It’s strange to say it, but there are still plenty of music-lovers who are unaware that The Killers have ever released one Christmas song, let alone ten. But, since 2006, the Las Vegas hit-makers have produced an annual festive offering every December, with the sale proceeds from each of them being donated to Bono’s (Red) campaign dedicated to trying to eliminate the threat of HIV/AIDS in Africa.
These tracks – aside from helping a fantastic cause year after year – are a wonderful showcase of the remarkable variety the Las Vegas band have been able to demonstrate throughout their career. While some are perhaps closer to being songs about Christmas than they are “Christmas songs”, there’s no denying that they are all superbly entertaining in their own way.

As The Grand Budapest Hotel arrives in cinemas, James dreams of a world fabricated by Wes Anderson...
The Grand Budapest Hotel is directed by Nadia Cavalcanti. Actually it's not. That was a lie and Nadia Cavalcanti is a made-up person. Still, I'll say it again because if you say things enough times they eventually become tangibly real in your own physical world (it's a bit like Beetlejuice). The Grand Budapest Hotel is directed by Nadia Cavalcanti. How does that make you feel?
Of course, you're probably aware that, in truth, The Grand Budapest Hotel is written, co-produced and directed by Wes Anderson (full name, Wesley Wales Anderson). Now, how does that make you feel? Personally, I'm feeling very happy about this because I'm a Wes Anderson fan and I really like all his movies. In all likelihood The Grand Budapest Hotel is going to...

Has the Orion Music + More Festival found a permanent home in the Motor City? After launching last year in Atlantic City, the Metallica-led rock weekend is setting up shop on Belle Isle June 8 and 9. And in keeping with the name and spirit of the event (Orion like the constellation, not Lake Orion the suburb), the two-day lineup is jam-packed with stars of the rock variety.
Fortunately for procrastinators, single-day tickets, two-day passes and VIP packages are still available. Click here for ticket info and FAQs.
Although the main event takes place over the weekend, two alums from the 2012 Orion gathering in Atlantic City will be pounding out their tunes at pre-festival concerts on Friday night. Catch Baroness at St. Andrews Hall or Chevy Metal, featuring Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, at the Majestic. A Saturday after-show will also bring electronic dance musician Dillon Francis back from the island for a special set at the Fillmore.

Showtime's Weeds began its eighth and final season Sunday and has returned to using Malvina Reynolds' "Little Boxes," a folk ditty written in 1962 about growing housing tracts in the San Francisco Bay area. As the show did in its second and third seasons, the title track will be sung by a host of artists, among them Ben Folds, Mountain Goats and Dierks Bentley. Folds sings the tune to open the second episode, followed by a duo of Kevin Nealon and Steve Martin, Mariachi El Bronx and Mountain Goats. New York-based Diy punks Bomb the Music Industry! deliver

It's hard to believe that nearly half the year is already over. With April having come and gone, we've already endured our first big fest of the season - Coachella, of course - and thankfully this year's Grammys helped make the beloved Bon Iver a household name. Best of all, Adele is on track to receive the first diamond record (10x platinum) since Usher's '04 effort Confessions.
So, basically it's safe to say that 2012 is already a hell of a year in music, and we've spotted some amazing new acts on the rise this year that are sure to only make it better. You may already recognize some of the names (who hasn't heard of Kimbra at this point?), but we hope you get well acquainted with all of them.
Here are six of our favorite acts on the rise. Who are some of yours?
