trying to get a sequel together that reunites the series’ cast, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban
The name behind this latest attempt is screenwriter Steve Yockey, who’s best known for TV series The Flight Attendant – a comedy murder mystery starring Kaley Cuoco. Yockey also wrote episodes of Supernatural and the Scream TV spin-off series.
Nothing else is known about the project at present, though Variety reports that Paramount hopes to get the core cast first established in 2009’s Star Trek, which also includes Zoe Saldana and John Cho. The glaring exception will of course be Anton Yelchin, who tragically passed away in 2016.

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hasn’t been released yet, but work has already begun on season 3.
According to THR, The Rings of Power showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne have signed a new three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The report also mentions that McKay and Payne have begun breaking the initial story for The Rings of Power season 3, but that a writers’ room has not yet been assembled and an official order hasn’t been given. Considering how much money has already been invested in the series, I’d say a third season is pretty much a given unless something catastrophic happens.
“We began this remarkable journey with Jd and Patrick more than five and a half years ago and have never looked back,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We continue to be amazed by the...

In what seemed like forever, TV audiences would finally get to watch The Rings of Power season 2 in 2024. Developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay for Prime Video, The Rings of Power season 1 became the streaming platform’s most-watched of any Prime Video original series. Although set in a different age, The Rings of Power exists in the same fictional world of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels and appendices. The Rings of Power season 1 began thousands of years before the events in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings live-action movies.

The intent of THR‘s annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Showrunners is to provide an accurate state of the TV union — a rundown of the writer-producers selling in an increasingly fraught media climate, making culturally relevant and awards-friendly shows and serving the masses at a time when consensus entertainment has all but vanished. It’s also a great opportunity to pick some brains.
Those showrunners who made the 2023 list were polled on a variety of subjects. If Suits can become a streaming hit years after ending, what other shows deserve a similar fate? What IP are they dying to get their hands on? What’s already a pressing issue for the next WGA contract negotiation with the studios? And if they found themselves with a burner social media account, what would they do with it?
Here are some of the best answers to those and more questions.

House of the Dragon scored a nom for Outstanding Drama Series, with additional recognition for its production design, cinematography, fantasy/sci-fi costumes, period and/or character makeup (non-prosthetic), prosthetic makeup, sound editing and special visual effects. The Rings of Power registered solely below-the-line, with noms in the areas of fantasy/sci-fi costumes, main title design, prosthetic makeup, original main title theme music, sound editing and special visual effects.

Fantasy on TV was once the preserve of teen-skewing shows like Xena and Hercules, until Game of Thrones made things bigger but bloodier with its blockbuster eight-year run. Now, however, the genre is expanding in unexpected ways, typified by Amazon’s The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power. Where we might have expected another adaptation about obviously good folk fighting clear evil, the show that emerged offers a look at power, obsession and conflict set thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien’s foundational text. After Thrones (and its own prequel), it is a coming-of-age for the genre, proof that fantasy is capable of offering subtlety and complexity as well as large-scale adventure.
The TV spin-off from the most influential fantasy book of all time might have gone any number of ways: there were rumors of a new adaptation of Frodo’s story or a straightforward prequel about a young Aragorn.

“Hacks” Season 3 production has been paused due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.

Deadline first reported that the show, starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, will not continue filming without showrunners and creators Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky on set. Per WGA rules, union members cannot provide writing services, including script revisions, while a strike is going on.

When A.C. Bradley was hired to write on the 2022 Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel,” part of her job entailed going to set every day to help with re-writing scenes on the fly while the show was being filmed.
“It was a mixture of everything from wanting to add new characters into the show to needing to change things because of location,” Bradley tells Variety. Just one example: The day the production was set to shoot a chase sequence at Marriott hotel, she helped to add a beat where the chase entered the kitchen because it was nearby. “Why not use what you have?”
This kind of scenario is, of course, no longer possible during the ongoing writers strike. “Pens down” means no WGA member can write or change scripts whatsoever, before, during or after production. In many cases, that has meant that showrunners have left their shows entirely, like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is the latest marquee TV series to move forward with production amid the ongoing WGA strike, but the Amazon Prime Video show will be doing so without the services of executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

The writers strike, so far, has not affected production on Amazon series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and HBO’s House of the Dragon, both of which are currently shooting in the UK.
As Deadline has previously reported, scripts also had been completed for HBO’s House of the Dragon, which is currently shooting its second season in London, and productions remains unaffected.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power is in production on Season 2, with 19 days of filming remaining. Scripts and other creative materials were finished well in advance of the strike, so production has not been affected. Rings of Power non-writing executive producers, directors and crew will oversee and complete to wrap, without the showrunners, J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay..

