The Critic’s Choice Awards at Century City’s Fairmont Hotel were a noisy affair as everyone with a stake in the outcomes roared for their favorites. The A24 gang at the front to the side of the stage erupted loudly when Ke Huy Quan won yet again (as “Elvis” star Austin Butler and many others stood and applauded) for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” and then again and again as it went on to win a total five awards including Best Director, Original Screenplay, and Picture for directing duo Daniels.
It was the A24 table all over again when Brendan Fraser wept to another standing ovation as he accepted his award for his moving performance in “The Whale.” At night’s end, as the room cheered them on, Daniels thanked A24, “the most supportive studio of all time.” These winners have strong momentum going into the SAG Awards, BAFTAs,...

TheWrap’s film critic Alonso Duralde rates all the Pixar animation studio’s features:
24. Cars 2 (2011) “They should let people see the movie for free,” one pundit opined, “since Disney will make all their money back on the bedsheets.” Some of Pixar’s best movies are sequels, but this follow-up to an already inferior studio entry seemed like nothing but a craven bid for more merchandising money. The results were good for shareholders but middling for moviegoers.
23. Cars (2006) Never underestimate little boys and their love for automobiles. This brightly colored but dramatically flat tale is most enjoyed by a) male moviegoers who b) saw it before they turned 10 and c) have no idea that it tells virtually the same story as the Michael J. Fox comedy “Doc Hollywood.”
22. Cars 3 (2017) It’s a movie about middle age and the fear of obsolescence — you know, for kids! While Lightning (Owen Wilson...

2015 isn't just the first year with two Pixar movies. It's also the first time that their movies haven't opened at No. 1.
"Inside Out" missed that brass ring this summer -- only due to the unexpected staying power of "Jurassic World." Now, "The Good Dinosaur" has underperformed over Thanksgiving weekend, a frame that Disney and Pixar have all but owned over the past two decades.
By most standards, the estimated $39.2 million opening weekend "Dinosaur" enjoyed would be cause for celebration. Indeed, Disney is touting the $55.6 million the film has earned since it premiered last Wednesday as the fourth-biggest five-day Thanksgiving weekend debut ever. ("Frozen" is tops, followed by "Toy Story 2" and "Tangled.")
But Pixar movies have traditionally done much better -- opening on average above $60 million. In fact, "Dinosaur" saw the lowest three-day wide-release debut for a Pixar picture since "A Bug's Life" earned $33.3 million back in 1998, when tickets were a lot cheaper.

Chicago – The animation in Pixar Studio’s latest feature ,“The Good Dinosaur,” is nothing short of extraordinary. At times throughout the film, the images looked like they came right out of National Geographic, and I truly couldn’t believe i was watching animation. However, this delightful animation is in service to an undistinguished prehistoric buddy comedy that wouldn’t be out of place in an episode of “The Flintstones.”
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The studio’s worst film, “Cars 2,” was hitched to the comedy of Larry The Cable Guy as Mater. It was a dimwitted personality, but at least it had a personality. – this film shows almost no hints of personality at all. “The Good Dinosaur” most closely resembles one of Walt Disney Studios’ confused and rambling projects from the 1970’s. It lacks direction and overarching vision, plus much of the film seems just thrown in to see if it will work...

It's nice. That's not a slam against the latest film from Pixar, but I want to offer very tempered praise here. I was taken aback at first by just how slight the film is, but I think it has a gentle touch on the best material in the film, and it does have a very real sense of emotional power to it, cumulative but fairly undeniable. What threw me off was just how simple the film is. This may be the single most stripped down narrative they've ever offered, and I can't help but wonder if this is the result of the film's development issues. It feels like the film's central relationship works, and they knew that was the key to making the film work, and so all the attention was focused on that to the detriment of what normally makes Pixar movies shine, the supporting cast of characters and...

It is a shame that The Good Dinosaur should have to be released so shortly after this year’s other Pixar film, Inside Out. Following in the wake of the earlier film, which was an endlessly imaginative analogy for the emotional and psychological development of a young girl, it is hard for any film from any studio to feel like anything more than a tired retread of familiar ideas. The story of Joy, Sadness, and Riley was so stuffed with inventiveness and novelty with gloriously rendered and conceived avatars of abstract concepts that it defied belief. Inside Out was a clear classic, a bold exercise in filmmaking that showed us what exactly animation can do that no other medium could hope to accomplish.

