‘Thunderbolts*’ bound to be released in 2025 is one of the most exciting upcoming releases. The movie aims to introduce a brand new team of anti-heroes to the MCU, and one of the most powerful characters in Marvel Comics in general, Sentry.
Sentry’s role was marked with difficulty during the development of the movie, as numerous actors were considered for the role, starting with Austin Abrams, Dev Patel, and Steven Yeun, who ultimately refused the role. The role eventually landed to Lewis Pullman, something which was confirmed by the studio several months ago.
Now speaking to Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, Pullman opened up regarding what the fans can expect from the role. Pullman was shown an image of Sentry, and commented on his locks, he also claims that he had never worn anything similar in his life, referring to Sentry’s iconic yellow-blue costume.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons… which was, at one point, set to star Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us and Renate Reinsve of The Worst Person in the World. Pascal had to leave the project so he could star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Fantastic Four instead – and even though that much larger production hasn’t started filming yet, as of right now it looks like Fantastic Four is going to beat Weapons to the screen by about six months! While that superhero movie is set to reach theatres on July 25, 2025, New Line has announced (via Deadline) that Weapons has been given a theatrical...

Warner Bros has been dishing out release dates to the likes of Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow and Mortal Kombat 2.
Warner Bros has officially dated several projects that we’ve heard plenty about, giving film fans dates for their diaries.
First up, there’s Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. That film now has an announced release date of June 26th 2026. House Of The Dragon's Milly Alcock stars in the title role in the film and Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow will mark the second official film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe of movies.
The first film is of course Superman: Legacy which is set to release in the summer of 2025.
We’ve previously heard noises that this version of the character is going to be harder-edged than previous screen incarnations of the Supergirl character.
Next up, a film for late 2025. Mortal Kombat 2 has been dated...

DC Studios is wasting no time in setting a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow now that the movie has found its director.
The high-profile movie will fly into cinemas on June 26, 2026, DC and Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. It is the second film to receive a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to overhaul DC under the new banner DC Studios. The first was Superman, which Gunn is currently shooting for a July 2025 release date.
Flimmaker Craig Gillespie was tapped by Gunn and Safran to shepherd Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon). She’ll play Superman’s Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. The feature film, from a script by Ana Nogueira, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, and will depart from the earnest take on the character seen on the CW Supergirl series.

Penelope, the pandemic-written, independently financed and produced young-adult series from co-creators Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn, has landed a distributor.
Netflix acquired U.S. rights to the series’ eight-episode first season, the duo announced Sunday while appearing at SeriesFest. Duplass called the six-month process of finding a distributor for the show following its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival “insane” and told the Denver crowd that “a lot of people were very, very interested” in the series and thus “had a lot of different kinds of offers.”
“We’ve done independent films before, where you have a few hundred thousand dollars, and we go out, make the film and sell it. There really isn’t a model yet of independently made television where you make the whole season and try to sell it,” he said of the process of independently funding and then distributing Penelope. “From taking out the show...

Julia Garner has joined Josh Brolin on Weapons, the new film from the director of Barbarian, Zach Cregger.
Julia Garner has been announced as the leading name in the ensemble for Zach Cregger’s soon-to-shoot horror project, Weapons.
We first learned about the film around a year ago when it became the subject of a heated bidding war. Cregger was coming of the back of 2022’s Barbarian, one of the buzziest horror films of that year. Barbarian didn’t just announce an exciting new voice in the horror genre, it also performed commercially earning $45m worldwide, amounting to around ten times its production budget.
With horror being seen as one of the only remaining genres to reliably pull audiences into cinemas, the success of Cregger’s film saw several studios keen to secure his future services. New Line CInema duly won out and around a year ago, the filmmaker’s next feature was announced.

“Euphoria” star Austin Abrams believes his days of playing high school kids are behind him.
In an interview with IndieWire at the 2024 Sarasota Film Festival about his new fraternity hazing drama “The Line” from director Ethan Berger, Abrams, now 27, said that while he might still get some parts like that in “The Line” that place him in college, it’d be a stretch to see him playing a high schooler again.

You might think “The Line” is simply a film about illuminating the bad behavior of college fraternities and their dangerous hazing practices. You’d be wrong. Yes, that is the subject matter in question, but in the hands of first-time feature director Ethan Berger it’s a richly drawn, slow-burn character study that suddenly becomes a breathless thriller.
There’s a pivotal scene that occurs almost two-thirds of the way into the movie that marks the moment that “The Line” becomes one of the great suspense movies in some time. It’s a hazing scene in which the worst possible traits of Greek Life pledging are actually just a cover for a battle of wills between two guys who hate each other: Frat brother Mitch (Bo Mitchell) and pledge Gettys (Austin Abrams). Mitch is all “Animal House” bluster but deeply insecure — with a wealthy businessman father played by an imposing...

“Euphoria” Season 3 has been delayed at HBO.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told Variety. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
The scripts for Season 3 are still being written. The news comes after a report that the show’s third season has been scrapped entirely.
Production on the show’s third season had long been delayed, in part due to the Hollywood strikes and the July 2023 death of Angus Cloud, who played local drug dealer Fez. The show has also launched most of its cast — including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer — into the upper echelon of Hollywood, making it harder to coordinate production schedules.
In November 2023, HBO confirmed that the show’s third season was expected to premiere in 2025, meaning there would be at least a three-year gap between seasons since...

