Luc Besson’s Dogman is a superhero movie in search of a comic book, which makes a refreshing change amid the summer’s raft of DC disappointments. It skews a little close to Todd Phillips’ Golden Lion winner Joker in terms of weirdness and (especially) wardrobe, but it also offers the perfect showcase for star Caleb Landry Jones, who imbues a boisterously insane action thriller with heart and soul in what must surely be a career-high performance. Which is no mean feat for an actor whose work has always been excellent and has so often gone under the radar.
There is nothing remotely under-the-radar about Dogman, which fuses movies as diverse as Flawless and Willard with Besson’s trademark, anything-goes approach to genre. Besson’s films don’t always work — for every Léon there is a Lucy — but somehow it pulls together here as, pun intended, a shaggy-dog story spin by its hero.

In the instantly mesmerizing opening shots of “The Queen,” Frank Simon’s vibrant 1968 documentary following a New York City drag pageant, a young Flawless Sabrina sits in front of a vanity perfecting her brows. She’s on the phone with a friend, urging them to come to the city for the show and head straight for her apartment on East 73rd street. In voiceover, she strikes a balance between an inviting and matter of fact tone, introducing herself as Jack Doroshow to her family — Sabrina to her queens.
Addressing the mainstream audience that would see the film during a successful art house theatrical release, she elaborates: “I go up to this queen and I say, ‘What’s your name?’ The queen says ‘Monique.’ And you say, ‘That’s marvelous, darling, but what was your name before?’ And the queen will look at you straight in the eye and say, ‘There was no before.

Battle of the bling! Ariana Grande and Hailey Baldwin are both rocking huge engagement rings these days after both ladies said yes to two very whirlwind proposals — Ariana's fiancé Pete Davidson popped the question after a few weeks of dating and Hailey's fiancé Justin Bieber proposed one month after they rekindled their romance. Both rings are absolutely gorgeous, but they're also both very different, so gemologist and diamond expert Grant Mobley chatted exclusively with Life & Style to reveal details about each ring and he also helped us decide which diamond sparkler is the better ring! "Ariana's ring is a three-carat pear-shaped diamond which I think is an awesome shape for her specifically, it just seems to fit her really really well," Grant explained. "It was purchased by Pete from a guy here close to my office called Mr. Flawless. I know that they focus a lot on very high-quality...

Pete Davidson shelled out nearly $100,000 for the engagement ring on Ariana Grande's finger ... a piece that was custom made for the singer. Sources close to the couple tell us Davidson picked up the $93,000 VVS1 clarity 3.03 carat diamond set in platinum last month. We're told it was specially made for Ariana and took nearly two weeks to complete. The piece was commissioned by NYC jeweler Greg Yuna (aka Mr. Flawless). As we reported ... Pete and...

Reggaeton star J Balvin added a lot of flash to his smile ... or at least half of it, because his bottom teeth are blingin' like crazy now. The "Mi Gente" singer hooked up with celeb jeweler Mr. Flawless to commission a perfect grill ... which we're told set him back $15k! And that's just for half of his pearly whites. The shiny grill is packed with 7 carats of diamonds -- all Vvs grade, of course. What...

Joey Bada$$ found a way to memorialize his late best friend and still look like a baller. The rapper commissioned a custom piece to honor his boy, Capital Steez, who at 19 committed suicide on Christmas Eve 5 years ago. We're told Jb hit up celebrity jeweler Mr. Flawless a few months back to make the piece that features 14k gold and Vvs diamonds. Final price ... around $50k. Congratulations to Jules O'Dwyer and her loveable border collie Matisse who won Britain's Got Talent last night (May 31). We must admit we came over a tad teary-eyed when Matisse's three-legged collie companion Skippy made his debut in their final act.
Last night's final prompted us to look back at all eight winners from the ITV talent show to see how they faired after their victories.
From Collabro to Pudsey the dog - which acts have had the most success post-bgt? Here's our ranking below:

Paul Potts stunned the judges, audience and viewers of Bgt alike with his breathtaking rendition of 'Nessun Dorma' on the ITV talent show's first run in 2007. His audition became a YouTube sensation and was later confirmed as the fourth most viewed YouTube video in the UK.

Britain's Got Talent act Entity Allstars have admitted that they will always be compared to Diversity.
The dance troupe won over the judges and earned a place in Sunday's final after performing a Harry Potter-themed routine in the first Bgt semi-final on Monday (May 25).
But speaking to Digital Spy today, the group's choreographer Tashan Muir admitted that it's "really hard to impress people" with dancing.
"Because you've got stuff like X Factor and singing's probably the biggest artform other than film, it's really easy to notice a really good singer and be drawn into them," he said.
"But with dancing it's really hard to capture people, especially with street dance. With ballet and dance like that, because of the emotional side, it's really easy to get non-dancers to really appreciate what's going on, but with acrobatic and fast moves and stuff like that and music, it's really hard to capture people.

