For his follow-up to Blue Story, Rapman is going big. The multi-talented creator announced himself as a filmmaker to watch with his hit debut feature film – earning sizeable box office and a raft of positive reviews, despite controversial cinema bans on his tale of childhood friends driven apart by gang violence. His latest project, Supacell, isn’t a film but a Netflix series – an original show about a group of South Londoners who develop superpowers, exploring how their lives are forever changed.
While the idea of ordinary people receiving extraordinary abilities is a familiar format, Rapman is bringing his own personal perspective to it – while drawing from what came before in beloved shows like Heroes and Misfits. “I loved Heroes,” he tells Empire. “It was the closest to my image of what I thought a show about superpowers should be like. It was a massive inspiration.” And while he’s bringing in genre elements,...

A new chapter in Doctor Who canon history began with the first full episode of the Fifteenth Doctor’s adventures “The Church on Ruby Road.” Series 14 opener “Space Babies” takes the Doctor and Ruby’s travels to the distant future. The adventures that follow will also feature trips to the Swinging ’60s, to the Regency Era, and to faraway planets.
While there will be moments of dancing, sightseeing, and meeting new people and beings, there will also be moments of danger. Whether from villains upset that their plans for domination are being challenged, or from extremes in the environment, there are plenty of things to trigger the Doctor and Ruby Sunday’s fight-or-flight instinct.
Den of Geek interviewed Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson about their character traits, what the Doctor and companion Ruby are most afraid of this season, and the importance of opening the Tardis door to everyone.

In a busy weekend at the box office, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the Sydney Sweeney horror vehicle “Immaculate,” IFC’s “Late Night with the Devil,” and two animated rereleases (“Luca” and recent Oscar winner “The Boy and the Heron“) will compete for the top spots. Meanwhile, a recent box-office smash is hitting digital platforms.
The contender to watch this week: “Bob Marley: One Love“
Reinaldo Marcus Green‘s biopic about the pioneering reggae singer is still riding its theatrical wave ($170 million worldwide and counting), but “Bob Marley: One Love” is also available to purchase or rent on VOD. Kingsley Ben-Adir shed his Kenergy to play Marley, icon of dorm-room posters and pacifistic chill-out vibes, opposite a supporting cast that includes Lashana Lynch, Tosin Cole, “Happy Valley” breakout James Norton, and Michael Gandolfini. “One Love” is a fairly rote retelling enhanced by its subject’s music, but even the weakest biopic tendencies have a groovy appeal.

Supacell is a British superhero series heading to Netflix in June from Rapman, and here’s the trailer.
While America generally has the monopoly on superhero films, Britain has had its fair share of caped crusaders over the years.
The most recent example is Emma Moran’s Extraordinary, which is now available to watch on Itvx. From 2009 to 2013, Howard Overman achieved huge success with five series of irreverent comedy drama Misfits. Drew Pearce, who went on to co-write Iron Man 3 with Shane Black, began his career writing the little seen superhero sitcom No Heroics in 2008.
Perhaps the biggest shame, though, is that the film adaptation of clasic 1970s cartoon Bananaman, which was voiced by Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden, also known as The Goodies, never materialised, though a stage musical premiered at the Southwark Playhouse in 2017.

"You can save her..." "How?" "You need all four. One dies, she dies." Netflix has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a thriller series titled Supacell, arriving for streaming this summer. It's the next creation by the Blue Story director who goes under the moniker "Rapman", an urban London story about people with super powers who have to join together. "Find them, before it's too late." When a regular group of ordinary people from South London are gifted with superpowers, they find their new abilities have made them targets for a powerful entity. The series stars Tosin Cole as Michael, Nadine Mills as Sabrina, Eric Kofi Abrefa as Andre, Calvin Demba as Rodney, Josh Tedeku as Tazer, Adelayo Adedayo as Dionne, Rayxia Ojo as Sharleen, and Giacomo Mancini as Spud. There's only a little bit of footage in this first teaser, but enough to make me intrigued. Looks pretty cool.

Netflix has debuted a teaser trailer for the series created by Rapman ‘Supacell’.
A regular group of people are unexpectedly gifted with superpowers. Before the group really get a chance to figure out how to use their powers they find their new special abilities have made them targets for the powerful agency that created them.
The group of five ordinary people unexpectedly develop superpowers. They have little in common except for one thing: they are all Black South Londoners. It is down to one man, Michael Lasaki, to bring them all together to save the woman he loves.
Rapman also serves as lead director while Sebastian Thiel also directs. The cast includes Tosin Cole as Michael, Nadine Mills as Sabrina, Eric Kofi Abrefa as Andre, Calvin Demba as Rodney, Josh Tedeku as Tazer, Adelayo Adedayo as Dionne, Rayxia Ojo as Sharleen, Giacomo Mancini as Spud and Eddie Marsan will play Ray.

