Nick Kyrgios has slammed Boris Becker in light of his recent eyebrow-raising comments about Carlos Alcaraz's development.
The German tennis great claimed on a Eurosport Germany tennis podcast that other players have become accustomed to what they needed to do to play the young Spaniard. Alcaraz has lost eight times since Wimbledon, which is a stark contrast to the first half of the season when he lost four matches.
The time period after Wimbledon was evidence that Alcaraz was not developing, according to Becker. During his "slump," Alcaraz lost three successive matches for the first time since March 2021, with the most devastating of those coming in Paris-Bercy.
While Alcaraz's productivity waned after Wimbledon - with no titles to show for his effort - it is still quite a preposterous claim by Becker. Alcaraz still forged some very strong results in the second half of the season. He came within...

Angelique Kerber is returning to tennis in January, and Boris Becker is excited to see whether Kerber can do some damage.
Angelique Kerber was a fantastic tennis player at her peak. She was the last German number one on the Wta Tour, which Becker mentioned in his talk with Eurosport.
The former legendary player is excited to see what damage she can do after her return. The absence was due to a pregnancy, of course, a pregnancy that went well.
Soon after giving birth, Kerber returned to practice, wanting to prove herself again. While not the youngest anymore, she's certain that she has what it takes to emulate some of the things other mothers like Elina Svitolina and compatriot Tatjana Maria were able to do.
Boris Becker is excited to see it, but he understands that it won't be easy. It will take some time to get into the swing of things fully,...

Boris Becker took over as the coach of Holger Rune recently, and according to the former Atp player, attitude was the issue.
Rune has been a fabulous tennis player for a while now. He had an incredibly strong first half of the year but then struggled to find any kind of form over the summer.
Some changes needed to be made, and Rune hired Becker as his coach, with improvement following not long after. The Dane ultimately finished the year on a high note, which should give him confidence heading into next year, which is going to be a huge one.
The efforts by Becker were praised by Rune as the duo agreed to continue next year as well. In a recent chat with Eurosport, Becker spoke about his work with Rune, pinpointing attitude as the issue that held Rune back over the summer.

According to Boris Becker, other players have caught up to Carlos Alcaraz, who sees the dip in form as a result of him simply not evolving at the pace of other players.
It's a very interesting take by Becker, who is obviously a very smart tennis mind. We've seen his impact on the player of Holger Rune as he swiftly fixed some of the issues that plagued the Danish rising star for months.
Alcaraz had a tremendous rise last year, with every match he played seemingly featuring a much better player than he had been in the previous round. The rise just kept going and going, and it never really stopped. Or did it?
The grass season was probably the last time Alcaraz really took a huge step. He won Wimbledon, which was a tremendous achievement, but since then, not much has happened.
We've seen Alexander Zverev step up. Daniil Medvedev found his form again.

Alexander Zverev had a really fascinating season in 2023, and Boris Becker thinks he doesn't get enough respect.
Alexander Zverev is one of those players most people know is really good, but very few people actually know how good he is. Part of that is his own doing with some inconsistent results, but part of it is his injury.
He was peaking at a really high-level last year when he broke his ankle, and it derailed him quite a bit. The comeback this year was very shaky at the start, but then he found his level again and played very well to finish the year.
It was somewhat fascinating to see him finish so strongly and find himself at the 2023 Atp Finals in Turin but he did. It's worthy of respect, one that he doesn't get, according to Becker.
Of course, he, as a German, would know Zverev better than most.

Novak Djokovic's former coach Boris Becker believes the Serbian star has earned the right to be placed in the same category as the best sportsmen in the world.
Djokovic, 36, was in sparkling form throughout 2023, playing in just 12 Atp events and winning seven titles. Remarkably, he played in all four Grand Slam finals, winning three and finishing a runner-up in the one he missed out on the top prize.
He is the only man in tennis history to win three of the four Grand Slams in the same season on four occasions. Additionally, Djokovic topped the prize money charts this season, amassing over $15 million.
Becker, who coached Djokovic to six Grand Slam wins between 2014 and 2016, called the World No. 1's Grand Slam feat in 2023 "out of this world", having been so close to a calendar-year Grand Slam at 36. In an episode of Eurosport Gemany's tennis podcast, he labeled him as...

Holger Rune hired Boris Becker as coach recently, and they'll continue next year, and Alexander Zverev gave his verdict on the pairing.
It was a rather strange pairing because nobody really saw it coming. Becker didn't have any tennis appointment at the time, so he was available, but he hasn't been in coaching for a while, so a sudden return seemed unlikely.
It looked even less likely to be with Rune, who parted with Patrick Mouratoglou pretty recently. Everybody just assumed that he would go back to his old coach, but no, he actually threw a curveball going with Becker.
It wasn't a bad decision as he started to play better, something he said was due to Becker. Some have already pointed out how they are a pretty good match, and Zverev certainly thinks it's a pairing that can work.

“Show me the money” was the memorable battle cry in Jerry Maguire, the 1996 movie about a sports agent who must “deliver” for his manic client.
Matt Damon, the negotiator at the center of his and Ben Affleck’s new movie, delivers big time for his client, and so does the film. Air is an angry, trash-talking movie that somehow, in its final minutes, switches into a “feel good” epic.
In Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise survives both a love affair and a crisis of conscience. Air is about neither love nor conscience, but the $90 million movie — Amazon reportedly paid $120 million for the rights and package — carries a daunting bundle of expectations about the future of distribution (its producers include Peter Guber and David Ellison).
Its box office numbers for the opening week were auspicious but inevitably did not fully match those expectations. “There’s too much riding on every new theatrical release,...

Boris Becker revealed that Novak Djokovic gets motivated when the crowd supports his opponent more than him.
The German used to coach Djokovic for a time and he knows him pretty well. The Serb considers him a friend and called him and spoke in his favour during his trial last year that sent him to prison for a few months. Djokovic being emotional is nothing new, we've seen it numerous times but Becker provided more insight into his personality.
Novak is very emotional. He always gets temperamental when the crowd supports the other guy. And he's using that to show with his fingers off into the crowd that you have woken me up now. I'm going to beat this guy.
Sometimes it works out in the favour of Djokovic because fur much of his career he wasn't the crowd favourite. There are very few places where he would get more...

Three-time Wimbledon Champion Boris Becker has opened up about his time in prison in the U.K.
“Whoever says that prison life isn’t hard and isn’t difficult, I think is lying,” Becker told the BBC, reflecting on the eight months he has served of the two-and-a-half-year-long sentence he received for hiding £2.5 million worth of assets and loans in a bankruptcy fraud case.
“It was a very brutal … a very, very different experience to what you see in the movies, what you’ve heard from stories,” the six-time Grand Slam singles champion recalled, after previously having referred to his imprisonment as the “worst time of his life.”
Spending the majority of his sentence at Huntercombe Prison in Oxfordshire, Becker claims to have been “surrounded by murderers, by drug dealers, by rapists, by people smugglers, by dangerous criminals.” “You fight every day for survival. Boris Becker enjoys the tennis Carlos Alcaraz plays but he warned against putting too much hype into what he's doing.
Carlos Alcaraz is an amazing tennis player who already achieved quite a lot in the tennis world. The Spaniard is a Grand Slam champion, he was number one and is only in the early stages of his career. The hype train is working overtime but Becker was quick to caution against proclaiming him on the level of legendary players such as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
First of all, it’s a very difficult mantle to take over. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic weren’t only tennis heroes, they are sporting heroes. They are cultural icons.
Becker doesn't think tennis will ever be a problem for Alcaraz as he's just the full package in that regard. He does wonder how he'll deal with everything that goes along with all...