Shamefully banal, and such a confused mess that I cannot even figure out what the title is supposed to mean. Almost a slap in the face to Pixar fans after the triumph of Inside Out. I’m “biast” (pro): big Pixar fan

The Good Dinosaur, the latest animated flick from Pixar and Disney, is such a confused mess that I cannot even figure out what the title is supposed to mean. Clearly it refers to the movie’s putative hero, Arlo the vaguely apatosaurus-esque giant lizard, but in what sense is he “good”? It’s not like there are lots of evil dinos around for him to distinguish himself from. (There are barely any other dinosaurs at all, which is really weird.) It’s not like he was naughty and learns how to behave...

While it’s worlds away from the emotionally-driven tale of Inside Out in terms of setting, Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur shares a handful of traits with its animation peer in that it is a coming-of-age tale. Similarly to Riley’s journey of dealing with growing pangs and irksome parents, the Peter Sohn-directed picture will orbit around Arlo, a wide-eyed Apatosaurus who is tossed into the deep end – quite literally, going off the most recent trailer – when he becomes separated from his father.
And so, what follows is a defining tale across the primordial land, meeting all kinds of strangers along the way. In fact, today’s all-new teaser finds Arlo striking up an unusual alliance with a trio of T-Rexes. Ditching the carnivores versus herbivores trope, the sharp-toothed squad help our title protagonist along his way, though not before using him as a decoy to gain a quick bite.

2015 is an important year in Pixar’s long and prestigious history in that it will mark the first time that the company has debuted two animated features in the same year – and neither of them are sequels. Back in June, the esteemed animation maestros yanked on our collective heartstrings with the rather excellent Inside Out and now, due to a somewhat turbulent development, The Good Dinosaur will complete that one-two punch when it lands in November.
When incubating in development, not only did the studio switch directors, but it also overhauled the entire voice cast – Frances McDormand notwithstanding – with Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, Sam Elliott, Anna Paquin, A. J. Buckley, Steve Zahn, Jeffrey Wright, and Marcus Scribner now poised to topline the primordial tale.

Disney and Pixar have been teasing us about their new film The Good Dinosaur for quite some time now. Finally with the third trailer, we get some more insight into the adorable friendship between Arlo the dinosaur and his unlikely human companion.
The film is the 16th for Pixar Animation Studios, and with their track record, we are expecting plenty of laughs, plenty of tears, and at least in this case, over-the-top cuteness. The Good Dinosaur takes place in a universe where dinosaurs never became extinct, as it imagines that the asteroid that destroyed them never hit the earth. Arlo is a young dinosaur who due to a storm, gets separated from his family. This is where he meets Spot, the young caveman that helps protect him and get him home to his family.

With one main trailer already under its dino-belt, Pixar’s latest animated adventure The Good Dinosaur has a new promo online featuring more from the pre-historic story. The film posits the “What If” concept that the extinction-level asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs sailed harmlessly by, meaning that the terrible lizards are still around when early man starts to appear. Of course, this being Disney/Pixar, our hero isn’t too terrible, just an excited, if nervy teenage Apatosaurus named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa). Separated from his family after a raging flood, he’s on a mission to find them and will get unexpected help from feral human child Spot (Jack Bright). We’re promised more of Pixar’s patented odd couple buddy comedy stylings, with plenty of other dinosaurs and creatures to meet along the way. Following up this summer’s Inside Out, Pixar is breaking their usual mold and already have their next animation, The Good Dinosaur, ready to release next month. The story imagines if the asteroids never destroyed dinosaurs, following an Apatosaurus named Arlo and a boy he comes across. We now have a new trailer which for the first time actually shows off the voice acting in the film, along with more of the story.
“There were great lengths to try to create a natural world that was rich in all its glory. We did a lot of research, going out to the northwest — Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon,” director Pete Sohn tells Mashable, discussing forming the beautiful world as seen in the new trailer. With the new voice cast of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, A.J. Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright, check out the trailer and international posters below.

