For audiences of a certain age, it might be amusing, or maybe even disappointing, when, early in “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” the eponymous hero skins a raccoon to fashion a bandage for a serious leg wound, rather than to make a hat of the sort famously worn by Fess Parker when he played the character in enduringly popular Disney miniseries and movie spin-offs. Maybe this is writer-director Derek Estlin Purvis’ way of winking at the audience. Or, more likely, it’s his way of letting us know from the get-go that this will not be your father’s King of the Wild Frontier.
William Moseley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) is effectively earnest as the legendary frontiersman in Purvis’ leisurely paced but sporadically exciting historical drama, which focuses on the period when Crockett, then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee, became an outspoken critic of...

ABC's reality show "True Beauty" has crowned its second season winner on Monday, July 19 night. Shining with his inner beauty is Taylor Bills, a 24-year-old former Arizona League Seattle Mariners professional baseball player from Irvine, CA.
The show conceals the true objective in looking for a winner by telling the contestants that they want the beautiful ones to win while in fact they judge them by their inner beauty. This was revealed to the shocked final three which included Bills, Erika Othen and Craig Francyzk. They were given a key to the judges' spy room and were played a footage of their bad behavior in the last eight weeks.
In the discussion among the judges, Carson Kressley said Bills is with temper while Othen is catty. After the debate, the judges agreed on letting go Craig as the third-placer and Othen as the runner-up. Bills, as a winner, got to...

Taylor Bills, the 24-year-old former Arizona League Seattle Mariners professional baseball player from Irvine, CA, took home the "True Beauty" title on Monday (July 19) night.
Second place went to Erika Othen, the 25-year-old actress/model from Long Island, NY and third place went to Craig Franczyk, the 29-year-old retail manager from Winnipeg, Canada.
The ABC show pretended to look for the new face of Las Vegas, when in fact it put its outwardly beautiful contestants into situation designed to show their true colors.
The Zap2it reader poll had Erika picked as the overwhelming favorite to win, but she wasn't able to let her inner light shine bright enough. Taylor was the runner-up among Zap2it readers, while Craig only managed to eke out 5% of the vote.
What do you think, "True Beauty" fans? Did the right person win?

As another "True Beauty" season comes to a close, we're faced with a fairly lame trio of contenders.
On Monday, July 19, the show will choose a winner, the good-looking person who's proved they have the most inner beauty through hidden camera challenges that capture their true colors when it comes to acting kindly and honorably.
But we all know that the fun of the show is to see them behave badly.
Let's see who's left:
At this point it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Erika Othen, the bubbly cocktail waitress and singer from Long Island, will win since she's never been up for elimination and she tends to go above and beyond when it comes to the "compassion" challenges. She's won two challenges and only failed one challenge, when she took a peek at interview questions. She's rather annoying, but hey, one can be annoying and nice at the same time.
