Moore explained that she rehearsed with Gosling and Stone separately for six weeks before calling them in to train together.
"I would work with Emma in the morning because she is a morning person," she revealed. "She loves to work in the morning and be in early, at 8 o'clock, and Ryan loves to have his day and come later. So I would meet with him at 8 o'clock at night and [we'd] work for about two hours."

I don’t think anyone would mistake So You Think You Can Dance‘s 12th season as its strongest — aside from viewers who were trapped in some sort of Footloose-esque, no-grooving-allowed nightmare for its first 11.
But while the Great Stage-Vs.-Street/Jason Derulo-Vs.-Descriptive-Adjectives Experiment of 2015 lacked something in diversity (whatever happened to ballroom and disco?), gut-busting emotional concepts (what I wouldn’t have given for one routine on par with “Addiction Dance“) and insightful critique (Mary Murphy and Misty Copeland, I missed you!), I’d be lying if I said summer TV still wasn’t the better for it.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has unveiled its 2015 line-up which includes films representing 54 countries, 23 world premieres and 53 U.S. premieres. The U.S. premiere of Niki Caro’s McFarland USA will close out the 30th fest. Based on the 1987 true story and starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, the film follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. The unlikely band of runners overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.
The festival runs from January 27-February 7.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...

So You Think You Can Dance fans, I have a dilemma.
For much of Wednesday’s Top 10 performance show — which paired each finalist with an All-Star dancer from seasons past — I couldn’t quite decide whether the Top 10 were put at an advantage or disadvantage by dancing with Sytycd vets.
Take, for example, what I considered tonight’s most entertaining routine: a fun hip-hop number between Jessica Richens and her All-Star companion, Twitch. On her own, Jessica did an excellent job with the fast-paced routine (and started to break away from the idea that she can only excel at jazz...

Dance queen Emily (Kathryn McCormick) arrives in Miami with aspirations to become a professional dancer. She sparks with Sean (Ryan Guzman), the leader of a dance crew, but their friendship is threatened by her developer father's plans to concrete over Sean's neighbourhood. The relocation of the peerless dance franchise to sun-kissed Florida - salsa, sun and sex - pays off, with the dancing morphing (sort of) into revolutionary organised chaos.

Chicago – The kids in “Step Up” are hardly the children of a revolution. They stand up for nothing of consequence besides the right to dance wherever they please, even if it means blocking several lanes of traffic. There’s no brand of narcissism worse than the self-righteous variety, and these shiny-faced brats have it in spades.
Of course, this fourth installment is in the well-worn tradition of Frankie and Annette beach movies where the hip kids faced off against their elderly conformists. The script by Amanda Brody is so groan-inducing in its contrivances that it’s a wonder why a film like this needs a plot at all. A sturdy clothesline upon which to hang spectacular dance sequences would be more than good enough.
Blu-ray Rating: 1.5/5.0
Unfortunately, a generously large portion of the running time in director Scott Speer’s “Step Up Revolution” is devoted to dialogue written entirely in clichés.

The Dark Knight Rises (DVD/Blu-ray)
It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival...

As we count the minutes until Eliana Girard or Tiffany Maher and Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer or Chehon Wespi-Tschopp are crowned "America's Favorite Dancer" on tonight's season finale of "So You Think You Can Dance," we thought it might be nice to pass the time in style.

The days when we were privy to Channing Tatum.s swift body and supreme dance moves in the Step Up franchise may be long over, but that doesn.t mean the series of films is ready to bow out. The franchise.s most recent endeavor, Step Up Revolution, beat the beat in theaters this summer, and now it will get a pretty extensive at-home release. The film is getting a 3D Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download release that will be chalk full of bonus features on November 27. Step Up Revolution is more about the dancing than the plot, which is why getting So You Think You Can Dance.s Kathryn McCormick on board was a pretty big boon to the film. Her love interest is former Mma fighter and new actor Ryan Guzman, who teaches her a brand new style of flash mob-oriented street dancing in Miami. All in all,...

Choreographer Spencer Liff may be adding Emmy Winner to his resume soon.
Watching the multitude of dances in each season of So You Think You Can Dance, it’s easy to take for granted the amount of work that goes into each routine. Thankfully, many of the choreographers from the Fox series have been recognized with Emmy nominations for their often jaw-dropping routines. One of the show’s regular choreographers, Spencer Liff, was nominated in the Best Choreography category and will find out next month if he'll be taking home one of the gold statues. (Christopher Scott and Stacey Tookey are the other choreographers currently nominated)
We grabbed a few minutes recently with the out Liff to talk about the career he’s been at for 20 years (he’s only 27), why being out and proud is important to him and how he has a definite plan with where he wants his career to take him.

The So You Think You Can Dance All-Stars returned to dance with the Top 10 contestants Wednesday night — and look who we have here! Season 7 standout Alex Freaking Wong, who exited early because of an Achilles tendon injury and had to sit out last summer, after being invited back as an All-Star, because he’d hurt the Other Achilles tendon. I would guess that Alex Wong’s abs positively loathe his Achilles tendons for denying them their rightful opportunity to glisten on national television whenever possible.

The latest unashamedly formulaic instalment in the Step Up series is as exhilarating and unpretentious as a can of Red Bull
The Step Up dance franchise steps up for a fourth time, unashamedly and unselfconsciously sticking to a tried and trusted formula, here transplanted to Miami. The sweet girl from the right side of the tracks, into frigidly conventional dance moves, loosens up emotionally when she falls for a raunchy street dancer, and it's all leading up to a competition. Ryan Guzman has the smouldering-Romeo role of Sean, who is entranced by Emily (Kathryn McCormick), posh daughter of the baddie property magnate, played by Peter Gallagher, a veteran of movies such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape and American Beauty. It's as exhilarating and unpretentious as a can of Red Bull, with some tremendous high-energy dance sequences, into which this rather chaste film effectively sublimates the business of sex. Step Up 4: Miami Heat is the next, must-see instalment in the worldwide smash-hit dance franchise, of which – you might be surprised to hear – I am a huge fan (whose says Horror fans can’t have diverse tastes?). This fourth film in the series sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami and follows Emily (Kathryn McCormick) as she arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer and soon falls in love with Sean (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs, called “The Mob.” When a wealthy business man threatens to develop The Mob’s historic neighbourhood and displace thousands of people, Emily must band together with Sean and The Mob to turn their performance art into protest art, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.

Step Up: Revolution
Directed by Scott Speer
Written by Duane Adler and Jenny Mayer
U.S.A., 2012
Here is an interesting little franchise. The Step Up films, as far this movie reviewer can tell (having not seen any of the previous three episodes) do not follow any overarching plot, continuous from one instalment to the next. Nay, each is a self-contained dance obsessed adventure involving a revolving door of characters, although IMDb indicates that a couple of performers make appearances from one film to the next. This may speak to ignorance, but it feels as if no one hypes, anticipates, goes to or afterwards discusses these films. Perhaps the safest claim is that the series’ most notable attribute is helping to put today’s unexpected poster boy for cool, Channing Tatum, on the map as he starred in the opener. Still, in the summer of 2012, here comes the fourth film,...

Step Up 4: Miami Heat
Stars: Ryan Guzman, Kathryn McCormick, Misha Gabriel, Cleopatra Coleman, Tommy Dewey, Peter Gallagher | Written by: Amanda Brody | Directed by: Scott Speer
The latest instalment of the Step Up franchise brings us a completely different storyline to the previous three films, with new characters and a new setting. The characters may be different, but they hope, dreams, and dance skills are similar to the characters we’ve already seen. The provide the basis for every part of the series though, so you expect nothing less.
Sean (Ryan Guzman) is co-founder and leader of a Miami based dance crew, called The Mob. They perform flash mobs all over the city hoping to win a competition on YouTube, with a cash prize for the video that reaches 10million views first. He falls for wannabe-professional dancer Emily (Kathryn McCormick), the daughter of the owner of the hotel where he works as a waiter.

Recently heralded as showcasing the world’s biggest flash mob in the opening sequence of a movie, Step Up 4: Miami Heat is quintessentially 2012: dub-step, iPads, and a rebellious mob spirit. It also makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, as ferocious choreography binds with bouncing low-riders and optically illusive street art to create an intoxicating mix. The opening sequence is an a clear pace-setter for the movie, which impressively manages to keep up that pace and then some for the duration. Don’t miss it in cinemas next Friday 10th August!

PVR Pictures’ Step Up Revolution, the fourth installment of the unmatched Step Up movie series, is all set to hit the theatres on 3rd August, 2012. In a scintillating prelude to the film’s release, ace choreographer Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe ‘Shabop crew’ presented a medley from the dance themed film. Held on Sunday, July 29th at 5:30 pm at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Kurla, the performance combined Hip Hop and Street Funk with some groovy ethnic moves. This is the first time Reliance Digital, the main sponsors of the event, teamed up with PVR Pictures to promote a Hollywood Movie in India.
A group of 20 instructors from Sdipa (Shiamak Davar institute for the Performing Arts) participated in this dance act setting the mood for the much awaited Step Up blockbuster. It was choreographed by mentor Shiamak Davar himself.
Shiamak Davar elaborated, “Hip hop is already a big hit as...

The movie studio behind Step Up: Revolution used the power of social media to create a virtual dance flash mob using 300 user-generated videos into a mash-up music video over Timbaland's "Hands in the Air."
For the fourth installment of the successful dance movie Step Up, Summit Entertainment put out a call for anyone to record their dance moves and submit it for a virtual flash mob. The film's stars and choreographers demonstrated four dances from the film which users could choose from and record themselves imitating the dance steps. Summit then turned 300 user-submitted videos from around the world into a music video featuring the film's title song "Hands in the Air" by Timbaland.

