Barbie director Greta Gerwig doesn’t not say there might be a Ken spin-off movie… But she doesn’t not say there won’t be one, either. Hope that’s clear.
He might just be Ken, but Ryan Gosling's smooth-groined man-child captured the hearts (and wallets) of the world when Greta Gerwig's Barbie triple-somersaulted to box office success earlier this year. There’s even a risk that Gosling’s performance rather overshadowed the film’s real star (Margot Robbie deserves much more credit than she’s been getting for pulling off arguably the more difficult part with aplomb), but we’ll put that soapbox away for another time.
Because, as is often the case with $1.4bn original movies, sequel and spin-off talk has been following Barbie around for a while. Though Robbie has previously said a straight-up Barbie 2 was unlikely people just keep asking Greta Gerwig if there might...

Greta Gerwig hit box office gold with Barbie, the film starring Margot Robbie as the titular character and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
Following the movie’s success, there have been questions about following it up with a sequel. Warner Bros. nor Mattel have confirmed anything is in the works, but in a recent interview, Gerwig was asked about a potential Barbie spinoff revolving around Ken.
“I mean, the truth is, you know…I guess we’ll see,” Gerwig told Sharyn Alfonsi during a 60 Minutes interview.
Gerwig played coy to Alfonsi’s question about a Ken movie, saying she couldn’t comment on the matter but didn’t shut down the possibility entirely.
The topic of an entire movie focusing on Gosling’s Ken came to be after Gerwig mentioned they had a lot of ideas for the character that ultimately didn’t make the final draft of the script.

Price Gouging
Bill Whitaker delves deep into the controversial world of U.S. defense contracting. According to former top Pentagon contract negotiator, Shay Assad, the system lacks accountability, enabling major defense contractors to exploit it, racking up excess cash and rewarding shareholders on the taxpayers’ dime. Whitaker confronts this issue head-on, raising questions about how the Department of Defense and the taxpayers are being fleeced. Is it a case of poor oversight or a systemic failure in controlling costs? The segment is produced by Sam Hornblower.

Nicolas Cage recounts overcoming a “dark” period in his life.
The 59-year-old actor was once “over-invested in real estate” which led to him being $6 million in debt.
“The real estate market crashed, and I couldn’t get out in time,” Cage recalled on CBS’s “60 Minutes” Sunday. “I paid them all back, but it was about $6 million. I never filed for bankruptcy.”

The “National Treasure” star worked back to back in order to overcome his financial struggles.
“It was [a] dark [period],” he admitted, adding that booking multiple roles “no doubt” helped him pay back what he owed.
“Work was always my guardian angel. It may not have been blue chip, but it was still work,” he told journalist Sharyn Alfonsi.
The Oscar winner then defended the direct-to-video movies he starred in during that time, as they were often ridiculed.

In a significant move, ABC News chief White House correspondent Cecilia Vega is departing the network to join CBS News, where she will be a correspondent on 60 Minutes.
Vega, a veteran TV anchor and correspondent, has previously anchored shows like Good Morning America and the weekend edition of ABC’s World News Tonight. She will begin reporting for CBS in the spring and will continue to be based out of Washington D.C.
Now in its 55th season, 60 Minutes is the most-watched news program on TV and one of the most-watched non-NFL broadcasts (though it often benefits from an NFL lead-in).
The show’s lineup of correspondents includes some of the most recognizable names in TV news, including CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell, former CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, Jon Wertheim, Sharyn Alfonsi, and TV legends Lesley Stahl and Bill Whitaker.

Cecilia Vega, who has been with ABC News for more than a decade, will jump to a new correspondent role on CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” leaving behind an influential role covering the White House for the Disney-backed news operation.
Her move marks a rare effort to expand the hub of on-air personnel devoted to “60 Minutes.” In the recent past, executive producer Bill Owens has worked to augment his staff, elevating correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Jon Wertheim to full-time status and trying to develop a team devoted to a separate streaming effort tied to the show, an initiative that was ultimately scrapped. Pluto, the ad-supported streaming site operated by parent company Paramount Global, does feature a channel that features curated and archival material from the long-running program.
In an interview, Owens said he has been impressed by Vega’s range of reportorial experience as well as her time spent in print journalism.

There’s a last-minute change brewing at “60 Minutes.”
When the venerable CBS newsmagazine launches its 55th season this Sunday, viewers may notice a twist at the end of the hour. The show is debuting a new end segment, something that its top producer hopes will resonate with crowds as much as previous codas like “Point/Counterpoint” or the musings of Andy Rooney did in their respective eras.
“We have tried different things to fill the space, and they felt a little unsatisfying,” executive producer Bill Owens tells Variety. “There wasn’t a consistency to it. I ended up giving that time back to the stories and the correspondents, so they would each have 20 to 30 seconds more. They were all very happy to have that time, but it felt like something was missing.”

CBS News is defending a segment of 60 Minutes that probed whether Florida Gov. Ron Desantis showed favoritism to a corporate donor in making decisions about the vaccine rollout earlier this year.
The segment, which aired on Sunday, focused on how the wealthy cut the line to gain access to the vaccines. One aspect of the segment focused on the decision to partner with Publix, the supermarket chain, to distribute the vaccine in Palm Beach County. 60 Minutes focused on how that decision made it more difficult for seniors who didn’t live near one of their locations. That included those who lived in the Glades, with a high concentration of Black and Latino and low income residents.

Sharyn Alfonsi admits she’s having something of a “crazy season” on “60 Minutes.”
Her work this year for the CBS newsmagazine has taken her from an investigation of the death of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein to a profile of beloved comedian Adam Sandler. The Sandler feature, which aired late last year, proved to be a “palette cleanser” of sorts, after Alfonsi spent time interviewing El Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele and gaining access to the cell in which Epstein was held.
Alfonsi is being awarded a Columbia University-du Pont Silver Baton this week for her reporting on the migration crisis on the U.S.-Mexican Border, a sign that her work at the newsmagazine, where she serves as a contributor, is gaining a wider profile. “I’m kind of trying to pick up the number of stories I’m doing, but with the idea that [executive producer] Bill Owens gave me: ‘Don’t...