This article contains spoilers for season 1 of The Rings of Power and a likely character return for season 2.
In the penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1, Elendil’s (Lloyd Owen) eldest son Isildur (Maxim Baldry) is seemingly crushed by a burning building while rescuing Queen Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and others during the orcs’ attack on the Southlands. Isildur is presumed dead by his father and fellow soldiers, and they mourn him as such. However, a set photo from the filming of The Rings of Power’s second season seem to indicate that Isildur somehow survived the collapse and the fire and is very much alive.

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
The Rings of Power was always going to be a controversial topic among Lord of the Rings fans, especially for the way it set out to expand the story of Middle-earth beyond J.R.R. Tolkien‘s original work. While the bones of the Amazon series’ story come from The Appendices of The Lord of the Rings books, the show also introduces whole new characters and events as well as origin stories for established heroes and villains that don’t exist in the beloved writer’s legendarium. Some viewers have dismissed The Rings of Power as Tolkien “fan fiction,” while others defend the series as a great way to dive into unexplored corners of Middle-earth history, the tumultuous Second Age in this case.

Since its premiere last September, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been proudly branded a hit by Amazon. Prime Video proclaimed that the fantasy series premiere day broke records for the streamer with 25 million viewers tuning in. As of March, Amazon has been calling it their biggest show ever, with over 100 million people worldwide tuning in. But streaming ratings are always nebulous, and a new report is calling the show’s success into question.
In the United States, only 37 percent of viewers who started “The Rings of Power” actually watched all eight episodes to completion, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter. The number was not shared directly from Amazon, but reportedly came from sources within the organization. Overseas, the completion rate was significantly better, but at 45 percent, less than half of all viewers were compelled to complete Amazon’s Middle-Earth adventure.

An electrical fire broke out Monday morning at Bray Studios where Amazon Studios’ The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings of Power is filming its second season. The fire reportedly started in a warehouse on the perimeter of the back lot.
Fire department was called, with multiple engines responding. Filming stopped for about an hour while the fire was being put out and resumed thereafter.
“At 12:26pm on Monday, 3 April, we received reports of a fire at Bray Studios near Windsor,” the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement, adding that crews from Bracknell, Slough and Maidenhead Fire Stations were sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in a single-storey warehouse,” the Fire and Rescue Service added.

Given that Prime Video’s epic fantasy series The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power was created in the wake of Game Of Thrones exploding the small-screen swords-and-sorcery-saga scene, it was only natural that there’d be some cast crossover. After establishing Robert Aramayo (briefly a young Ned Stark in the later seasons of Thrones) in the first season, Season 2 is now adding Mance Rayder himself, Ciarán Hinds, is one of three fresh cast additions for the next run of Rings Of Power, currently shooting in the UK.
Also entering the cast is Rory Kinnear_.
Who the three fresh faces are playing is being kept under wraps – but with the new episodes shooting now, hopefully it won’t be too long a wait until we’re taken back to Middle-earth for the next chapter in the Second Age story. The new season continues Jd Payne.

Variety reports that Ciarán Hinds, Rory Kinnear, and Tanya Moodie have all joined production on the next adventure set in the world of J.R.R. When Amazon debuted its highly anticipated Most Expensive TV Series Ever Made — The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power last fall — the company had to contend with a bothersome rival from Warner Bros. Discovery: the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Warners picked a debut date for its prestige TV drama 12 days before Amazon’s $1 billion gamble launched, ensuring nonstop media and fandom comparisons, many of which were less favorable to the family-friendly Rings. For Amazon, the head-to-head rivalry was all the more galling because Warners is a minority licensee stakeholder in Rings, so they’re ostensibly supposed to be on the same side. Team Rings’ public spin concerning the matchup went like this: None of this matters because these shows are totally different.

