I’ve been a fan of the Manetti Brothers – Antonio and Marco – since the first time I saw their fantastic sci-fi horror The Arrival of Wang way back in 2012. Since then the pair have directed numerous films, including Paura 3D and the action ‘Mafia musical’ Love and Bullets. The pair also produced Daniele Misischia’s fantastic zombie film The End?, which screened at Frightfest in 2017… Why mention those films? Because all of those films have – unfortunately – faded into obscurity on these shores since debuting at films festivals here in the UK. Hopefully Diabolik, the duo’s latest film based on the classic Italian comic book anti-hero of the same name will not suffer the same fate,...

Il mostro della cripta Review — Il mostro della cripta (2021) Film Review from the 74th Annual Locarno Film Festival, a movie directed by Daniele Misischia, starring Tobia De Angelis, Amanda Campana, Pasquale Petrolo, Giovanni Calcagno, Nicola Branchini, and Chiara Caselli. Relishing in a particularly American palate of media nostalgia is one thing, but fully embodying [...]

Having completed the long-awaited Diabolik, brothers Marco and Antonio Manetti are now producing a horror comedy on behalf of Mompracem, directed by a former colleague of theirs. After the hiatus caused by the health crisis, the Manetti brothers (Love and Bullets) are back on set in a producing role for Il Mostro della cripta, a horror comedy directed by Daniele Misischia. A former cameraman and second unit director for Marco and Antonio Manetti, in 2017 Misischia signed his name to his first work The End? - an apocalyptic horror film set almost entirely inside an elevator - which was also produced by the Manetti brothers, in league with Carlo Macchitella, for Mompracem. The Manettis, who only recently completed the hotly anticipated work Diabolik (read our news), also penned the screenplay to the present work, alongside Paolo Logli and Alessandro Pondi. Starring Lillo, Tobia De Angelis and Amanda Campana in lead...
The eighth edition of Cinema Made in Italy will launch at the Ciné Lumière in South Kensington on Wednesday 7th March – and the big highlight, at least for me personally, is the UK debut of the Manetti Brothers (pictured above) latest film Ammore E Malavita, aka Love and Bullets.
For those unfamiliar with the Manetti Brothers – Antonio and Marco – the duo were the directors behind the amazing sci-fi horror The Arrival of Wang and produced Daniele Misischia’s fantastic zombie film The End?, which screened at Frightfest last year and I named as one of my Top 10 films of 2017.
Set against the backdrop of (organised) crime in the beguiling Bay of Naples, Love and Bullets has all the elements of a dramatic love story, accompanied by car chases, shoot-outs and spontaneous dance numbers. Defined by some as a ‘Mafia musical’, the latest film by the Manetti Brothers shakes up cinematic genres,...

Claudio Verona is a young and cynical businessman. One day he gets locked in his Roman office elevator before an important meeting with a client. Soon this annoying obstacle will turn into a nightmare. For outside that metal cage a deadly virus has begun to infect and transform people into extremely violent and dangerous zombies!
Much like their directorial effort, The Arrival of Wang, the Manetti Bros. latest production, helmed by one of their longtime collaborators Daniele Misischia, manages to find the humanity, the human story, within a much larger plot. Both films focus on smaller parts of a much bigger story, really showing the impact it’s having on one person, not an indiscriminate number of random “heroes’ a la a number of big-budget apocalypse movies – for that...

Screening at the forthcoming FrightFest in London later this month, Daniele Misischia’s The End? has an interesting premise: a man is trapped inside of an elevator. With only four weeks till the start of the festival, Frightfest organisers have announced not only some of the guests set to appear over the August Bank Holiday weekend, but also the addition of another film to the line-up! The 150 plus guest-list this year is as vibrant and eclectic as ever, with nearly 40 of the films represented… New to the film line-up is Jackals, Kevin Greutert’s potent blend of horror thriller, home invasion terror and murder cult chiller, which stars Stephen Dorff and Deborah Kara Unger. The film is scheduled for Saturday 25th August, 4pm and 4.30pm in the main screens at the Cineworld Leicester Square.

Back in the heart of London’s West End for its 18th ‘adults-only’ anniversary, the world renowned horror and fantasy film festival will take place at the Cineworld Leicester Square and The Prince Charles Cinema from Aug 24 – Aug 28 2017, taking over five screens to present 64 films including 20 World, 22 European and 18 UK Premieres. The opening night attraction is the global premiere of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s criminally entertaining Cult of Chucky (pictured above), with writer and director Don Mancini and stars Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif in attendance, alongside the iconic deadly doll of destruction himself. Mancini said today:
