*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Sony Pictures. Director: David Hackl. Writers: Jack Reher and Guy Moshe. Cast: James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Piper Perabo, Scott Glenn and Billy Bob Thornton. “When a grizzly gets angry, they don't give a shit whether you're a logger or a treehugger. All of you taste the same.” David Hackl (Saw V) and his all-star cast take you deep into Alaska's picturesque woods in search of a killer bear in Into The Grizzly Maze. The film, which was actually shot in Vancouver, is an intense thriller with a clear moral agenda—to raise awareness about our destructive role in environmental degradation. While the film's message is strong, it's not too heavy-handed in its delivery, still allowing for an action-packed “natural horror”adventure. Though unnecessary, the celebrity cast makes for a more enjoyable watch; it's fun to see big name actors...

Severed limbs, evil poachers, and a gigantic killer grizzly bear – oh my! That’s exactly what Saw V director David Hackl aims to deliver in his new animalistic thriller, Into The Grizzly Maze, and he certainly doesn’t fail. The film wastes little time introducing viewers to a massive, angry bear who doesn’t take kindly to illegal hunters invading its home turf, so he/she decides to get revenge through his/her own series of grotesque murders. For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction, but when you screw with Mother Nature, that reaction is usually a Hell of a lot worse than normal. Mess with the bull, you get the horns – or in this case, you get the bear claws.

If you listen closely, you can almost hear the elevator pitch on this one. It’s like Jaws, right? But, it’s in the forest – with a giant bear, guys with guns, and a token ballsy blonde to keep the ladies happy. Sure, it sounds like Into The Grizzly Maze basically writes itself, but the most cursory of looks at the newly released trailer suggests that this might actually have a very healthy B-movie pulse to it. What else could account for the presence of the legendary Scott Glenn, and Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton?

Saw V director, David Hackl, returns to horror with Grizzly. Also known as Endangered and Red Machine, this title involves a grizzly bear on a rampage and two brothers lost in the Alaskan wilderness. Grizzly stars: James Marsden, Piper Perabo, Billy Bob Thornton and Thomas Jane. A trailer for this feature has recently been released. The story begins with several disappearances. Loggers and rangers make great bear food, but this grizzly bear has his sights on two brothers. Blood streaks and claw marks will mar many of the characters, before this 500 lb beast is overcome. The trailer for Grizzly is full of gore. Actor Billy Bob Thornton can be seen marked by this great beast. Other minor characters are reduced to bloody pools and Grizzly looks like a film for gorehounds. The official trailer for the film is below. Release Date: 2014. Director: David Hackl. Writers: Guy Moshe and J.R. Reher.

The Wrap report that musician/writer Alan Robert's (Killogy) latest book The Shunned One is already in the process of being adapted for the big screen. The comic itself won't be with us until early 2015, but Grizzly and Corrosion writer Jack Reher is already at work on the movie script. Robert and his Wasted Talent Entertainment label will co-produce alongside the Coalition Group, whose sister firm Radical Studios produced the likes of Oblivion and Brett Ratner's upcoming take on Hercules starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. According to the synopsis, The Shunned One "centers on an angel of death who goes rogue after refusing to take innocent human lives. His actions alter balance in the universe, causing a chain reaction of unforeseen disasters. As a result, a pack of vengeful death angels are sent down to hunt him. He must hide amongst the humans while trying to undo the damage he's done.

It was during last year's Comic-Con that we first told you about the partnership between Life of Agony's Alan Robert and Idw which resulted in the graphic novel The Shunned One. Today we learned that it's being adapted for the screen.
Jack Reher is the man who is behind the adaptation. The book focuses on an Angel of Death who goes rogue after being ordered to take several innocent lives. This guilt-ridden death angel begins to carry out his own judgment on humans based on their actions instead of whether their names appear on the preordained Death List.
The Angel’s unsanctioned murders instantly alter the balance within the universe and trigger a string of unforeseen disasters that spiral out of control. Variety is reporting that The Ring producer Mike Macari and Affirmative Entertainment’s Nicholas Bogner have optioned Jon Bassoff’s novel Corrosion and tapped Jack Reher to adapt the tome. We first told you about this back in September, but today it's official.
Corrosion is currently the number one selling noir novel on Amazon and revolves around a battle-scarred soldier making his way through the backwater towns of Colorado to get back to a woman, who might be his loved one or his next victim — or both. It is in the vein of Primal Fear, Se7en, and No Country for Old Men.
Production is set to start later this summer.

Talk about a long road to the screen. The last time we heard anything about Sandor Stern's 1988 horror flick Pin was in early 2011. Things happen, ya know, but finally there's a bit of movement to report on.
The remake of Pin is finally getting going after years of woes pertaining to the rights. Jack Reher adapted it, and Nicholas Bogner (Corrosion) is on board to produce. The search for a director has ended and will be announced shortly. From what we hear, he's a fan favorite and consistently directs horror films that audiences like.
More on that when we get it!
Synopsis
Meet Pin, a harmless mute and lifeless fantasy in little Leon's mind - a fantasy that initially took form when Leon's father imparted life lessons to him through the use of an anatomical dummy. At first a source of amusement and comfort, Pin demonically evolves into the object of Leon's mad fixation.

It's been awhile since last we spoke about the upcoming flick Wet House, but today news broke of a new director taking the helm, which was originally supposed to belong to star Thomas Jane.
Deadline is reporting that South African writer-director Mukunda Michael Dewil has signed on to helm Wet House for Zero Gravity Entertainment. The elevated psychological thriller from scribe Jack Reher revolves around a psychologist who becomes entangled with the mysterious resident of a wet house, whose apparent psychic abilities help her aid the police in solving a string of grisly, bath salt-fueled massacres.
“I like the idea that everything is layered with this atmosphere of unnamed trepidation — nothing can be trusted at face value, and that kind of foreboding really gives me a lot to work with when creating the world of this story,” Dewil said. Mark Holder and Christine Holder are producing and financing for Zero Gravity.

Beth McCarthy-Miller ("Tammy," "Mail Order Groom") has come onboard to helm the comedy "Mean Moms" at New Line Cinema. The film is based on an advice book by Rosalind Wiseman, the same author behind the advice book that inspired Tina Fey's "Mean Girls".
The story follows a happily married mother of two who moves from small town America to the high-class suburbs and is faced with confronting the cutthroat world of competitive parenting.
Meanwhile, Mukunda Michael Dewill ("Vehicle 19") has come onboard to direct the thriller "Wet House" for Zero Gravity. Jack Reher penned the script.

With The Twilight Saga mercifully over and done (at least for now), it's interesting to see which directions its former stars will take. Next up to dip his toe into the horror-themed waters is one of the younger wolves in the pack, BooBoo Stewart, in his new film Devil's Door.
Directed by Elias Matar (Ashes) and produced by Jack Reher (writer - Red Machine, Wet House), Devil's Door stars the aforementioned and pictured Stewart along with Aldo Gonzales ("Anger Management," "Sons of Anarchy"), the lovely Barbara Nedeljakova (Hostel), and Nicholas Turturro ("Blue Bloods," Takers, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry).
Devil's Door is described as "an elevated psychological thriller in the vein of a hyper-stylized and grittier version of Death Wish set against the graffiti painted streets of Los Angeles."

Thomas Jane will direct and star in a new horror-thriller titled The Wet House.
The film is set in an institute where drug addicts beyond recovery go to die, and is loosely based on Charles Dickens's ghost story The Signal-Man, Bloody Disgusting reports.
Dickens's book tells the story of a railway worker who is haunted by a spectre that informs him of train crashes before they happen.
Jack Reher provided a screenplay for the movie, which is described as being tonally similar to the likes of Jacob's Ladder, Poltergeist and Secret Window.
Jane, best known for starring in The Punisher and Stephen King adaptation The Mist, made his directorial debut on animated feature Jonni Nitro in 2000 and helmed Dark Country in 2009.
The Wet House is yet to be given a release date.

Former Punisher and Mist-battler Thomas Jane had a rough ride with the studio bods on his last directorial effort Dark Country. He publicly complained about the final cut and the lack of a theatrical release, but the experience doesn't seem to have burned him too badly, since he's about to head back behind the camera for The Wet House, in which he'll also star. The title refers to an establishment that's kind of the polar opposite of a rehab facility: a wet house is apparently a place where substance abusers and addicts go to die, when their afflictions place them beyond recovery. It's a new one on us, but writer Jack Reher seems confident that it's a thing. The film's story involves a doctor at the facility - presumably Jane's character - enduring a haunting and slowly losing his mind.Reher's screenplay is loosely based on, of all things, a short story by Charles Dickens.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Jane is reteaming with screenwriter Jack Reher on the flick. "[Wet Houses are] places that are popping up all over the United States. Kind of creepy. People go there by their own admission when they give up on life and their addictions. By means of drinking or drugs, late-stage users go to a Wet House when all hope is lost. Then they die,” explains Reher.
Synopsis:
This elevated genre supernatural thriller is loosely based on Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story “The Signal-Man.” A doctor treats a patient who checks in there after a horrific car accident and meets another resident who predicts tragic things that haven’t happened yet.

