Kiefer Sutherland is remembering his Designated Survivor co-star Adan Canto, who died Monday at age 42.
“It seems lately I have had to make too many posts like this one, but I am heartbroken by the loss of Adan Canto,” Sutherland lamented on Instagram on Tuesday. “He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor, his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed. I am also heartbroken for his wife, Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace.”

Designated Survivor stood as a remarkable example among those treasured few television shows that possess an undeniable allure, captivating audiences and cultivating a devoted cult following.
Even when ABC passed on another season after running for two, the unyielding adoration was so fervent that Netflix picked it up for a third and final season.
It's time to embark on a journey, revisiting the stars who illuminated our hearts with their portrayals and what became of them in the years following their presence on this cherished show.
Keifer Sutherland - Tom Kirkman
Tom was the main protagonist who ascended to the highest political seat in the United States by slim luck.
For the period he was the interim president, and after being elected, he fielded threats from all corners, many of which threatened to destroy him and his family.

The following contains major spoilers from the Season 3 finale of Designated Survivor on Netflix.
As Season 3 of Designated Survivor drew to a close — and on the eve of Election Day no less! — sitting Potus Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) was presented with quite the ethical dilemma. Given how he rationalized the decision he ultimately made, do you support your TV president? Or was he, in fact (and as self-described), “full of s–t”?
Again, big ol’ spoilers ahead….
The conundrum was born of campaign aide Emily Rhodes’ discovery, on sketchy campaign manager Lorraine Zimmer’s work computer, of an...

When Dr. Neal Baer signed on as showrunner for Designated Survivor Season 3, there was an “executive order” of sorts from series star Kiefer Sutherland.
“Kiefer said, ‘Neal, just one thing: I do not want this to be any more like 24, where Kirkman, you know, saves the world from a tsunami,'” Baer shared during a visit to TVLine’s New York office. (For the uninitiated, that tsunami thing actually happened, in Season 2.)
Baer of course has estimable TV credits behind him, including ER (where during its heyday he served as an executive producer and writer) and Law & Order: Svu. So upon hearing Sutherland’s wish,...

President Kirkman “really screwed” up his State of the Union address to the nation — but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to throw in the towel on his first presidential campaign. Just yet, anyway.
In the 2-minute trailer for Season 3 of Netflix’s “Designated Survivor,” Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) has to face a political reality he’s never come across before: campaigning.
Per the streaming service: “What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”
The high-stakes political thriller, which was picked up by Netflix last fall after being canceled at ABC, stars Sutherland as a low-level cabinet member who is suddenly catapulted to the position of President of the United States after a devastating terrorist...

This week on Designated Survivor, in its Season 2 and, at very least, ABC series finale, Tom Kirkman’s administration stepped in it yet again, casting even more doubt on the future of his presidency.
But as the series cut to black, was change in the air?
Putting Kirkman to the test this week was a crisis involving Taurisi, a Puerto Rico/Cuba stand-in that was at a standoff with the United States about remaining a protectorate. Seth and Lyor traveled south to meet with the governor there, only to get caught in a tsunami that swept up neither of the...

“Designated Survivor” may survive after all.
Netflix is in very early talks with producer eOne to get the Kiefer Sutherland-led drama picked up by the streaming service less than a week after it was canceled by ABC, an insider with knowledge of the discussion tells TheWrap.
The political thriller was one of many broadcast TV shows to get the ax last Friday during a pre-upfronts bloodbath, with the Disney-owned network also canceling “Ten Days in the Valley,” “Quantico,” “Alex, Inc.,” “The Crossing,” “Deception,” “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World,” and “Marvel’s Inhumans.”

Kiefer Sutherland stars in the hugely entertaining thriller Designated Survivor. Here's a spoiler-free look at why you should give it a try.
Heard of the show Designated Survivor? It might just quench your thirst (whether you knew you had it or not) for a new thriller to follow.
The basics are this. Straight-talking, politically unambitious, and honest, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkland (played by Kiefer Sutherland), finds himself on the brink of being fired. As such, he is appointed the 'Designated Survivor' for the State of the Union Address. This basically involves being locked in a safe-room far away, whilst the rest of the government convenes on Capitol Hill.
Fortunately for him, this is the best-timed firing in history, and as a result of an attack, he is the only member of the government to survive. Therefore, being next in the line of succession he becomes,...

There's nothing like Kiefer Sutherland being in charge!
Sure, this time around he's playing President instead of protecting a president, but that doesn't mean he's not going to be a badass.
What's interesting is how cool, calm, and collected Sutherland's Tom Kirkman appears in these photos from considering his life has just been turned upside down.
It bodes well for the future of the country if a guy like Kirkman can handle the pressure so well. No rash decision from this guy it seems!
While Kirkman keeps everyone calm inside, FBI Agent Hannal Wells (Maggie Q) is keeping everyone calm outside. She's definitely got some work to do to try to figure out what happened and why.
How do you think it will all play out? Check out the photos from Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 1 and speculate away!

If you're not excited yet about ABC's new political thriller, Designated Survivor, you will be after watching this new featurette.
Designated Survivor tells the story of Tom Kirkman, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who is the appointed "designated survivor" during the State of the Union address.
When a terrorist attack destroys the Capitol and kills everyone inside, Kirkman immediately becomes the President of the United States.
It's not a job for which he is prepared.
And, he may not be getting a lot of support from the people around him (other than his family.)
At least not yet.
It would be crazy if one second you were a somewhat-average Joe and then in the next the President of the United States. The guy was just eating popcorn for crying outloud!
There has to be a little bit of acclimation time. Not much, though, because this was a terrorist attack,...