This summer we saw what happened when humanity and prehistoric creatures clashed in "Jurassic World," but what Disney and Pixar's upcoming "The Good Dinosaur" ponders is, how would humans have evolved had dinosaurs not been wiped out? Well, it turns out, we would've gone on really cute and breathtaking paleolithic adventures. The new trailer for "The Good Dinosaur" has arrived, highlighting the friendship and journey between Arlo the dinosaur and his little human pal. Like anything from Pixar, it's a big concept, and as they showed earlier this year with "Inside Out," if they are on their A-game, it will be something special. Featuring the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Aj Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright, "The Good Dinosaur" opens on November 25th.

Earning over $760 million, Pixar is learning, after a handful of sequels, that audiences are than happy to watch original movies too. Now they are hoping they can strike gold twice with "The Good Dinosaur," which arrives this fall. Certainly, following in the monster size footsteps of this year's other prehistoric hit, "Jurassic World," can't hurt and this new international spot is charming enough. Featuring the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Aj Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright, the story imagines a world where dinosaurs and humans evolve together, and follows a young boy and cutesy dinosaur who embark on a journey together. Yeah, it's kids stuff, but Pixar has shown that it knows how to make their movies work for adults too. "The Good Dinosaur" opens on November 25th. [Flickering Myth]...

A new international trailer for Pixar's latest, "The Good Dinosaur," gives viewers their first glimpse of some new characters -- and a first listen to them speak, too.
The trailer follows a young apatosaurus named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa), who's suddenly separated from his father, Poppa (Jeffrey Wright), thanks to some rushing rapids. Alone and frightened, Arlo must face a host of obstacles as he searches for his family, and it's on this quest that he meets Spot (Jack Bright), a young human who's also on his own.
The unlikely twosome team up -- Spot seems a lot more brave than Arlo -- and encounter lots more dinosaurs (remember, the crux of the flick is that the giant asteroid that caused the dinos' extinction never hit Earth), including a trio of tyrannosaurus rexes led by Sam Elliott. Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur has roared to life. After rewriting history and wiping the mass extinction event – and the Chicxulub crater it created – from Earth’s official timeline, the studio has put the framework in place for its latest animation, and today’s international trailer offers us our first indication of how the film’s leading voice cast sound in their respective roles.
Centering around the unlikely friendship that blossoms between Arlo and Spot, a twitchy human boy who has all the mannerisms of a dog, The Good Dinosaur looks set to be a wondrous coming-of-age story set against the primordial landscape of an Earth where dinosaurs remain the apex predator.
Perhaps in an effort to smooth over the transition from one voice cast to the next, Pixar’s brand new clip introduces Raymond Ochoa as the titular Apatosaurus named Arlo, while Sam Elliot lends his vocal chords to the appropriately named Butch,...

Dinosaurs are having a moment. It won’t have escaped Pixar’s notice that Jurassic World recently ate the global box office when they unleash their milder, gentler vertebrates on our screens later this year. The studio’s latest animation, The Good Dinosaur, has a new trailer to show its scaly wares. Click below to watch it. The Good Dinosaur kicks off with the Far Side-y premise that the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs missed Earth altogether. Instead, dino and humankind overlap in a scenario that would presumably suit peckish raptors down to the ground. Except, of course, this is a Pixar movie and gnawing and munching would be weird and out of place. Instead of frantically channelling their inner Owen Grady, the humans – one specifically, a boy called Spot (voiced by Jack Bright) – team up with giant beasts – one specifically, an Apatosaurus called Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) – for a...

It seems Pixar can take any impossible sounding idea and turn it into critically acclaimed, box office gold. Set an entire movie inside a girl's head with her emotions as the main character? "Inside Out" has earned $490 million worldwide and counting, so you do the math. And with "Jurassic World" making a billion dollars, "The Good Dinosaur" should be a slam dunk with audiences looking for more dinos at the movies. Featuring the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Aj Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliott, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright, the movie is a creationists fantasy that imagines what the world might be like if dinosaurs weren't wiped up and evolved alongside humans. Here's the official synopsis: "The Good Dinosaur" asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you.

