For the second year in a row, Taylor Swift has swept the Gold Derby Music Awards, but not in every category. She was upset by Lana Del Rey for Album of the Year. Scroll down for our complete list of winners, and watch our video presentation of the winners above.
More than 5,000 registered Gold Derby users voted in these awards, which honored the best music from the eligibility period of September 2020 through September 2021, the same as the Grammys’ calendar. And they awarded Swift six times out of her seven nominations. She won repeat prizes for Artist of the Year, Record of the Year (“Willow”), Song of the Year (“Willow”), and Best Pop Artist. She also claimed Best Pop Album (“Evermore”) and Best Music Video (“Willow”). That gives her 11 total wins over just two years of the GDMAs.

Earlier this week, CBS announced that former One Direction member — and latest addition to the Christopher Nolan Players — Harry Styles is slated for a week-long residency on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” For four consecutive nights, starting on May 15, Styles will serve as the resident musical artist.
With that “Dunkirk” appearance on the horizon and a solo music career still in its early stages, you could do worse than Styles when picking someone to hand the keys to an entire week’s worth of late night. And having been through the process of a breakneck sketch show schedule, he’ll probably be a capable comedy sidekick for Corden.
But what if this residency is a smashing success? Which other bands and artists would be ripe for tenures of their own on the other major daily late-night shows?
Jon Batiste and Stay Human hold down the fort for “The Late Show.

There’s no simple roadmap for how a conglomerate of SFX Entertainment’s size goes through chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, and trivial details were bound to fall by the wayside. In the most recent court documents that have surfaced as a result of the company’s legal proceedings, partial lineup details for three of its festivals have made their rounds on social media.
To be specific, some of the headliners for Electric Zoo, Spring Awakening and Mamby On The Beach have been revealed to the public. Artists as big as deadmau5, Hardwell, Claude VonStroke and Tchami have found their way onto the entertainment rosters for the former two events, with the likes of Hannah Wants, Chromeo and Chet Faker on the last.

In their new documentary Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton, producer-director Jeff Broadway and writer-editor Rob Bralver shine a spotlight on a lesser-known hub of the hip-hop underground: L.A.'s Stones Throw Records. “Stones Throw has been an incubator and a talent discovery entity for almost twenty years now,” says Bralver. "It’s had a massive influence on mainstream pop culture, without a lot of people realizing it."Founded by Chris Manak, a.k.a. DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, in 1996, the avant-garde hip-hop-and-more label has been a trailblazer in the underground music scene for almost two decades. Spearheaded by flagship artists Madlib, J. Dilla, and Mf Doom, Stones Throw garnered a cult following for its willingness to play with genre and to take a chance on experimental, left-of-center artists (recent success stories include Aloe Blacc and Mayer Hawthorne).“They’re an example of a business that is driven entirely by the curator’s tastes,...

An hour with music producer Pharrell Williams at Jungle City Studios, up above the High Line and a wide array of new construction, feels like a minor form of time travel: He can connect an mp3 player to the console, turn the monitors up to jaw-rattling volumes, and play you pop music from the near future. These are the tracks he’s written for (or co-written with) various singers, beats he’s made for various rappers, a selection of sounds he’s crafted that could become radio fodder over the coming months. When we meet, he’s making adjustments to “Atm Jam,” a track for Azealia Banks’s upcoming album, and there’s plenty more of his work to follow. A tough-as-nails Jennifer Hudson song with a Rick James feel. A not-dissimilar piece for Miley Cyrus. A cut for Mayer Hawthorne that would sound like seventies smooth-rock kings Steely Dan...

It's funny that just two months ago we didn't know who the Tennessee Kids were. Then Justin Timberlake showed up at the Grammys and there they were, having a ball, like we've actually been waiting seven years to see them play music. They're obviously musicians for hire, but they don't act like it. Some say Jt is aping Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae, Mayer Hawthorne, or Sharon Jones, and maybe he is (though they're all actually aping sixties/seventies soul acts, so who cares), but the Tennessee Kids are just better — more enthusiastic to a degree that suggests they really care about the music or get paid insanely well. Either way, the result is an infectious excitement. Screw Jt and Jay-z, we can't wait to see them tour stadiums together. They sing along, dance, constantly mug to the camera: Oh, how we love them. And there is no better tribute than...

Washington — Walk into any Sweetgreen restaurant and alongside your locally grown mesclun topped with organic dressing you're likely to get a helping of Hot Chips – the band, not the food.
"Music for us is part of our DNA," says Jonathan Neman, the 27-year-old co-founder of the Washington restaurant chain. In fact, he and his two partners care so much about the music that plays in their dozen locations, they personally crafted the playlists, creating eclectic blends that run from The Cure to today's British indie Blood Orange.
"When you're dining the food is important, the smell is important, the way it looks is important. And what you're listening to is important," he said.
Until recently, many restaurants were content to turn on the radio or let the manager fire up his iPod. But for a growing number of foodies and restaurateurs, what's on the playlist is almost as important as what's on the menu.