Star Thomas Jane took to his official blog where he shared a behind-the-scenes look at Saw V director David Hackl's Red Machine that depicts The Mist star standing off against an enormous bear! "How I spent my b-day!" jokes the actor. James Marsden, Piper Perabo, Billy Bob Thornton, Scott Glenn, Adam Beach, Michaela McManus and Kelly Curran also star in Indomitable Entertainment and Paul Schiff Productions' flick that "centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear -- the Red Machine." Rick Cleveland and J.R. Reher wrote Red Machine, which Tai Duncan, Dominic Ianno, Stuart Pollack, Hadeel Reda, Paul Schiff, and David Valleau will produce. Shooting is taking place in Vancouver.

It was announced just a few weeks ago that James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton were leading David Hackl‘s latest project, Red Machine; and now, Variety reports that Scott Glenn, Adam Beach, Michaela McManus and Kelly Curran have rounded out the cast for the thriller.
The script is written by J.R. Reher and “centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear — the Red Machine.” Thorton plays a “legendary bear expert and hunter”, who will inevitability save the terrified campers (I have a feeling that this part was somehow made for him).

[1] Could romcom queen Kate Hudson be branching out at last? Earlier this week, she signed on for her first animated feature in DreamWorks' Me & My Shadow, and she's now gunning for action stardom with Everly. Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom) will direct from a 2010 Black List script by Yale Hannon. Hudson will play a woman trapped in her apartment as she fends off attacks from assassins hired by her ex, a ruthless mob boss. Hudson is best known for her romantic comedy roles, like last year's Little Bit of Heaven and Something Borrowed, but her upcoming slate shows a little more variety. In addition to Me & My Shadow and Everly, she also has Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist due out next year. After the jump, Piper Perabo fights a bear and Common does magic. David Hackl's testosterone-heavy man vs. bear movie Red Machine has just cast its first female lead in Piper Perabo.

The big bear will have a few more picking for dinner as Piper Perabo will star opposite Billy Bob Thorton, James Marsden and Thomas Jane in director David Hackls thriller Red Machine, reports Deadline. The star of The Prestige and Looper will play a deaf photographer who is engaged to Beckett (Jane), whom she met during the Iraq War. The story revolves around two estranged brothers (Jane, Marsden) and their girlfriends (Perabo and an actress yet to be cast) who go camping in the Alaskan wilderness. An erratic grizzly relentlessly stalks the two couples, who are forced to rely on their own senses and skills to survive. Rick Cleveland and J.R. Reher wrote Red Machine, which Tai Duncan, Dominic Ianno, Stuart Pollack, Hadeel Reda, Paul Schiff, and David Valleau will produce. Shooting begins this month in Vancouver.

Liam Neeson may have his hands full taking on the harsh winter cold and a pack of ravenous wolves in The Grey next week, but a pack of actos has just joined a cast of a movie, where a bear will be the force of contention. A movie titled Red Machine is about to add a few components in the form of James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton. According to Variety, the three actors will appear in David Hackl’s movie about two brothers who will attempt to put an end to their sibling rivalry by taking a bonding camping trip. Jane and Marsden are tapped to play as the brothers. However the brothers’ bond are put to the test when they face a vicious bear called “The Red Machine.” As you can guess the bear got his name for his capacity to kill at will.

Haven't these guys seen "The Edge?" Bears eat people!
Regardless of the danger, James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton are set to prove their mettle as they've signed on to star in the wilderness survival thriller, "Red Machine," according to Variety.
"Red Machine" tells the tale of two estranged brothers (Marsden and Jane) who reconcile while on a camping trip with their respective girlfriends; their great reconciliation in the great outdoors is interrupted when a giant grizzly bear known as 'The Red Machine' begins stalking them. Thornton is set to channel Robert Shaw in "Jaws" as a legendary bear expert and hunter who probably gets killed.
"Red Machine" will be directed by David Hackl, the man who took over the "Saw" franchise from Darren Lynn Bousman with the fifth installment, with newcomer J.R. Reher providing the script.
After James Marsden took on drunken rampaging rednecks in "Straw Dogs,...

