The concept behind writer/director Justin McConnell's latest horror movie is fantastic: a guy with the ability to shapeshift by killing his victims, goes on a murderous spree in an attempt to rekindle a relationship with the woman he loves.
It seems that McConnell's Lifechanger does offer up a reason as to why the shapeshifter needs to change bodies so many times but it seems what's most notable of the movie is that at just shy of 90 minutes long, it moves quickly; "Even the gore is efficient."
Lifechanger stars Elitsa Bako, Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Sam James White, Steve Kasan, Bill Oberst Jr. and Rachel Vanduzer.

"In the quiet moments, my thoughts always turn to her." Uncork'd Entertainment has debuted a new trailer for an intriguing horror thriller titled Lifechanger, from Canadian filmmaker Justin McConnell. The film premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival earlier this year, and it's described as a horror thriller about a "murderous shapeshifter [who] sets out on a blood-soaked mission to make things right with the woman he loves." Though a different description says that he's "not so much a shapeshifter as a body thief", moving from body to body until it decomposes too much. The film stars Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Elitsa Bako, Rachel VanDuzer, Steve Kasan, Sam White, Peter Higginson, and Bill Oberst Jr. as the voice of Drew. This looks crazy gnarly, especially all the body switches and gore. Here's the new red band trailer (+ poster) for Justin McConnell's Lifechanger, direct from YouTube: And here's the original first trailer for Justin McConnell's Lifechanger,...

Lifechanger is a Canadian film. You might not think Canada is best known for its horror movies but it’s delivered some very good ones and some very important ones. From Black Christmas to Cube to Backcountry to Prom Night, it’s a list that could go on and on.
The basic story here, like many movies, is at the surface, very simple. A ‘being’, not really human moves from body to body of its victims. It believes it has to kill to stay alive and these deaths become very frequent as the host body deteriorates. But entwined with this is a love story that has lasted beyond each human body. Okay, they may have sounded a little bit complicated but this is a surprisingly easy film to follow.

To take Justin McConnell’s horror film Lifechanger at face value is a mistake. You won’t understand this truth right away, though, because it starts out being exactly what you thought. Emily Roberts (Elitsa Bako) awakens covered in blood next to an emaciated corpse as a man’s (Bill Oberst Jr.) voiceover is heard explaining the strange circumstances onscreen. He’s the character we’re seeing before us—a shape-shifter of sorts who must “take” the body (and memories) of another once his latest vessel succumbs to its slowly spreading rash of necrotic tissue. And he’s been doing it for God knows how long, each sojourn through the eyes of a stranger growing shorter as time carries him beyond old age. The need for metamorphosis has now become too abbreviated to sustain.
The first act is therefore rife with turnover as bodies start piling up when necessity renders safety obsolete.

The film touts an impressive cast, including Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Elitsa Bako, Sam James White, Rachel Vanduzer, Steve Kasan, and Bill Oberst Jr., and we have a look at the trailer and poster:

Our friend Justin McConnell is back in the director's chair. Taking a hiatus from doing film things for other film people he is back in creative control on his new shape-shifting horror/thriller Lifechanger. Production began last week, so we are a little late to the party announcing the new project. We hope to be visiting the set near the end of the shoot next month, and will report back to you in kind. Pictured above is Justin's best side as he gazes upon, it looks like Elitsa Bako in the monitor. Brandon Cronenberg is currently shooting his feature debut 'Antiviral'. And any new sci-fi horror from the genes of a Cronenberg is something to get excited about. I'm interested to see what Brandon, the son of cult director David Cronenberg, can bring to the table and what sort of styles and influences may be adopted by the filmmaker. The first official still from the production has arrived giving us our first viewing of Caleb Landry Jones ('The Last Exorcism') having a peek at something quite sci-fi. Malcolm McDowell ('Halloween'), Sarah Gadon, Douglas Smith, James Cade, Nicholas Campbell, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Joe Pingue, Matt Watts and Elitsa Bako all co-star. Check out the still below....

The Sweet Karma Trailer has premiered. Andrew Thomas Hunt‘s Sweet Karma (2009) movie trailer stars Shera Bechard, John Tokatlidis, Frank J. Zupancic, Christian Bako, and Laura McLean. Sweet Karma‘s plot synopsis: “Sweet Karma…follows Karma Balint a shy, mute Russian girl whose sister Anna left for Canada with bright hopes of making some money for the two of them. When Karma discovers that Anna’s body has been found in the woods, the apparent victim of a Russian mafia hit, Karma sets off to infiltrate the criminal underworld to avenge her sister. Her journey takes her through the twisted underbelly of society leaving behind death and mayhem in her wake.”
This film looks as though it has a little Enter the Void, mixed with some elements from Taken, Human Trafficking, and X. The mute angle should throw a twist on how Karma Balint communicates with people she does not know.
