The horror film Wer just got Simon Quarterman set as the male lead. He’ll play Gavin Flemyng and stars opposite Aj Cook, the Criminal Minds star who’s also starring in the film. Quarterman reunites with The Devil Inside helmer William Brent Bell, who wrote the script with Matthew Peterman. Morris Paulson, Peterman and Steven Schneider are producing. Wer is financed by FilmDistrict, Sierra/Affinity and the Incentive Filmed Entertainment fund. The film begins production in April in Romania. Wer brings a filmmaking style similar to The Devil Inside, but applies it to a different horror mythology — the werewolf. Cook plays a lawyer out to get an acquittal for a man charged in the brutal murder of an American family, and despite his gentle demeanor, she discovers he’s got a bit of a bark to him when the moon is full. Quarterman is represented by ICM and Elevate Entertainment.

Blending the possession elements of The Exorcist with the video-camera stylings of Paranormal Activity, new horror film The Devil Inside has topped the UK box office on its first weekend of release.
It belongs to the found footage genre in which a film is presented as an amateur recording of actual events, giving it an added sense of grittiness and authenticity. It's a documentary-style technique that may well make filmgoers ask if what they are seeing is real, thus offering an immediate suspension of disbelief.
So what better way to see how viewers responded than by pointing a video camera at the audience, too?
Following the earlier reaction footage, taken at a screening in America where the film was released at the start of January, comes a new video from the first UK screening last week. Like the Us showing, it was held in a church, which no doubt added to the creepy atmosphere.

Given the success of The Devil Inside (at least in its first week), we knew it wouldn't be long until the next project from the duo behind that flick would score some support.
According to Deadline, FilmDistrict has taken an equity stake in Wer, a horror film directed by The Devil Inside helmer William Brent Bell that is expected to be one of the hot titles at Berlin later this week. FilmDistrict could end up as the film’s domestic distributor, but that hasn’t yet been decided as Peter Schlessel’s distribution company recalibrates and should have new heads of distribution and marketing by Cannes. FilmDistrict, which is working on a sequel to Insidious and a remake of...

Director William Brent Bell must have made a deal with the devil, because he has another horror film in the works. THR reports that Sierra/Affinity and Incentive Filmed Entertainment are financing and producing his next movie. This should be no surprise since The Devil Inside opened at the number one spot this weekend, with $34 million.
Bell will direct the untitled project based on a script he co-wrote with Matthew Peterman. He plans on starting production in Romania this April. The project is being produced by Peterman, Steven Schneider, and Morris Paulson via their production company Prototype. The project will be shopped internationally by Sierra/Affinity during next month's European Film Market in Berlin.
We don't have a plot to share at this time, but it is reported that the horror film will be in the found-footage style once again. Here is what Sierra/Affinity CEO Nick Meyer had to say:

"The Devil Inside" director William Brent Bell and writer Matthew Peterman are re-teaming for a new project which will tackle another bit of classic horror mythology with a similar filmmaking style reports Deadline.
The plot itself is being kept under wraps, but Bell will direct from a screenplay he and Peterman wrote. Shooting will kick off in Romania in April with Sierra/Affinity and Incentive Filmed Entertainment Fund financing the project.
Peterman, Morris Paulson and Steven Schneider are producing. The new comes just after reports broke of Bell signing on to direct the conspiracy thriller "The Vatican" at Warner Bros. Pictures.

If you’ve ever doubted that a box office success gets you ahead, look no further than William Brent Bell. His latest feature, The Devil Inside, opened to scathing reviews and plenty of dollar signs, landing him two projects less than a week after the film hit. The first of these is Warner’s The Vatican, a conspiracy thriller that shares the found footage conceit inherent to Devil; THR is now saying that he’s boarded another project, one that will pair him with his frequent co-writer, Matthew Peterman.
Other than the note that this is also “expected to follow in the found-fooage style of Devil Inside,” all that can definitively be said is that it’s an independent project, unlike Vatican. Sierra/Affinity and Incentive Filmed Entertainment are financing and producing with Steven Schneider, Peterman, and Morris Paulson, and the companies will shop it around next month’s European...