The timing is perfect for Michael and Dionne. They’ve got a home, a car, each other and their whole lives ahead of them. Until out of nowhere, Michael develops superpowers and is tasked with an urgent mission to save Dionne’s life.
Michael, played by former Doctor Who companion Ryan actor Tosin Cole, isn’t the only Black Londoner suddenly afflicted with super-abilities. Four other unrelated people have also had their lives turned upside down by glowy-eyed trips to the future, and it’s up to Michael to unite them to change the course of fate. Can he do it in time to save Dionne?
That’s the question set by the very first teaser for Netflix’s six-episode fantasy drama Supacell:
Created by Blue Story creator Rapman (Andrew Onwubolu), and starring The Responder and Timewasters’ Adelayo Adedayo with The Power’s Eddie Marsan, Nadine Mills, and more,...

Reinaldo Marcus Green’s Bob Marley: One Love focuses primarily on Marley’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) life between 1976 and 1978, during which time the reggae legend fled Jamaica for London and his homeland was plagued by rampant violence and political upheaval. One might think that this limited scope would allow the filmmakers to explore this era of Marley’s life with some measure of specificity, whether in the challenges his marriage faced as his wife, Rita (Lashana Lynch), spent much of this time in America and Jamaica, or how the fractured state of his homeland and his love for its people informed his landmark 1977 album, Exodus. But Green’s shaggy, disjointed film is less interested in the complexities of Marley’s personal or professional life than it is in presenting him as a hero and an inspiration.

Kingsley Ben-Adir embodies Bob Marley while carrying the burden of being a revolutionary musician in the new trailer for Reinaldo Marcus Green’s upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love. Watch it below.
At one point in the trailer, Ben-Adir shares his frustrations with Lashana Lynch, who plays Marley’s wife, Rita. “There’s a war going on. How I can bring peace? I can’t even get peace for myself,” he says. In response, she offers sage advice: “Sometimes the messenger has to become the message.”

If you've been catching up on end-of-year releases in theaters, chances are you've caught the trailer for "Bob Marley: One Love," the upcoming biopic from director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as Marley, the first actor to ever play the Jamaican musical legend, activism hero, and Rastafari icon in a feature film. Back in April, /Film's Ben Pearson attended CinemaCon in Las Vegas where he was given an exclusive first look at the film, which was produced by Marley's children and surviving family members, including his wife Rita Marley. As such, it was vital to the family that they had a say in who would play the titular figure.
Ahead of the film's release, Rotten Tomatoes released a featurette where Ziggy Marley discussed why Ben-Adir was the perfect actor for the role. "Kingsley does a great job in an artful way, not trying to mimic my father," he said.

With all the drama in the world, sometimes the best way to keep from succumbing to its evil is to let the music ground you. Bob Marley’s famous tunes let the world release its tension in a different way when faced with conflict. It lets you groove to the beat of the human heart. It comforted you like a warm blanket or a caring friend or family member. Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Bob Marley: One Love, which tells the story of the musician who dared not to let tragedy take his message and his love for the people.
The musical biopic stars Kingsley Ben-Adir, Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Tosin Cole, Umi Myers, Anthony Welsh, Nia Ashi, Aston Barrett Jr., Anna-Sharé Blake, Gawaine “J-Summa” Campbell, Naomi Cowan, Alexx A-Game, Michael Gandolfini, Quan-Dajai Henriques, David Kerr, Hector Roots Lewis, Abijah “Naki Wailer” Livingston, Nadine Marshall, Sheldon Shepherd, Andrae Simpson and Stefan A.

"Sometimes the messenger has to become the message." Paramount has debuted the full official trailer for Bob Marley: One Love, the Hollywood biopic about the legendary Jamaican reggae maestro. It's now set for release in February on Valentine's Day in early 2024. Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob. Produced in partnership with the Marley family, and featuring Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita, Bob Marley: One Love lands in theaters soon. The cast also includes Sundra Oakley, Anthony Welsh, Tosin Cole, Umi Myers, James Norton, and Michael Gandolfini. On the big screen for the "first time", discover Bob's powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music – this is his life story. There have been documentaries made about Bob Marley recently, but this is a full-on dramatic biopic made with the support of his family. It looks a bit cheesy but it also looks good - mainly because Bob rules.

