Taylor Swift debuted her “Fortnight” music video on YouTube Friday evening, along with lyric videos for both that song and the rest of her new surprise double-album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” The video features “Dead Poets Society” actors Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles in cameos, whom she joked about in social media posts where she shared the creative inspiration behind the striking, largely black-and-white clip.
“I’m still laughing from getting to work with the coolest guys on earth, Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles,” Swift wrote — perhaps also chuckling at her own self-referential cameos. She then added an explicit nod to the clear inspiration for her new album’s title: “(tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets).”

At last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift announced her Midnights album. And this year, the album helped her dominate the night with multiple wins, including her fourth for video of the year.
Swift is the only artist to win the top prize four times — this year it was for her No. 1 hit “Anti-Hero.” During the win that closed out the four-hour show Tuesday night, she shared the stage with those who worked on the music video: director of photography Rina Yang and editor Chancler Haynes.
Swift opened and closed the show with honors: She fangirled, like most of the audience, when she accepted the first award of the night from ‘N Sync, who earned a standing ovation from the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
“I am not doing well pivoting from this to this. I had your dolls. Are you doing something? What’s going to happen now?...

When Taylor Swift’s music video for “Wildest Dreams” debuted during the MTV Video Music Awards, I wondered if the uncomfortable undertones of British Colonialism would ping the Internet’s controversy radar. It took a few days, but it finally happened. And — as always with a thorny issue like white imperialism — the lines were drawn in deep in the sand. On NPR, native Kenyan and Ugandan authors Viviane Rutabingwa and James Kassaga Arinaitwe discussed the sting of seeing the fantasy of white colonial Africa play out yet again. Swift has played dress-up in loosely defined historical time periods before. “Love Story” ostensibly takes place in medieval times while “Mean” oscillates between Vaudeville and the 1950s. So without any context — thanks public education! — for exactly how much the pop culture ideal of early 20th-century Africa is whitewashed, the glamour of playing Elizabeth Taylor Light™ in an “exotic” location probably (egregiously) seemed like harmless fun.

An associate of director Joseph Khan has apparently revealed the original concept for the music video for Lady GaGa's 'The Edge of Glory'. GaGa previously confirmed that Khan, who helmed the music video for the song 'LoveGame', would serve as the director for 'The Edge of Glory' as well. However, Khan announced via Twitter recently that he was not involved in the production of the music video, leading to speculation that GaGa had fired the director. Khan's on-set editor Chancler Haynes tweeted the details of the original (more)...
