Eat Pray Love
Directed by: Ryan Murphy
Cast: Julia Roberts, Billy Crudup, James Franco, Javier Bardem
Running Time: 2 hrs 13 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: August 13, 2010
Plot: Liz (Roberts) decides she needs to find herself, so she leaves behind the people in her life and goes to eat in Italy, pray in India, and love in Bali. Based on the memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Who’S It For? Want to watch Julia Roberts show you around the world? Otherwise, you need to be a woman who feels she needs to “find” herself. Having your own issues is key coming into this movie.
Expectations: I was a little worried I would be watching a rich person have a rich person’s problem. Historically though, Roberts and Javier Bardem always deliver.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Julia Roberts as Liz Gilbert: The big problem with this film comes in the beginning when we are getting to know Liz.

Julia Roberts in Eat Pray Love
Photo: Columbia Pictures Based on the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat Pray Love already has its very own built-in audience, the question is whether or not anyone outside of that audience is going to want to eat what this film is cookin'. It seems to me most women that have read this book either love it or hate it, some seeing Gilbert as a self-centered whiner and others taking notes when it comes to her soul-searching world travels. As a male that hasn't read the book, I have no opinion on these matters.
My only goal was to watch with an open mind and evaluate it solely based on what's on screen. Unfortunately what's on screen is an up-and-down story that seems entirely unsure of itself, and that comes primarily as a result of the story's structure and a shoddy second act.

When the movie breaks away from trying to be a typical romantic-comedy, Eat Pray Love is an inspiring story one can enjoy. Not sure anyone will need to bring the tissues but a bleacher pad may be a good idea since this sucker runs 133 minutes. Adapted from Elizabeth Gilbert's best selling memoir, the flick does stay fairly close to the written word ( at least that's what they tell me).
Portraying Liz Gilbert is in the capable hands of Julia Roberts. We pick up with Liz celebrating another successful novel at a lavish party. Moments after the gathering, Liz is feeling empty. After saying her first ever prayer, she decides to end her marriage with Stephen (Billy Crudup). Stephen tries to convince her to stay, but Liz wants out. She briefly rebounds with struggling actor David (James Franco) who she falls in love with. However, her tank...

Title: Eat Pray Love Directed By: Ryan Murphy Starring: Julia Roberts, Billy Crudup, Viola Davis, James Franco, Tuva Novotny, Luca Argentero, Richard Jenkins, Javier Bardem, Hadi Subiyanto Like Glee? Sorry, but this film’s not for you. Despite the fact that Eat Pray Love is directed by the show’s writer-director Ryan Murphy, it’s absolutely nothing like it. It’s got some fantastic music selection, ones that would be nice to hear the William McKinley High School kids revamp, but other than that, Eat Pray Love is exactly the opposite, dreary, no fun and unmemorable. Eat, pray, love? More like eat, pray, snooze. Julia Roberts stars as Liz, a woman whose life changes after meeting [...]...

In an unpredictable and unfortunate turn of events, the Balinese fortuneteller who plays a large role in Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Pray Love has been admitted to the hospital. Ketut Liyer offered the American traveler guidance during her around the world trip. The palm reader has been hospitalized to treat a heart ailment, his doctor told the Associated Press. Since the publishing of Eat Pray Love in 2006, Ketut Liyer has been a tourist attraction in his town of Ubud in Indonesia. Julia Roberts even paid him a visit during the filming of 'Eat Pray Love' and used his home as an authentic location for numerous scenes in the based on a true story movie. Wayan Puspita Sari told the AP that her 96-year-old grandfather is "exhausted by all of this attention" leading up to the movie's release. He's been asked to appear in commercials and ads. "It may have affected his health,...