Pixar is still basking in the runaway success of its instant classic Inside Out, a heartfelt and beautifully realized study of human emotion in flux (as well as the most mighty Best Picture contender of 2015 so far), but the animation studio is already looking to the future with a new trailer for this November’s The Good Dinosaur.
Peter Sohn directed the unusual buddy comedy, about a dinosaur named Arlo who leaves home after a traumatic family event and enlists a human boy as his only traveling companion.
The trailer creates a jaw-droppingly beautiful world populated by both dinos and humans, though the good dinosaur himself looks a little out of place when surrounded by such richly detailed natural beauty. Of course, Pixar is one of the most widely respected names in animation out there, so I have a feeling that audiences will be able to adjust to the contrast quite quickly.

Pixar is psychic! Dinosaurs plus Pixar is gold this summer!
The latest trailer for the second movie from the studio this year debuted on Tuesday and offered a more focused look at The Good Dinosaur and the characters that will inhabit it. The film is directed by Peter Sohn and features a voice cast of Raymond Ochoa, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Aj Buckley, Anna Paquin, Sam Elliot, Frances McDormand, Marcus Scribner, and Jack Bright.
The first teaser was more of an initial look at the film so people seeing Inside Out could get a taste of the second Pixar offering of the year while this one is more of a focused look at the main characters. It also works as a hint at the gorgeous visuals that will be on display, which may be some of the best that Pixar has done since Brave.

Pixar fans are in for a treat this year with not one but two offerings from the Disney-owned animation studio. Following on from this summer's Inside Out, November will see the release of The Good Dinosaur.
After some early behind-the-scenes creative turbulence (original director Bob Petersen was replaced by Peter Sohn), the film has now reconfigured with a fresh voice cast and a pre-Christmas premiere date aligned with the one that launched Frozen to big things in 2013.
The Good Dinosaur asks an intriguing what if. Imagine what would have happened to the world had the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs missed Earth. The prehistoric creatures survive and evolve to talk and become more human-like, while man falls down the natural order to sit beneath dinosaurs.
After getting stranded from his family, Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) meets a young orphan...

Looks like it isn’t just the creative and story side that have seen a change for Pixar’s late 2015 release, The Good Dinosaur. Deadline reports that the voice cast has also been overhauled, with Anna Paquin, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Zahn, Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, A.J. Buckley, Sam Elliott and Marcus Scribner all now aboard.Originally targeting a summer 2014 release, the film – which was to have featured John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Lucas Neff, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris and Judy Greer – was pulled from the schedule for some serious re-tooling and moved to November this year. Original co-director Pete Sohn moved into the top spot, replacing Bob Peterson and the story has been shifted. Some of the elements will remain the same, in that the basic story finds an Apatosaurus named Arlo (Ochoa) separated from his family, who comes across a human cave-boy orphan he named Spot (Bright). Wright is...

Arlo's human friend, a young boy named Spot, is voiced by Jack Bright, while Aj Buckley, Paquin and Sam Elliott will feature as a trio of T-Rexes.

In a major shakeup, Pixar has replaced almost the entire voice cast of its upcoming animated feature The Good Dinosaur, a project that – not uncommonly for the studio – has gone through much revamping and reconceptualization since it was hatched by Up co-director Bob Peterson (since removed from this film).
Originally, Lucas Neff, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer, John Lithgow and Frances McDormand were all set to voice characters in the pic, which takes place in a world where dinosaurs never went exist and follows the friendship between a dino and his pet human boy. Though that broad concept has been in place since the project’s outset, it has reportedly been reimagined extensively.

Until today, it appears the voice cast for Pixar's The Good Dinosaur has undergone some dramatic changes. The film has been through some ups and downs since 2013 when the original cast was announced and Bob Petersen was aboard to direct with Judy Greer, John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris and Lucas Neff providing the voice cast and Neff voicing the lead Apatosaurus Arlo. Well, it would appear McDormand is the only one left from that group as the official cast was just announced. It will, in fact, be Raymond Ochoa (NBC's "The Night Shift") providing the voice of the Apatosaurus Arlo along with Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2) voicing Arlo's father, Poppa, and McDormand voicing his mother, Momma. Steve Zahn (Ridiculous Six) provides the voice of a pterodactyl named Thunderclap, Aj Buckley (TNT's "Murder in the First") voices a T-Rex called Nash, Anna Paquin...
