Walt Longmire is a stoic man. This much was evident from almost the moment we met Robert Taylor's sheriff on last Sunday's Longmire premiere.
But viewers saw the character at his most vulnerable when interacting with daughter Cady, whose portrayer told me over the phone that this relationship was a major "pull" for her to take on the role.
"I love a good father/daughter relationship because I'm close to my dad," the actress said. "Walt is pretty quiet and removed, but anything he really cares about will make him seem more human on the show. Cady is that human, emotional tie for him."
But while her father will be the through-line for a majority of Freeman's scenes, the former Smallville star and recurring Vampire Diaries player acknowledges we'll get to know Cady outside of her ties to her dad, as well.
"She does have a romance, which could be controversial,...

One wouldn't think that the least populated county in the nation's least populated state would be fertile ground for a weekly crime drama. But "Longmire," A&E Network's engrossing new ode to frontier justice, uses its sparse setting to great effect while not skimping out on the whodunits.
Based on Craig Johnson's popular Walt Longmire mystery novels, "Longmire," premiering Sunday, June 3, finds the titular sheriff of Wyoming's Absaroka County in a truly dark place. He's still grieving the loss of his wife and has pretty much checked out emotionally, not really being present for his job and largely avoiding his grown daughter, Cady (Cassidy Freeman). He goes through the motions, despite the efforts of longtime friend Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips) to break him out of his funk. The situation is not helped when Walt learns one of his deputies -- the fabulously named Branch Connally (Bailey Chase...

Katee Sackhoff, best known as hotshot pilot Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in Battlestar Galactica, has traded the final frontier for the plains and mountains of rural Wyoming. In A&E’s new TV series Longmire, Sackhoff delves into the Western genre as deputy Victoria “Vic” Moretti.
Adapted from a book series by Craig Johnson, Longmire centers on Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), sheriff in the fictional Absaroka County. Vic is the new girl in town, adjusting to a transition from her detective job in Philadelphia.

Chicago – Taking a modern day cowboy character from an Elmore Leonard novel and giving him his own show turned out to be a smart move for FX when they green-lit “Justified,” so one can hardly blame A&E for attempting a similar transition with Craig Johnson’s “Longmire” mystery novels, now a weekly series. Despite the obvious comparison with the Emmy-winning FX hit, that shouldn’t be taken as a criticism since this show completely stands on its own. It’s smart, fun, engaging, and remarkably well-written & performed.

Cassidy Freeman is moving on to a new series, but she still can see "Smallville" in her rear-view mirror.
Formerly the devious Tess Mercer on the young-Superman saga that lasted a decade, the actress plays it much more down-to-earth as the attorney daughter of the title sheriff (Australian actor Robert Taylor) in "Longmire," A&E's modern Western based on Craig Johnson's novels that premieres Sunday (June 3). Right after that, though, Freeman will step back into her immediate past.
Along with John Glover, alias "Smalllville's" Lionel Luthor, and Gerard Christopher -- the second title star of the syndicated "The Adventures of Superboy" -- she'ill be a guest at an annual Superman Celebration in Illinois on Saturday, June 9. She admits that for her, a big lure of the event is the name of its location: Metropolis.

There’s an old sheriff in town, and his name is Walt Longmire. Veteran character actor Robert Taylor — maybe you’d recognize him better wearing the suit and sunglasses he did in The Matrix; then again, maybe not — takes the lead in an absorbing adaptation of Craig Johnson’s acclaimed mystery series. Set on the rugged, unforgiving Wyoming frontier, Longmire follows the middle-aged, recently widowed sheriff of Absaroka County as he seeks to work through his pain and revitalize his life and career. Helping him along are a big-city transplant deputy, Vic (Katee Sackhoff), and his longtime friend Henry Standing Bear [...]...

“Justified” minus the Dixie mafia swagger? Not quite, though close, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that when you heard about A&E’s new drama “Longmire”, which stars Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the grizzled Sheriff of a Wyoming County called Absaroka that looks to have more sheep than it does people. Based on the series of novels by Craig Johnson, the “Longmire” pilot opens with a murder in the snowy mountains, and from there, introduces us to its cast of characters and life in a wide open county. Thanks to the holstered gun, boots, and cowboy hat, Walt Longmire brings to mind “Justified’s” Raylan Givens. (By the way, without the cowboy hat Taylor kinda looks like a disheveled Will Ferrell.) But Longmire is much older, more seasoned, and not quite as easy to fly off the handle. In fact, it takes a lot to rile up ol Longmire.

Walt Longmire is on his way to A&E.
Portrayed by Robert Taylor, this Wyoming sheriff is dealing with the recent death of his wife, along with the crimes and mysteries surrounding him in Absaroka County.
He's joined on the upcoming A&E series - which premieres on June 3 and is based on novels by Craig Johnson - by Katee Sackhoff in the role of a new deputy, and Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear, a close friend and confidant.
Do you get the same Justified vibe from the first extended trailer as we do? Watch now and decide if you'll give Longmire a change.

A&E guns for share of Justified fan base
Or at least, that’s what I think they’re doing.
Since it won’t be possible to spend a lot of time discussing the new Longmire TV series before making a comparison to Justified, we’ll just get that on the table right away. There isn’t much that Longmire will likely have over Justified in terms of sheer quality. Sheriff Walt Longmire is the basis for the bulk of author Craig Johnson’s body of work, while Raylan Givens is just another fractal from the badass factory in Elmore Leonard’s head.
Advantage: Justified.
Johnson is an accomplished author, and I’m not here to say otherwise. The million-dollar question is whether or not his work will serve as a fountain of compelling source material for a dynamic TV series. Here’s the first hint we have at an answer:

A&E has shown it has a soft spot for pilots starring Katee Sackhoff and a former Agent from The Matrix. After the network decided not to pick up Big Mike last month, it looked a sure thing Longmire would be picked up instead. The show will air its pilot along with nine newly ordered episodes. Longmire is based on the Walt Longmire Mystery novels written by Craig Johnson. Robert Taylor (he was one of the few Matrix Agents not played by Hugo Weaving) plays the man the show and novels are named after, Walt Longmire. He’s the dedicated and unwavering sheriff of Absaroka County. Recently widowed, he hides his pain behind his charisma and dry wit.

Bombshell Cassidy Freeman is lending her good looks to the new season of CSI: NY, but don’t worry, she’s not playing a victim. We can ogle her while she walks and talks! TVLine reports that Miss Freeman’s character will have ties to the very first murder investigation of the eighth season. In the premiere she will play a bartender who’s male co-worker is killed during a botched robbery attempt. I’ll call it right now. She did it! That’s how it works right? It’s the person you’d least suspect who’s the bad guy in any given episode of CSI, yeah? Even if she witnessed the murder I’ll still say it’s her. Somehow, someway she’s guilty.
I can’t say I’m excited at all by this news. Nothing against Freeman, she’s awesome, but I have no patience for CSI.
