Nasim Pedrad wanted to create a comedy with a Middle Eastern character that wasn’t “acting against Jack Bauer” in TBS’ Chad.
Saturday Night Live alumna Pedrad, who is starring as a 14-year-old pubescent Persian boy in the single-camera comedy, opened up the Chad panel at the Winter TCA press tour with a passionate response to a question about Iran.
Pedrad, who was born in Iran, said she didn’t think the comedic elements of the show would land any differently in light of the recent conflict between Iran and the U.S. “My heart is with the Iranian people,” she added. “I think the people of Iran are not dissimilar to us. They want freedom and peace. I’m so in awe of their resilience and strength as they continue to stand up against this regime and fight for basic human rights. I fully support them.”
She added that growing up in the U.

Saba Homayoon (Mistresses) and Paul Chahidi (This Country) are set opposite Nasim Pedrad and Jake Ryan in Pedrad’s TBS comedy pilot Chad. Alexa Loo (Rogue) and Ella Mika (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) round out the series regular cast.
Created and written by Pedrad, Chad is a single-camera Middle Eastern family comedy that follows a 14-year-old Persian boy (Pedrad) during high school as he desperately tries to fit in, cope with his mother’s dating life and reconcile his cultural identity.
Homayoon portrays Naz, Chad’s mother, an attractive, overwhelmed but loving mother of two who is just now venturing out into the dating world after her divorce — a situation that her son is finding difficult to accept. She steps up to soothe and reassure Chad after he has an unsettling encounter with an older girl from his school.

Eighth Grade standout Jake Ryan is set as a lead opposite Nasim Pedrad in TBS comedy pilot Chad.
Created and written by Pedrad, Chad is a single-camera Middle-Eastern family comedy that follows a 14-year-old Persian boy, played by Pedrad, during high school as he desperately tries to fit in, cope with his mother’s dating life, and reconcile his cultural identity.
Ryan will play Peter, Chad’s (Pedrad) best friend, a sweet nerd who has nothing to prove and is “unbothered that puberty is destroying him.” Peter has no particular angst about attending his first day at high school. He is content with not being popular and is ready to have a great time, unlike the neurotic Chad.
Pedrad is exec producing and co-showrunning with Hayes Davenport. 3 Arts’ Oly Obst and Rob Rosell also serve as executive producers.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) are set to help develop a new comedy series at NBC as executive producers. The series is a workplace comedy called Business as Usual and it’s described as a comedy about “everyday employees at a company in crisis, trying to keep their jobs and maintain their relationships as their workplace goes insane.”
According to Variety, the project generated significant interest from several networks and many of them offering to buy it in the room before it ultimately ended up landing at NBC.
The project is set up to be produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, and what’s interesting about that is that fact that the concept for the series is very similar to what is going on at Fox at the moment as they are being purchased by Disney.
Obviously, the series isn’t about what is happening at Fox,...

Eastbound and Down Season 4, Episode 5 “Chapter 26″
Written by Hayes Davenport, Jody Hill & Danny McBride
Directed by Jody Hill
Airs Sunday nights at 10pm Et on HBO
As season four carries on, the parallels between Eastbound and Down and Breaking Bad could not be more obvious: two white men doing what they do best for the sake of cash and glory, resisting the middle-class suburban life they feel is holding them back. Both men seek infamy that can’t be measured by cash or possessions (even though they quite enjoy having those) – and ultimately, that id is what undoes them, their ignorance towards the importance of family playing a huge role in their downfall (what’s the old cliche? “you can’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone”?). In the end, Kenny may end up with a fate more aligned with his buddy Shane than with Walter White, but...