It has been heavily rumored that The Sentry will be making his debut in the MCU sometime soon, most likely in the Thunderbolts film, currently due to release in 2025. Steven Yeun was previously in the running to play the character, before his exit was prompted due to scheduling issues. However, one Marvel theory suggests that the MCU might be going with a new version of the characters introduced in Marvel comics.
Sentry in Marvel Comics.
The theory is based on certain rumors that the MCU will be changing the mythos of the Sentry, to make it more palatable to the mainstream audience. The theory states that Marvel will be going with the most recent run of the Sentry, where the power of hero the split six ways between 6 individuals after his demise, which then caused one of them, Ryan Topper, to go on a rampage to claim the powers from the other Sentries.

Yaya (played by Camryn Jones) just wants to walk to school with her boyfriend. Living on the South Side of Chicago in a house overflowing with family members, the only thing that gets the exhausted teen out of bed every morning is knowing Dre (Travis Wolfe Jr.) will be waiting on her stoop. The only issue: her protective brother, Mouse (Victor Musoni), doesn’t approve. He thinks her friends aren’t a good influence — they show up late to school too often, eat too much junk food, and don’t pay enough attention to their surroundings. Mouse, clearly, just wants his little sister to be safe, get good grades, and live a better life, but by intimidating Dre, he’s unwittingly snuffing out her one spark of joy — joy that manifests itself via her favorite hobby: dance.

At this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the IndieWire team is endeavoring to take you into the heart of the festival experience, thanks to a series of rolling roundups that aim to synthesize each day, all the action, most of the drama, and the stuff everyone is talking about, in Park City and beyond.
Day Five
We’ll admit it: Day 5 at Sundance started on a bit of a slower note, at least over at IndieWire Editorial Condo No. 2, whose inhabitants were still processing both our (In)Famous Chili Party and/or Aaron Schimberg’s wild “A Different Man.” The first day after the festival’s opening weekend tends to spell a slower vibe, with many leaving after the first flush of premieres and parties, and Park City easing, ever so slowly, back into a more normal pace.

Mark Duplass and producing partner Mel Eslyn are continuing their Sundance reign with the debut of series “Penelope.”
The entirely independently financed and produced series follows the titular Penelope (Megan Stott), a teen who feels more connected with nature than she does her own family. As Penelope escapes into the wilderness, she seeks to find herself in the coming-of-age indie drama.
Duplass and Eslyn co-created and co-wrote the series, which is seeking a distributor at the festival. CAA is handling sales. The Duplass Brothers formerly debuted adult animated series “Animals,” which premiered at 2016 Sundance in the early days of the festival expanding to include episodics.
The official synopsis reads: Feeling out of place in the modern world, 16-year-old Penelope (Stott) finds herself almost cosmically drawn to nature. With no plan in place, she leaves her family behind for the beguiling wilderness where she begins to establish a different kind of life for herself.

The highly-discussed ‘Thunderbolts’ MCU project, unveiled by Kevin Feige in September, solidified its cast with David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko reprising their roles. Notably, Yelena Belova was confirmed to join the Thunderbolts team.
Initially, Steven Yeun was set to portray Sentry, a choice that faced criticism due to perceived disparities with the character’s comic book appearance. After Yeun withdrew, attributing it to post-SAG-AFTRA strike scheduling conflicts, rumors circulated that Austin Abrams might step into the role. Abrams, recognized for his performances in ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Euphoria,’ and various films, was purportedly considered for the complex character of Robert Reynolds.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. He also confirmed that Yelena Belova would be a part of the Thunderbolts team in the film.
Now, the cast of the upcoming movie was the most talked-about aspect of the movie. Initially, Steven Yeun was cast to play Sentry in the movie, and the confirmation followed soon. Fans were not exactly ecstatic with that casting choice, citing obvious differences in how Steven Yeun looks and how comics accurate Sentry is supposed to look; even with a muscle suit and heavy use of CGI,...

Among the highly anticipated upcoming MCU projects, ‘Thunderbolts’ has been a frequent topic of discussion. Regardless, Abrams bears a striking resemblance to the comic-accurate Sentry, particularly in his pre-Golden Sentry serum days, during his less-than-ideal moments.

As we welcome in the New Year, we can reveal our annual (non-exhaustive) list of U.S. and international movies we think could grace the festival circuit in 2024. We’ve stuck to our criteria that the project must already be in production and have not already been announced for a festival. More than 70% of our selections last year went on to debut at a major festival. Those that didn’t were largely delayed by the strike or are still in post-production. If the titles below make the cut, it will be a thrilling year on the festival circuit once again.

Nearly three and a half years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. A few months ago, Øvredal confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 was still in the works and a script has been written, the project had just been slowed down by the pandemic, the making of his Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and this year’s Hollywood strikes. But now Collider has shared a quote from the producers that indicates there might be some kind of trouble behind the scenes…
The screenplay for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been written by the first film’s writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, working from a story crafted by del Toro.

“Euphoria” Season 3 has been slated for 2025, HBO boss Casey Bloys announced at a press event Thursday morning.
The Sam Levinson series’ title was shown in a sizzle reel that said “Coming in 2025” alongside “The Last of Us” Season 2, “The White Lotus” Season 3 and the “It” prequel series “Welcome to Derry.”
Not much else has been revealed about the upcoming third season of “Euphoria,” except for Levinson teasing in August that he views the next batch of episodes as a “film noir.” The showrunner said that through the eyes of Zendaya’s Rue, he will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
“Euphoria” stars Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira and Dominic Fike as troubled high schoolers caught up in a world of drugs, love and crime.
Eric Dane, Storm Reid, Colman Domingo, Javon Walton, Austin Abrams and Nika King also star.

Triple-threat star Zendaya might have risen to fame for her work on the Disney Channel, but her acting in the HBO series Euphoria made her an “it girl.” While Zendaya is the primary character in a show full of interesting, detailed portrayals, Euphoria is probably best known for its scandalous plotlines and cutting-edge subject matter.
