“Rampage” director Brad Peyton is set to take on another video game adaptation, this time the stealth, third-person shooter franchise “Sniper Elite.”
Peyton is attached to direct “Sniper Elite” as a character-driven, action thriller about an Allied soldier during the height of the Blitz in World War II who engages in a cat-and-mouse chase through London with a Nazi assassin set on killing British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
“A Garden at the End of the World” writer Gary Graham wrote the script based on the video game franchise from game studio Rebellion. The game has a mantra that “one bullet can change history,” and the film is being positioned as “Sherlock Holmes” meets “The Bourne Identity,” with the characters caught on the ground as bombs are raining down on the British capital during its darkest hour. The film’s hero will have to make a choice between the fate of...

Brad Peyton, who directed Dwayne Johnson movies “San Andreas” and “Rampage,” is attached to helm character-driven action thriller “Sniper Elite,” inspired by the stealth-shooter game franchise, which has sold more than 30 million units.
The movie will see an elite Allied sniper, Karl Fairburne, engage in a cat-and-mouse chase through the streets of London at the height of the Blitz during World War II, as he tries to save British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from a Nazi assassin.
The movie is being produced by Marla Studios’ Jean-Julien Baronnet and Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, the game’s producer. Baronnet is the former CEO of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp – whose titles during his time in charge included “Taken” – and the former CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, where he produced Fox’s “Assassin’s Creed,” starring Michael Fassbender.
Rebellion’s games also include “Aliens vs. Predator,” and it owns the rights to the “Judge Dredd” comic-book franchise.

The Brothers in Arms video game franchise is being adapted into a television series that will be run by producer and writer Scott Rosenbaum.
“I’m honored to be joining the frontlines of this project and look forward to creating an emotional experience around a title that means so much to the Gearbox community,” says Rosenbaum. “What attracted me to this series was that while it’s effectively a show about war, the series is really about the incredible stories of the ordinary men and women, from the soldiers, resistance groups, to local civilians who are confronted and overcame impossibly difficult, extraordinary situations. In addition, it’s incredibly exciting to be able to bring these previously classified, unknown stories to an audience, stories that an audience is going to be quite frankly shocked they hadn’t heard before.”

A “Duke Nukem” movie is in the works with Gearbox Software teaming with “Assassin’s Creed” producer Jean-Julien Baronnet to adapt the video game into a feature film, Variety has learned exclusively.
Gearbox had been working on “Duke Nukem” with Paramount Studios and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, with John Cena rumored as a possible star earlier this year. Paramount, however, is no longer involved in the project.
Duke Nukem first appeared in the 1991 eponymous video game, developed by Apogee Software, as a muscular cigar-chomping man who always wears Ray-Bans and sports a flat-top haircut as he fights aliens to save planet Earth by using enormous physical strength and his expertise in firearms. He’s appeared in 19 video games as the title character, most recently in “Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour.”

A “Talking Tom and Friends” movie may be heading to the multiplex as developer Outfit7 teams with “Assassin’s Creed” producer Jean-Julien Baronnet to adapt the mobile app into a feature film.
“Talking Tom,” a wisecracking cat that responds to gestures made on smartphone or tablet screens, was first introduced eight years ago. The Duke Nukem movie is still alive and is finally moving forward, with John Cena remaining the rumored star.
Duke Nukem is headed to the big screen. It’s taken a long time, but there seems to be solid progress on bringing the ultraviolent classic video game character to the big screen.
WWE franchise-face wrestler John Cena – whose stock as a movie star is rising, notably with his appearance in December’s Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee – was reportedly eyed back in January 2018 to star as the lewd, crude, flattop-rocking, heavily-armed exploder of things. While, nearly a year later, that rumor remains, we’ve heard next to nothing about the project ever since. However, as 2018 rounds the finish line, there finally appears to be some movement.

The Steve Jobs and Macbeth actor is currently shooting the video game adaptation in London.
Speaking to Screen in an interview from the set of the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed, Michael Fassbender revealed that he was “absolutely interested” in building a franchise around the property.

Assassin's Creed is a ridiculously successful gaming franchise. Now it wants to be a ridiculously successful film franchise, following in the, um, total absence of any successful game-to-movie adaptations before it.

When's it out?
Assassin's Creed (the movie) hits multiplexes on December 21, 2016. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, the latest Assassin's Creed game, comes out on October 23 - don't get the two confused, or you'll have a very disappointing trip to the cinema.
The production kicked off late on August 31, 2015, with locations including Malta, London and Spain and the shoot lasting well into October. With a very secretive set - as you'd expect, considering the intense media attention - there have been no leaked photos or paparazzi shots as yet.

Our excitement for the Assassin's Creed film has just increased.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures's CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet has compared the video game adaptation to two notable films to whet the appetite.
With Warcraft and Assassin's Creed, can Michael Fassbender and Duncan Jones redeem the video game movie?
"We have an enormous brand and we want to make a film modelled on features like Batman Begins or Blade Runner," he told French film magazine Premiere (via Den of Geek).
Barronet also revealed that the film's star Michael Fassbender will be brought into all the "key creative choices" and that while the film will have a dark tone, there will also be some "lightness".
Compared to the video game, the film will reportedly focus more on its sci-fi angle with a more even split between past and present scenes. Fassbender is playing two characters separated by time.

So far the road of video game to movie adaptations has been one littered with bodies. Ubisoft Motion Pictures hopes to change that as it enters this arena with plans for several film adaptations of its most high profile game series.
Nothing in its library is really more high profile though than their annual and ongoing "Assassin's Creed" franchise, and the hiring of talent like Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and filmmaker Justin Kurzel indicated that the studio certainly cares about the quality.
Ump's CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet recently sat down with French magazine Premiere to talk about their process for adapting their various game franchises and how it has actually taken years of careful planning to make sure it all comes together right. The big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has yet to start filming, but with an impressive cast made up of names like Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard (along with their director from Macbeth), there’s already a lot of reasons to be excited about what’s to come in the movie. More funds are becoming available for film-making but are leading to inflated budgets, according to finance experts.
“It’s a golden age for film finance,” film lawyer Lindsay Conner told delegates at the Zurich Summit on Saturday.
“This is partly because we came out of the trough of 2008-2010 when we went from 45 banks lending to only nine. We’re seeing capital available from a wide variety of places. Banks are more willing to lend and there’s no shortage of high net worth individuals willing to back films”.
“There are more and more funds out there,” continued the Entertainment and Media Practice partner. “With interest rates so low, more funds want to expose some portion of their capital to the alternative investment risk.”
However, the amount of capital is leading to inflated budgets and doesn’t guarantee good product, warned Claudia Blumhuber, CEO of financier Silver Reel Partners.
