Matt Damon has apologised for offence caused by controversial statements he made about diversity in his show Project Greenlight.
The star said that they were "part of a much broader conversation about diversity in Hollywood".
The show, which sees Damon and Ben Affleck give a filmmaker the opportunity to direct a $3 million feature film, drew attention because of comments Damon made to Dear White People producer Effie Brown, who was advising on the programme.
In a segment, Brown remarked that she was more in favour of directing team Leo Kei Angelos and Kristen Brancaccio. Producer and writer Peter Farrelly says that he likes the two, though he remarks that he doesn't think that they will work.
Brown then asks other panelists to take into consideration how they treat the lead character in the movie, who is a black prostitute.
"I just would want to urge people, whoever this director is,...