For better or for worse, The Devil Inside director William Brent Bell has gotten a lot of attention lately for creating one of the single most profitable and hated films we can ever remember. Noting his success, Warner Bros. is lining up a new gig for Bell in some very familiar territory.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has acquired The Vatican, a pitch for a conspiracy driven thriller to be scripted by David Cohen. Bell has made a deal to direct the film. The Vatican, a sale that was conducted right before the holidays, will be fast-tracked by Warner Bros. and is described as a hybrid that uses some found footage techniques like The Devil Inside did.

It was hard to stay on top of things with the holidays looming over the release of The Devil Inside. Thankfully, Evan Dickson was lucky enough to land a last-second interview with director Brent Bell, co-writer Matthew Peterman and producer Morris Paulson to speak about the found footage exorcism flick. The below chat, which is excerpts from the conversation (the best of, if you will), tackles everything from the film's budget to the lackluster conclusion that has more than a handful of critics and fans up in arms. And as always, make sure to write your own review to tell all of Bloody what You thought!

"The Devil Inside" joins a number of other recent demonic possession horror films to emerge as a legitimate subgenre of horror. Only this film is so concerned with authenticity it's shot like a documentary, in Vatican City, with real experts, very little CG, and a very talented contortionist who gives new meaning to "popping and locking."
NextMovie spoke with "The Devil Inside" director-writer William Brent Bell and producer-writer Matthew Peterman at the film’s premiere last night at Regal La Live Stadium 14 in downtown Los Angeles.
Exorcism films are very popular nowadays what with "The Last Exorcism," "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "The Rite" and others. What do you think the lasting appeal is?
William Brent Bell: I guess it’s the ultimate battle between good and evil, you know? Heaven and hell. God and the devil. Everybody in one way or another is affected by religion since the day they’re born,...

Box office sees The Devil Inside as only wide opener. Paramount Pictures has used a similar strategy to their marketing of box office big boy Paranormal Activity and its follow-ups, whether it will pay off this time around, at the end of the holiday season, remains to be seen. The William Brent Bell-helmed horror which screened for fans at a church recently, debuts in 2,285 theaters, trying to topple current box office top dog Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, currently running in its fourth weekend trial. The Devil Inside is scripted by Bell, alongside Matthew Peterman, who in turn produced the film with Morris Paulson. Pic opens midnight, so I'm very keen to see what it posts; we'll let you know tomorrow morning.

Paramount Insurge, the studio's new low-budget arm, has acquired the indie supernatural thriller "The Devil Inside" by writer-director William Brent Bell says Heat Vision.
Shot under the radar in Rome and Bucharest a year ago, the documentary-style story follows a woman (Fernanda Andrade) who has been led to believe her mother brutally murdered three people because she was clinically insane. After being told the murders occurred during an exorcism, she sets out to discover the truth.
While documenting her experience with a film crew in Italy, she becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms. Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth and Suzan Crowley also star while Morris Paulson and Matthew Peterman produced.
Meanwhile, IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Dermot Mulroney’s directorial debut "Love, Wedding, Marriage" reports Risky Biz Blog.
The romantic comedy follows a marriage counselor whose happy newlywed status is complicated by the news that her parents are suddenly talking divorce.

Paramount Pictures may be hoping that a new adaptation of the horror story "Pet Cemetery", currently being scripted by Matthew Greenberg, will enable the studio to cash in on the current wave of Stephen King mania in Hollywood, but their low-budget arm, Paramount Insurge, is hoping to strike gold with a new, more modest horror effort.
The division has acquired a low-budget indie called The Devil Inside, by writer-director William Brent Bell, and according to Heat Vision, the studio is hoping it will be the next Paranormal Activity.
The project was quietly shot in Rome and Bucharest last year by Bell and producers Morris Paulson and Matthew Peterman. This time, however, spirits aren't the protagonists, it's demons…as the story follows the recent trend towards more exorcism films. Bell and Peterman wrote the script.
