This week, the East End Chapter/Jeanne Kaye League of New York City presented their Spirit of Life Award to raise critical funds and awareness for City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Maria Baum, CD Greene and Gretta Monahan were honored with The Spirit of Life Award, which is presented to individuals who exemplify the ideals and values that have guided City of Hope for more than a century, including compassionate patient care and a commitment to leading-edge scientific research and clinical care.
Due to Covid-19 and the postponement of the 2020 event, the annual celebration took place virtually and was co-hosted by “Today Show” lifestyle contributor, QVC creative director of G.I.L.I. and NY Knicks broadcaster, Jill Martin. Guests were treated to special performances by Kelli O’Hara, who performed “Getting to Know You” and “Cockeyed Optimist,” and...

The field has been cut almost in half on “Project Runway,” with nine designers left going into this week’s show out of the original 16. So who among them survived the latest episode, “Project Runway X Ashley Longshore”? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
This challenge was not for the faint-hearted — or at least not for the understated at heart. That’s because the designers had to collaborate with Ashley Longshore, a pop artist whom Christian Siriano compared to a “modern-day Andy Warhol.” She was also the artist in residence at New York Fashion Week, and the designers had to use her artwork for inspiration in designing this week’s looks.

Louisiana-based painter, gallery owner and entrepreneur Ashley Longshore, who has been dubbed an “avatar of pop feminism to thousands of followers” by the The New York Times as well as a “modern Andrea Warhol” by the New York Post, will be the inspiration behind a challenge that combines art and fashion on “Project Runway” this week.
In the video clip below, Ashley bellows “What’s up!” while standing alongside mentor Christian Siriano. She invites the remaining nine designers to “step into my brain.” Austin, Texas resident Brittany Allen for one, says she has been a fan of Ashley Longshore forever. “She is a pop artist from the South. I love her color palette, I love her sayings on canvas. And she is so unapolegetic about who she is.”

Bishme Cromartie is in the final four on “Project Runway,” but he doesn’t call as much attention to himself as his three rivals. He doesn’t have the outlandish, instantly identifiable aesthetics of corset king Garo Sparo or candy-colored Hester Sunshine. And he’s not as fretful in the workroom as Sebastian Grey. But going into the final challenge of the season, I can’t shake the feeling that he might peak at exactly the right time and win the whole thing. Here are my top four reasons why.

He has the most artistic range — In “The Art of Fashion,” guest judge Linda Fargo praised Cromartie for his wide variety of looks. That will come in handy when putting together his 10-look final collection. He has perhaps the greatest potential to wow the judges with a wide array of looks.

Last week’s “Project Runway” had a very precise and easy-to-grasp challenge for the six remaining designers: Make a custom dream dress for a hard-working female civic worker who keeps New York City up and running. Jamall Osterholm was sent away when his ill-fitting design did his curvy ferry dock worker few favors.
But, judging from the preview at the end of the episode, I hadn’t any idea of what an experiential fashion show actually means. Thank goodness, the folks at Bravo provided two clips to give the unhip among us a clue what to expect this week.
In the video below, host Karlie Kloss greets the Top 5 contestants — Sebastian Grey, Garo Sparo, Bishme Cromartie, Hester Sunshine and Tessa Clark — and reminds them that the end of the competition is near. But first, she explains what they will be doing this week.

Documentary films often tell us the facts about a particular subject. They can be political or religious, or perhaps based on an idea that most people cannot wrap their minds around. But sometimes, you get lucky and see a film that lets you behind the scenes of something most people only dream about. That's how I felt about Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's, opening Friday in Austin.
I may not know much about fashion, but having a fashion merchandising major/style guru for a sister, I had a little bit of knowledge under my belt -- certainly enough to appreciate a good movie about fashion. The trailer had enticed me, clearly riddled with various designers talking about how getting to show their line at the esteemed Bergdorf Goodman's was the highlight of their career. Writer/director Matthew Miele takes his viewers not only into the heart of the store, but...

It covers an entire city block of New York's Fifth Avenue, a Dover marble and bronze citadel of consumption at its most conspicuous. Bergdorf Goodman is shopping at its highest end, a fashion arbiter at the oh-so-exclusive retail level, the capital of aspirational America. From its exquisite designer salons to its ornate street level windows, ornate expressions of consumerism as public art, it is a monument, in its own way, to the American Dream.
"Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's" is a love letter to this New York institution, a celebration of its place within the fashion food chain and those designers who know that when they've been accepted there, their fortune is made.
Filmmaker Matthew Miele has made a worshipful, often playful documentary about the history, the people, the couture and the class of this worldwide icon of money-is-no-object shopping.

See photos from Matthew Miele's Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's. Distributed by eOne Films, the documentary opens May 3rd, 2013 in New York City, and expands to other cities after that. Included are Karl Lagerfeld, Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Georgina Chapman, Christian Louboutin, Linda Fargo, Betty Halbreich, and David Hoey. It’s the most mythic of all American emporiums – a one-of-a-kind Manhattan institution where over the last century, the view of fashion has been transformed into modern art. But behind Bergdorf Goodman’s magical window displays lies a very real world where the rich and famous wield their power and eccentricity, where young and talented designers have their dreams granted and denied, and where money and ambition co-mingle with radical ideas of beauty and provocative style. Now, for the first time, audiences get a chance to peek inside this world, as Matthew Miele...