Kingsley Ben-Adir transforms into Bob Marley in the new trailer for Bob Marley: One Love which hits cinemas in February.
We first got a glimpse of Reinaldo Marcus Green’s biopic on Bob Marley back in July when a tantalising teaser trailer for Bob Marley: One Love was revealed. Paramount Pictures have now released a full trailer which gives us a better look at Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic musician.
Take a look at the brand new trailer below.
The film will focus on Marley’s rise to fame, but also the struggles that came with it. As seen in the trailer, Marley was the subject of assassination attempts, but his positive outlook on life never waivered. Lashana Lynch portrays Marley’s wife Rita, who notes that “sometimes the messenger has to become the message” as Marley spreads the message of peace through his music.

It’s Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary month, which calls for two things: celebration, and admin. Fittingly, here’s an administrative celebration of the BBC show, featuring every season/series that’s aired so far. After a six-tab Excel file and a lot of overthinking, it’s a big ol’ list arranging each of Doctor Who’s individual runs in reverse order of excellence.
(A note on methodology: this list does not include runs of Doctor Who specials or the TV movie, and Christmas specials are included under the entries for their relevant series.)
There’s good stuff everywhere in Doctor Who. Sometimes it can take a bit of digging to find it, but much of the time, you hardly even have to look – it’s just there, posing as the Commissioner from Sirius 4, or asking “Do I have the right?”. What follows is an attempt to arrange each season...

As questions remain about what will be on The CW next season, the network has saved a canceled cable drama.
According to Deadline, the Nexstar-owned network has picked up 61st Street.
The Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis drama series was canceled at AMC earlier this year, despite all second season episodes being in the can.
At the time, the reason for the cancellation was part of a cost-cutting measure, which found the network canceling a plethora of shows that had previously landed renewals.
The cast of 61st Street is rounded out by Holt McCallany, Tosin Cole, Andrene Ward-Hammond, and Bentley Green.
61st Street was initially picked up with a two-season order on AMC, with the second season being shot back-to-back with the first.
As a result, the entire second season had been filmed, meaning that finding another outlet for the show wouldn't be as tough.

Amid calls for The CW’s cancelled Winchesters to be saved, the network has come to a different series’ rescue: AMC’s previously shelved 61st Street.
The drama series, starring Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis, previously aired its first season on AMC last spring. Season 2, though, was scrapped at the network before it could air, as part of a cost-cutting measure (despite the fact that all episodes had already been filmed).

The CW’s latest acquisition comes from an unlikely place: AMC.
The broadcast network has picked up both seasons of the drama series 61st Street from AMC. The legal thriller stars Courtney B. Vance as an attorney defending a high school athlete (Tosin Cole) who get swept up in Chicago’s corrupt criminal justice system.
AMC picked up the series with a two-season order and aired the first installment in the spring of 2022. Despite season two already being finished, however, AMC scrapped the conclusion — part of a wave of cost-cutting un-renewals at several outlets in late 2022 and early 2023. The first season is set to air in the fall on The CW, with the unseen season two set for 2024.
“There was a lot of love and hard work that went into making 61st Street,” Vance said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that The CW has enthusiastically given all 16 episodes of 61st Street a network home.

Both seasons were shot simultaneously but only its freshman season aired in its entirety last spring. It was originally ordered as part of a two-season pickup.
“There was a lot of love and hard work that went into making 61st Street,” said Vance. “I’m thrilled that The CW has enthusiastically given all 16 episodes of 61st Street a network home. With The CW, I’m confident that we will engage a universe of viewers who will celebrate the series with us. My cast, crew and I can’t wait!”

It feels like we’re all sleeping on Supacell a bit. This new Netflix superhero series was first announced back in November 2021, has a super-strong cast, and has been filming since summer 2022, but there’s very little news about it. It doesn’t even have its own Wikipedia page yet.
Let’s put that right and get better acquainted with this fresh upcoming British superhero drama that could rival the likes of Misfits and Extraordinary:
Supacell Was Created By Pioneering Rapper-Turned-Filmmaker Rapman
Impressively, Rapman – real name Andrew Onwubolu – is only 33 but already has an MBE for services to drama and music. He’s known for dealing with socially conscious themes like suicide, blood donors, and domestic abuse.
You’ll most likely know Rapman for Blue Story, his critically-acclaimed 2019 film, told through the medium of rap, which starred Karla Simone-Spence (The Confessions of Frannie Langton) and Top Boy’s Michael Ward,...
