An old enemy and a new flame entered the 126’s orbit on Tuesday’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, with neither encounter ending as expected.
Let’s start with that old enemy: Thanks to the city’s new partnership with Paragon, we saw a whole lot of Pearce (aka the handsomest man alive) this week, and while I’m always down to look at Andy Favreau’s face, Tommy was less excited to keep running into the “rat bastard” at every call.

“Maggie” has been canceled after its first season at Hulu, Variety has learned exclusively.
The single-camera comedy was ordered to series at ABC in May 2021, though parent company Disney switched it from the broadcaster to a streaming home on Hulu in January 2022 ahead of its summer premiere.
The series was based on the 2019 short film of the same name by Tim Curcio. Rebecca Rittenhouse starred in the title role, a woman navigating the world of dating as a psychic. Maggie’s gift allows her to see into the future of her friends, parents, clients and random people on the street. But when she begins to see glimpses of her own destiny after meeting an unexpected stranger, her romantic life suddenly gets a lot more complicated as she attempts to let herself fall in love while thinking she knows how it will end.

Call Me Kat is adding another new face to the mix as Andy Favreau joins the cast of Fox‘s comedy in a recurring role. Along with Favreau, previously-announced guest star Laura Bell Bundy is being upped to a recurring role, as she’ll stick around a little longer. Favreau has been cast in the role of Nick, a neighboring shop owner who will become a source of conflict for Kat (Mayim Bialik) and her cafe. (Credit: Lisa Rose/Fox) As for Bundy, as previously revealed, she’ll portray Nicole, a piano teacher who is also considered a love interest for Cheyenne Jackson‘s Max. We announced Bundy’s role earlier in March as she was cast alongside guest star Madisyn Shipman, the latter of which plays Pippa, an up-and-coming social media star who collaborates on new music with Max. IMDb TV‘s Leverage: Redemption is attaching an advisory to one of the eight episodes premiering this Friday, July 9, in the wake of the June 24 condo tower collapse in Surfside, Fla., which thus far has accounted for nearly 50 confirmed deaths.
The episode in question, the fourth of the first batch and titled “The Tower Job,” involves a New Orleans real estate developer (played by Champions‘ Andy Favreau) whose cost-cutting ways years ago resulted in the collapse of a condo tower during the construction phase, which is depicted in a visual FX “pancaking” sequence that evokes footage of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside.

By mid-May, the broadcast networks must make some tough calls as to which series will return for the 2019-20 season, and which… won’t.
As that deadline draws near, TVLine is singling out a few “bubble” shows and sizing up their prospects — based in large part on creative strides (and stumbles) and future potential, but also with a requisite nod to cold, hard numbers.
Next up is a sitcom about… Ok, the title’s kind of on the nose with this one.

NBC has canceled the Mindy Kaling-produced comedy “Champions” after one season.
The Universal Television-produced comedy, which starred “Workaholics” alum Anders Holm, Andy Favreau and J.J. Totah, will not return for a second season at the network, though producers are said to be exploring options to continue the show elsewhere.
The single-camera comedy, co-created by “The Mindy Project” duo Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy, centered on the charismatic but lazy gym owner Vince (Holm), who lives with his younger brother Michael (Favreau), a gorgeous idiot. Their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when Vince’s teenage son (Totah) is dropped off on their doorstep by his old high school fling, Priya (Kaling).

NBC has made a final decision on Champions, opting not to renew the freshman comedy for a second season.
The call came down to the wire, with the options on the cast expiring this weekend. I hear there had been discussions with Netflix about picking up the series.
The streaming giant has international rights to Champions. I’d heard that the Netflix pact stemmed from the close relationship between Champions co-creator/co-star Mindy Kaling and Netflix’s Bela Bajaria, who shepherded Kaling’s The Mindy Project at Universal TV, and that the international rights deal helped seal Champions‘ series order in May 2017.

Last year, Timeless celebrated a miracle the weekend before the upfronts after NBC uncanceled the time-travel drama that Saturday. This year, it’s a nail-biting pre-upfront weekend with no word yet on the fate of the bubble drama ahead of its Season 2 finale tonight.
At NBC’s upfront call this morning, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt was asked about the prospects of Timeless as well as midseason comedy Champions, which also has its renewal decision pending.
“We try to honor the producers, let shows run and see what they do before making a decision that is premature,” Greenblatt said, noting that Timeless’ finale is tonight and that Champions has a couple of more original episodes to air.
“We are hopeful and yet realistic as we have a lot of shows,” Greenblatt cautioned. “We are going to take a look at the shows after their run and hopefully make a quick decision on them.

Even on her third TV series, Mindy Kaling still finds herself learning on the job.
Kaling spent a better part of the last six years playing the loud and wildly outspoken Mindy Lahiri on “The Mindy Project,” who was known for her sharply outrageous and often narcissistic one-liners (A classic example: “It’s so weird being my own role model.”)
So when it came time to write “Champions,” Kaling and co-creator Charlie Grandy tried to inject Mindy Lahiri’s signature self-assurance into the show’s lead, played by Anders Holm.
The only problem? While it was delightfully charming on “The Mindy Project,” the overconfidence didn’t exactly translate well coming from a straight white male.
“Me and Charlie were like, ‘Oh, wow. Some of the things I used to get away with saying, Anders Holm would not be able to say,'” she tells Variety. “We had to do a...

Anyone that is familiar with the short story “The Monkey’s Paw” knows where the premise of this flick from Chiller Films is headed. It’s a pretty respectable premise though. Horror has always had a cautionary tale basis at its deepest foundations, and this is a timeless morality story that has been given a contemporary spin. Not the first time it’s been done for sure, but if it’s done well, I can definitely roll with it. This version takes place in New Orleans, which happens to be one of my favorite locales for a horror film anyway,...