Hello Britain's Got Talent fans! It's hard to believe that the last of the semi-finals is already upon us. Will tonight's live show manage to top what we have seen so far this week? It has a hard task on its hands, as Got Talent has served up a brilliant mix of the wacky and wonderful over the course of the last five days.
There are just three spots left in next Saturday's (June 8) final, and tonight nine more acts take to the stage to try and impress the judges and most importantly the Great British public. As usual, the act with the most amount of votes will automatically secure themselves a spot in the final, and they will be joined by the winner of the judges' vote. However, in a sneaky twist, one of this week's third-placed acts will get the chance to return as a 'wildcard'.

Britain's Got Talent runners up Flawless have taken part in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for "most people standing on one leg simultaneously". The dance troupe - who lost out to Diversity in the 2009 series of the show - joined Tesco staff and customers in an attempt that took place at 4.35pm yesterday (October 18). Thousands of Tesco staff at 10 offices, depots and stores across the UK - including branches at London's ExCeL Centre, Leeds, Bangor, Dundee and Birmingham - simultaneously tried to stand on one leg unaided for two minutes in order to smash the previous record of 1,103 people, which was set in March by employees of Atea (Denmark) in Copenhagen. The attempt was also designed to help raise funds for Stand Up to Cancer, the new national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK, for which Tesco is a lead sponsor. Independent (more)...

Why put up one poster when you can put up 11 right?! Vertigo Films have sent us a brand new quad poster and 10 other character posters for their new movie, Street Dance 2. The first movie turned out to be one of the most successful independent British movies of all time bringing in £6.6m at the UK Box office. This new offering brings more awesome dance moves but time will tell if the sequel can be as successful as it’s predecessor. Streetdance 3D was released at the height of all things dance as Britain’s Got Talent was sweeping the nation with new and exciting moves and the likes of Flawless and eventual winners of that season being Susan Boyle in the process, Diversity. The network is trying to tie The X Factor supremo down to a 3-year deal. Cowell said on Friday that the UK X Factor could move to January 2012 to accommodate next year’s U.S. version. ITV executives have been looking for replacements for its ratings juggernaut, which got 10.8 million viewers on Saturday. Network executives had hoped the talent show would be running out of steam by this Fall’s series 7, giving them greater bargaining power. London -- Writer-director Nick Love is gearing up for his long-gestating big-screen adaptation of hard-hitting cult 1970s cop show "The Sweeney," with Ray Winstone attached to star as no-nonsense policeman Jack Regan.
The U.K.'s Vertigo Films has retained the remake rights after the production label's longtime development partners, DNA Films partners Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, opted not to renew.
Love is penning a fresh draft of the movie. Vertigo producer James Richardson told THR that the filmmaker plans to concentrate on making a gritty, slick British cops and robbers movie.
The original series, which aired on ITV for three years in the 1970s, is credited with revolutionizing the TV cop show genre, portraying the detectives as tough roustabouts who liked a drink and some fisticuffs as much as the criminals they were chasing.
Love has built a following for his approach to gangster pics and sharp dialogue...

Hot-blooded openings in 33 markets, including first-place showings in France and Australia, propelled Warner Bros./New Line's "Sex and the City 2" to the No. 1 spot on the foreign circuit on the weekend.

We can only hope that a film about the life of middle age feel-good frumpstar Susan Boyle hits screens soon enough to milk her Rizla thin appeal carried over from Britain’s Got Talent. The fame bestowed by our national talent shows, which half of us apparently participate in while the other half watch, is fleeting for all but a select few, and given the homogenous, characterless nature of dance crews Diversity and Flawless, the industry puppet masters had to work fast. The result is not something as lame as an exercise video or some music video cameos, although these will probably exist in the future if they don’t already. What we get is StreetDance 3D. Apparently it’s the first 3D feature to be made outside of the Us, which is quite an achievement. It’s just a pity that apart from the regional English accents and Grime Pop soundtrack,...

Universal's "Robin Hood" braved a generally soft weekend on the foreign theatrical circuit, narrowly holding on to the No. 1 overseas spot for the second consecutive stanza.
Unseasonably warm weather in key Western European markets suppressed attendance by as much as half in Scandinavia to a third in Spain and the U.K., according to Disney calculations. Paramount described the situation as a "heat wave across Europe which kept grosses down for all films."
Dropping 60% from its opening launch, "Robin Hood" fought its way to $30 million in its second round on the foreign circuit, playing 7,157 sites in 58 markets. So far, director Ridley Scott's re-imagining of the Crusades-era outlaw costarring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett has grossed a total of $125 million overseas.
"Robin Hood" finished No. 2 in the U.K. and Germany but logged strong No. 1 second round finishes in France ($2.6 million from 648 locations for a 12-day market cume of $10.7 million...