New 'Step Up Revolution' movie delivered cool dancing action, drama & more. Summit Entertainment released their new dance/drama flick "Step Up Revolution" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it,and thought it was very entertaining, especially the dance numbers. They served up a lot of good beats and choreography. It stars: Ryan Guzman, Kathryn McCormick, Misha Gabriel, and Peter Gallagher. In the new flick, character Emily Anderson struggles with her wealthy father, trying to convince him that she wants to be a professional dancer. He gives her an ultimatum that if she doesn't land her next dance gig,she has to come work for his company. Character Sean tries to help her out with her dancing, and eventually introduces her to his crew, which is called "The Mob." At first, "The Mob" are competing to be winners of a huge Youtube contest by getting the most hits,...

Dance movies, not unlike pornography, deliver exactly what they promise, sometimes dressed up with a “plot.” Step Up Revolution delivers both a plot (a lame love story) along with the promise of some social commentary. The social commentary is what interests me the most: street dance, since the first Step Up, is largely seen as an outside form, relegated to the streets (remember Step Up 2: The Streets, anybody?). Following the example of another Miami-based sequel (although it was a bit more of a spin off), 2 Fast, 2 Furious – this also heads south for Latin flavor.
When the film works, it works, often creating an atomsphere that another 3D dance movie should be jealous of: Wim Wenders’ underwhelming Pina. In fact, it should have followed Pina’s example, versus cramming in a plot as old as Romeo & Juliet, this time with gentrification as a running theme. John Sayles’ Sunshine State this is not.

The Step Up franchise has helped audiences discover the acting and dancing talent of young stars, including Channing Tatum, his future wife Jenna Dewan, Briana Evigan (from Step Up 2 The Streets), and even Adam G. Sevani, who has now appeared in three Step Up films as a character named “Moose.”
In Step Up Revolution, the fourth film in the franchise, this story of star-crossed dancers takes audience members to Miami, where a flash dance group called “The Mob” (featuring Guzman & McCormick) are trying to stop evil corporate powers from destroying their community.
Guzman comes from a background of modeling and Mma fighting, and this is his first professional dance project. No stranger to the TV cameras, McCormick can be seen on “So You Think You Can Dance?” as a regular performer. Step Up Revolution marks their feature acting debuts.

"I really love 'Seven Pounds' with Will Smith. I remember that was a movie where I could not stop crying when I was watching it. And I think just the fact that the thought behind his whole process, just really wanting to make people's lives greater, there's so much beauty in that, and I have huge respect for that.
"I just really enjoyed it and connected to that. So, I love movies that leave you a better person."
Kathryn McCormick stars as Emily, a young woman torn between her love of dance and her family obligations in "Step Up Revolution," in theaters now.

Chicago – The beauty of the movies is their ability to create weird parallel universes, where young dance crews have the choreography skills of a hip-hop Bob Fosse, the time/funding to create this dance and a law enforcement culture that allows it. Welcome to the “Step Up Revolution.”
Rating: 3.0/5.0
This the fourth installment of the Step Up series of films, and the first two helped launch the career of Channing Tatum. There is a major difference in this chapter – instead of dance crews competing with one another, they use their choreographic power to create flash mobs. This makes for some energetic and entertaining dance moments in this exercise, but the story between the grooves is ludicrous and laughable. But were there ever such complaints about a Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland similarity back in the day? As in those features, it’s not about the story, it’s about hey-kids-let’s-put-on-a-flash-mob.

We’ve already declared Step Up Revolution the guilty pleasure movie of the summer, and now we can show you one of the reasons behind our pick: The ultra-hot chemistry between the film’s stars, Ryan Guzman and Kathryn McCormick. According to the film’s director, Scott Speer, whom we spoke with last week at the film’s press junket in L.A.: “They fell for each other, which is always a huge help.” Added producer Adam Shankman, ”Both are really talented and both are really, really nice, and I hadn’t seen that since we cast Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan [in the first Step Up film]. And we know what happened there — they’re married.”

Bonjour à nos amis! Here is yet another Friday, and we hope you’re all ready to ring in the next two days of free time. You can dance, you can sing, you can create artwork, you can fight aliens or go canoeing or put a bounty on someone’s head. Or perhaps it’s a quiet night: you can stay home, write about your dream boyfriend or girlfriend and hope he or she comes to life! Fingers crossed. Whatever the case, bienvenue to the weekend! Director Scott Speer leads his class of conflicted characters through choreographed routines in “Step Up Revolution,” the fourth installment in this franchise which, no worries folks, is still just as full of dance-a-rific sequences. Classically trained dancer Emily (Kathryn McCormick, a first time actress who previously appeared on “So You Think You Can Dance”) is hoping for a spot with a well-known dance company.