James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton have all been cast in Red Machine, a new wilderness thriller from director David Hackl (Saw V) and first time screenwriter J.R. Reher. According to Variety, the film centers around two at-odds brothers (Jane and Marsden) who attempt to mend fences over a camping trip. Yet, instead of putting things back together, they're literally torn apart by a relentless grizzly bear nicknamed "Red Machine." I'm assuming he got the nickname from his reddish brown fur and knack for killing as opposed to just destroying Mountain Dew Code Red vending machines. More below! Rounding out the cast is Billy Bob Thornton as as, yep, you guessed it, a legendary bear expert and hunter tracking Red Machine. It's so stereotypical of his rural, backwoods kind of characters, it's awesome, and I just can't even bear it! Not much else is known about the film...

Back in October of 2010 we reported that Saw V director David Hackl had been lined up to direct Jack Reher's spec script Red Machine. We're now finally hearing some more concrete news on the project. Per Variety, "Fully financed pic centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear -- the Red Machine. Thornton will play a legendary bear expert and hunter." While I haven't seen Saw V, and I'm not really the biggest fan of that franchise's aesthetic, this movie sounds like it could actually be ridiculously fun! I'm kind of excited...

[1] Liam Neeson may need nothing more than broken minibar bottles [2] to face off against a wild wolf in The Grey, but I doubt even he could go hand-to-hand with a 700-pound grizzly bear all by himself. No, to battle a creature that big, you'd need at least three people -- like, say, James Marsden, Thomas Jane, and Billy Bob Thornton. The three actors are now set to star in a man vs. thriller titled Red Machine, from Saw V director David Hackl. More details after the jump. Written by J.R. Reher, the script revolves around two estranged brothers (Marsden and Jane) who make amends in the remote wilderness with their respective girlfriends. However, their freshly repaired bond is threatened when they're attacked and stalked by a grizzly bear nicknamed the Red Machine. Thornton will star as a "legendary bear expert and hunter" who presumably helps the boys out of their predicament.

For my money, no combination in modern cinema says “lionhearted” more than a well-executed man vs. nature story led by a strong cast that could probably beat you up. So, if Red Machine works out, we’re in for something good. Variety tells us that James Marsden, Billy Bob Thornton, Thomas Jane, and a grizzly bear have all signed on for the thriller, which will be directed by Saw V‘s David Hackl and scripted by J.R. Reher.
The story contained within revolves around “two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends.” But, soon enough, “things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear — the Red Machine.” It’s up to Thornton‘s character, a “legendary bear expert and hunter” (!), to save them from this beast of nature. Indomitable Entertainment and Paul Schiff Productions will produce the film,...

Good news for those of you out there familiar with Sandor Stern's 1988 horror flick Pin! It looks as if there's a remake on the way, but fret not, this has Mr. Stern sitting pretty once again in the director's chair!
According to Bloody Disgusting Stern will be returning to direct and co-write, alongside Jack Reher (writer of the forthcoming Red Machine and Edge of the Unknown), a redo of the super creepy doll movie.
Synopsis
Meet Pin, a harmless, mute and lifeless fantasy in little Leon's mind - a fantasy that initially took form when Leon's father imparted life lessons to him through the use of anatomical dummy. At first a source of amusement and comfort, Pin demonically evolves into the object of Leon's mad fixation. Soon, Leon and Pin quietly but thoroughly eliminate anyone who intrudes into their private world.

A few months back a bunch of friends and myself discussed how a remake to Sandor Stern's 1988 horror flick Pin would be crazy awesome, so it comes as no shock that one is currently in development. Bloody Disgusting has exclusively confirmed that Stern will be returning to direct and co-write, alongside Jack Reher (writer of the forthcoming Red Machine and Edge of the Unknown), a redo of the creepy doll movie. What's different is that the duo will be scripting a movie based on Andrew Neiderman's novel of the same name. Neiderman is also known for writing the classic "The Devil's Advocate". Stern wrote the original The Amityville Horror.

Saw V director David Hackl looks for horror redemption as he'll be getting behind the camera for Jack Reher's spec script Red Machine, a new survival horror that will do for camping what Jaws did for swimming. The story follows two estranged brothers who go on a camping trip and are continuously attacked by an erratic bear that has lost its fear of humans. Bloody Disgusting got an exclusive first look at the blood red sales art! Dig on it below. Hackl served as the production designer on the second, third and fourth Saw movies. He also worked as the second unit director on Saw III, Saw IV and Repo! The Genetic Opera. Hackl is also attached to direct an adaptation of Vince Churchill's novel The Butcher Bride, which is currently in development, and was also written by Reher.