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time (12A)
(Mike Newell, 2010, Us) Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina. 116 mins
You can tell by the title, the presence of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and the colossal expense how badly this wants to be the next Pirates Of The Caribbean. But it follows the family-friendly franchise formula so slavishly, there are few surprises. On the plus side, the leads are perfectly likable, the pace lively and the Arabian-themed spectacle impressive, but the British accents and incongruous Iraq-invasion parallel only point up what a dubious post-Orientalist wish-fulfilment it really is.
Bad Lieutenant (18)
(Werner Herzog, 2009, Us) Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer. 122 mins
At last Herzog finds a replacement for the infamous Klaus Kinski, as Cage's long-repressed wild side is, er, uncaged, in an ironic portrait of post-Katrina cop corruption. Nothing like the original, it's more of an insane black comedy, with pulp crime...

Is StreetDance 3D the British answer to the Step Up franchise? Ok, lets see...A ragtag team of teenage breakdancer trying to make it to the big time. To reach their goal, they form an unlikely alliance with a school of ballet dancers and although they have their differences at first but eventually, they all learn to work together and even get along. In the end, there is climatic showdown to determine which crew will win the dance battle competition. Sounds familiar? Call me crazy but I'm a sucker for these type of dance flicks.
Directed by Max Giwa & Dania Pasquini, it features the cast of Nichola Burley, the 2008 Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson and the two dance crew, Diversity and Flawless. It opens in UK theaters tomorrow. You'll find the trailer and three clips embedded below.

There hasn’t been a British film centred around the medium of dance since The Red Shoes (not that I can think of) and that was in the late 1940s. StreetDance 3D not only attempts to bring a new spin on the genre, but it’s a landmark occasion by very fact it’s the first entirely British 3D film.
Dance has undergone something of a cultural rejuvenation of late. There’s been Strictly Come Dancing on television and the dance sensations George Sampson, Diversity and Flawless from Britain’s Got Talent. It appears the whole country is gripped by dance-mania.
Interestingly, the filmmakers of StreetDance 3D, have taken the stance that rightly argues against the idea not all inner-city kids are wasters and criminal in the making. We might not always understand their peculiar ’street’ lexicon, but the hoodies here aren’t going to stab you and run off with your wallet/handbag.

StreetDance 3D is set in London and involves a talented dance crew that win a place in the UK’s streetdance championships, only to be deserted by their leader Jay (Ukweli Roach), five weeks before the competition. With Carly (Nichola Burley) as their new leader, the crew try to continue practice with their heads held high, but struggle to find the money and space to achieve this. They are given a break, when Carly meets ballet schoolmistress Helena (Charlotte Rampling) at the Ballet Academy.

There hasn’t been a film centred around dance in British cinema since the days of Powell and Pressburger. That was in the 1940s. StreetDance 3D not only resurrects this subgenre (if it can be called one) but its the first British film to be shot in 3D.
Featuring George Sampson and dance troupe Diversity, StreetDance 3D is a great portrayal of youth culture and kids working their socks off to achieve success on their own terms. James Richardson, the producer and instigator, discussed with Filmshaft the making of this landmark film.
How did the project come about?
I’d always wanted to make a dance film. I’m a huge fan of the dance film and the genre, so that’s how it all started. I did some research and looked into what groups, which people there were and what’s needed and I met Diversity, Flawless and George Sampson,...

Lebanon (15)
(Samuel Maoz, 2009, Israel) Yoav Donat, Oshri Cohen, Michael Moshonov. 93 mins
You can see why they made Top Gun about jet fighters. This is set entirely within the confines of an Israeli tank during the 1982 Lebanon war, and it's not much of a recruitment ad. The gimmick is both the movie's strength and its weakness. The space and visibility restrictions make this a neat minimalist thriller and a nervy, unpredictable combat experience, but it's one safely insulated from the questions – and victims – of the real-life conflict. Despite the sweat and grime, you feel like the really dirty stuff is going on elsewhere.
Robin Hood (12A)
(Ridley Scott, 2010, Us) Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Max Von Sydow, Mark Strong. 140 mins
Scott attempts to pull another Gladiator, ditching the familiar tights and tropes and reimagining the legend through a combination of mangled history, epic set pieces and deadly earnest heroism. It's more of a prequel,...

London, May 12 – Heather Mills went for the world premiere of StreetDance 3D in London looking not as trendy as she may have thought.
Sir Paul McCartney’s ex-wife, 42, showed off her legs – and curves – in a clingy playsuit at the premiere, reports the Mirror.
Mills, who teamed the daring outfit with thigh high boots, was more than happy to pose and pout for the cameras on the red carpet outside the Empire cinema in Leicester Square.
British dance troupe Flawless performed on the red carpet, which was enjoyed by hundreds of fans.
The free show marked the group’s.
