The Directors Guild of America has nominated Barbie’s Greta Gerwig, Oppenheimer’s Christopher Nolan, Poor Things’ Yorgos Lanthimos, Killers of the Flower Moon’s Martin Scorsese and The Holdovers’ Alexander Payne for the top feature film prize at its 76th annual DGA Awards. See the full list below.
After nominating no women for its marquee prize last year, the guild only went 1-for-5 this time, after Gerwig’s Barbie became the No. 1 movie of 2023.
Also following its 2023 script, the guild’s nominees for its First-Time Feature Film Prize include four women and one man: Manuella Martelli (Chile ’76), Noora Niasari (Shayda), A.V. Rockwell (A Thousand and One) and Celine Song (Past Lives), along with Cord Jefferson (American Fiction).

Based on a story by R.H. Grimly, co-writer/director Rob York opens his feature with the image of an autumnal neighbourhood. Amidst the everyday settings, high-school student Mary (Chelsea Jurkiewicz) works hard to earn money by making deliveries. Her night ends with a strange encounter involving her grouchy neighbour, Mr. Murphy (Cory C. Dangerfield), as he instructs that his Chinese food delivery is left on the doorstep with the containers open.
Tensions have risen at home between the student and her father, resulting in him declining to help pay for Mary’s college tuition. This leaves her to sacrifice any spare time in order to pay for her education, with her absence noticed by her best friend, Harvey (Tanner Gillman). The rising...

Coming to streaming this October, Bloody Disgusting is debuting the exclusive trailer for Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween today, a new horror movie with throwback vibes.
In Curse of Crom: The Legend of Halloween, high school teenagers accidentally unleash an ancient Irish entity on their hometown and must stop it before midnight on Halloween.
Director Rob York describes the film as “gateway horror paying homage to the style of classic 80’s movies like The Goonies, Monster Squad and Poltergeist.” He tells Bd, “We wanted to capture the atmosphere and fun of the films that traumatized us as kids. Everything was done practically, using cable and rod puppets, water tank optical effects, and lots of slime.”
Check out the movie’s official trailer below, along with the awesome retro poster. The poster art was created by fan-favorite genre artist Marc Schoenbach (Sadist Art Designs)!
Stay tuned for more info including release date information.

My first encounter with Arrowstorm Entertainment was a Kickstarter Campaign for The Crown and the Dragon, a fantasy epic which the company was making on a small budget with final production funds raised via crowdfunding. Since then, Arrowstorm has mastered the art of the indie productions by leveraging their fanbase to help them produce a number of projects including Magellan, one of their latest ventures.
Directed by Arrowstorm regular Rob York, Magellan is mostly a one-man show in which Brandon Ray Olive stars as Commander Roger Nelson, an astronaut sent on a mission to track down the source of three mysterious signals emanating from across the galaxy. It's a long and lonely mission but one the commander takes on, leaving behind his wife to await his return.