Verve, the talent and literary agency, has appointed a new CEO as it expands its representation ambitions.
Bill Weinstein was named to the top job by the Los Angeles-based agency’s 11 partners, the firm said on Jan. 18. “I am incredibly grateful and humbled to be selected for this position by my fellow Partners and peers,” Weinstein stated.
Weinstein, previously a motion picture literary agent with WME, was part of the trio — along with Bryan Besser and Adam Levine — who left the Endeavor-owned agency to form their own firm, which became Verve in 2010.
As founding partner, Weinstein engaged in negotiations with the Writers Guild when talks over packaging fees and affiliate production were hotly debated in 2019, and the agency broke ranks to sign the writers’ code of conduct before the majors made deals.

Verve has appointed founding partner Bill Weinstein to the position of CEO, the first in the agency’s 13-year history.
In his newly created position, Weinstein’s responsibilities will “continue to evolve,” though he will remain working in his capacity representing clients, “an indication of Verve’s continued commitment to its core tenet of advocating for creative talent across all levels of the company,” per the agency.
Weinstein’s clients include J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay (“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), Sara Hess (“House of the Dragon”), Jac Schaeffer, Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Mike Jones, Adele Lim (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Meg LeFauve (“Inside Out”), John August (“Aladdin”), Allison Schroeder (“Hidden Figures”), Brian K Vaughan (“Paper Girls”), James Schamus and Geoffrey Fletcher (“Precious”).
The decision to appoint Weinstein to Verve’s first-ever CEO was announced internally last week by fellow founding Verve partners Adam Levine and Bryan Besser in an all-company meeting.

James Corden has revealed that he auditioned to play hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings film series from director Peter Jackson.
Unfortunately, the process didn’t go particularly well for the Late Late Show host, as he notes in an episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast published on Tuesday. “Everyone, every single person in London auditioned for Lord of the Rings. Everybody,” Corden says in a segment, which you can view above. “I auditioned for Samwise…and I was doing it, Josh. I was doing the accent and everything.”
Corden said that two of his friends also went in to audition, with all three landing callbacks to take place the next day. “And then we got called back the next day,” Corden recalls. “And then none of us got called back after that.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power started setting records before a frame of it had been released when word came out of New Zealand last year that its eight-episode first season cost a record 465 million to produce (not factoring in tax rebates and start-up costs amortization.)
In an interview with Deadline, Vernon Sanders, Head of Global TV for Amazon Studios, says the financial bet “has more than paid off.” He addresses the success of the show on Prime Video — where it broke records for most global viewers in its first day (25 million) and overall (more than 100 million), for minutes streamed (24 billion) and signups worldwide during its launch window, attracted younger viewers (record number of adults 18-34 for a Prime Video original) and affluent audiences — and beyond, boosting Amazon’s sales of J.R.R. Tolkien books on which the series was based.

Season 1 of the generally well-received "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came to an epic and satisfying end exactly two months ago, but fans of the sprawling and large-scale production knew that they would have to settle in for quite a long wait before seeing where the adventure took all our favorite heroes and villains next. We know that all the surviving cast of characters, from Morfyyd Clark's Galadriel to Robert Aramayo's Elrond to Markella Kavenagh's Nori to Charlie Vickers' Sauron, will be back for another round (although with one notable recasting). Ditto for a batch of new actors who will be joining the fray, setting up an even bigger storyline to come in season 2. But what about the creative team behind the camera?

“Deep Dive” is a in-depth podcast and video essay series with the stars and creative team behind an exceptional piece of filmmaking. For this winter edition, the IndieWire Crafts team partnered with Prime Video to take a closer look at the first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, stars Morfydd Clark, Sophia Nomvete, and Charlie Vickers, and eight key members of the creative team behind the series.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” truly embraces both halves of its “based on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien” credit. Lots of people know “The Lord of the Rings”: “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Two Towers,” and “The Return of the King” have sold millions of copies and were later adapted by Peter Jackson into a box-office-conquering, Oscar-hoarding series of feature films.

Costume designer Kate Hawley and production designer Ramsey Avery were thrilled to join a talented team of creators and artists for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” Prime Video’s sprawling fantasy series.
“Rings of Power,” with a price tag that reportedly could hit 1 billion both for the rights and the production of a planned five seasons, is the most expensive television series ever produced. The overall arc tells the story of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth in the Second Age, thousands of years before the Third Age of the Peter Jackson-helmed “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy. The first season introduced viewers to elves, dwarves, orcs and Harfoots one of three hobbit races) during a time of prosperity and relative peace.
When Avery first sat down with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, they had several design goals.
“A lot of high fantasy is stylized.