Season 1, Episode 3: "All Adventurous Women Do"
"Try and give less of a shit," guest star Jorma Taccone says during the third episode of "Girls," and it's advice Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Marnie (Allison Williams) eventually learn to take to heart. But not without seeing some major changes re-orient their respective sex lives first.
While "All Adventurous Women Do" zeroes in on Hannah and Marnie, it does so by rather inelegantly pushing Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) to the sidelines. The former goes off on a babysitting gig for a child belonging to Kathryn Hahn, who is utterly wasted in a cameo playing a documentary filmmaker, making a picture about the homeless. It's kind of a bummer to see someone so funny and talented who isn't given much to do. Jessa arrives dressed to work, essentially, in her underwear, a gag that is set up and then pretty much goes nowhere.

Hulu kicked off the so-called digital upfronts today with presentations for its expanding stable of originals. Documentarian Morgan Spurlock, Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers and Entourage‘s Adrian Grenier were on hand to schmooze with advertisers. Producers hope to lure away some of the billions of dollars that go to cable and TV networks; Vevo, Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo and Disney Interactive are expected to pitch their shows to advertisers next week. In addition to Spurlock, Meyers and Grenier, talent on hand to boost Hulu included Megan Hilty from Smash, Speed Levitch of Up To Speed, Jd Walsh and Jay Hayden from Battleground, Michael “Dooma” Wendschuh from Flow and Mayer Hawthorne with Live From The Artist’s Den. Hulu says paid subscribers for Hulu Plus surpassed 2 million during first-quarter 2012 and claims that Hulu represents 20% of the overall online video market and 40% of the premium online market. New soul singer Mayer Hawthorne says he will play his own halftime show, after losing a campaign to replace Nickelback as the act at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game.
Angry Lions fans started a petition earlier this month when the canadian rock band Nickelback was announced as the halftime performance. "The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime," the petition read. It gathered 55,444 signatures on Change.org.
Nickelback responded to the outrage with a Funny or Die video earlier this week.
Ann Arbor native Hawthorne said he'd be interested in playing the halftime show, but the NFL stuck with its original choice.
So now Hawthorne has teamed with Rolling Stone to give his own, alternative performance on game day.

Angry Lions fans started a petition earlier this month when the canadian rock band Nickelback was announced as the halftime performance. "The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime," the petition read. It gathered 55,444 signatures on Change.org.

Detroit soul singer Mayer Hawthorne is gaining a lot of buzz these days. He dropped by the MTV Newsroom to talk about what it was like to be the somewhat mismatched opening act for electro-funk duo Chromeo this fall.
"I've always made sure that I tour with bands that people aren't expecting me to tour with," the artist, who has toured with the likes of Bruno Mars, Janelle Monáe and Passion Pit, said. As it turns out, Hawthorne was the last artist to tour with Amy Winehouse before her tragic death last summer.
"I watched her set every night," Hawthorne said, lowering his eyes. "She really seemed to be back on the right track."
Joined by his band the County, the musician explained how the pairing of soul and electro-funk came...

Getty Singer Mayer Hawthorne attends The Reveal of the What Is Sexy? List celebrated by Victoria’s Secret Bombshells at The Beverly on May 12, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.
Mayer Hawthorne understandably met with some head scratching when his debut album, “A Strange Arrangement,” landed on the scene two years ago. He was a 30-year-old white guy singing R&B songs he’d written and produced in a vintage Motown style. No winks. No irony. Incongruous, sure, but people got over it,...

There's a very good reason why so many big albums come out in the last quarter of the year: In the run-up to the holidays, lots of kids, moms, dads and grandparents truck down to the local megamart looking for good stocking stuffers.
And this year's bumper crop cuts across all genres and classifications, including fall albums from Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence, Feist, Wilco, Drake, Nickelback, Rihanna, J. Cole, Mastodon, Joe Jonas, Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross, Nas, Florence and the Machine, and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery.
Here's a breakdown by genre of the ones to watch for (with release dates subject to change):

We've been hearing about Kelly Clarkson's Stronger (October 24) for more than a year now. The original "American Idol" winner brings the drama...

Chicago — The plan for a weekend of Lollapalooza shuffle firmly established, Saturday's musical Pu-Pu platter was a bit more focused on rock and its various offshoots, plus, frankly, bands I either love already or was just curious about.
First on the list was hip-hop's current go-to hook queen, Skylar Grey. In her first major appearance since blowing up thanks to her vocals on Dr Dre's "I Need a Doctor," singer/songwriter Grey is clearly read to go out on her own. (She would join pal Eminem later in the night during his headlining set.)
Check out photos from the festival!
With a haunting, gothy vibe, Grey came out wearing a ragged white hoodie that hung in shreds like a ghost shawl down to her ankles, accented by combat boots, army pants and a white sports bra that showed off her impossibly thin belly. She was all aggression and angst, at one point neck-tackling her guitarist.

It's the best and worst moment of every U.S. festivalgoer's life: schedule day. On the one hand, you can't wait to see when your favorite bands are playing and then start planning your long weekend. On the other, you dread the sight of two of your absolute faves playing on opposite sides of the mile-long field at Exactly The Same Time!
In which case Tuesday (June 7) morning was either a huge relief or a major bummer if you're planning on trekking to Chicago on August 5 for Lollapalooza. First, the good news: With the exception of a few headliner conflicts, the schedule is actually one of the most fan-friendly rundown in years.
Yes, Muse and Coldplay are playing at the same time on Friday night, which will probably cause major headaches for thousands of fans of falsetto-driven, pomp and circumstance English rock. (To say nothing of the fact that party...
