Such is the world that we live in these days that one of the biggest controversies to come out of Hollywood in 2019 was the appearance of a CGI blue hedgehog. To be fair, the initial design of Sonic the Hedgehog‘s title character was utterly terrifying, with the video game hero’s unnervingly human teeth and generally unsettling rendering causing huge backlash from fans.
In a Sonic movie, people would generally expect the character to look at least somewhat similar to how he’s depicted on consoles, and it must have been a huge blow to the studio to have to go back to the drawing board and delay the project for months as they spent millions on reworking the design to please a fanbase that had definitively rejected their first glimpse of footage.

When the first trailer dropped for Sonic the Hedgehog, fans were ready to riot. The public’s reaction to the new look of the titular character was so vitriolic that the studio had to go back and change the entire design of the movie. This left many to wonder what Paramount Pictures was ever thinking in the first place. Now, we know that those in charge were well-aware that audiences were going to hate the look of Sonic, but they decided to push forward anyway.
Animator Max Schneider recently revealed that Paramount had a feeling that folks wouldn’t be overly fond of the animated hedgehog’s new style. They figured that the general audience member would be much more accepting and wouldn’t care too much about the change, and executives thought they could just ride out the initial backlash from the diehard fans and everything would turn out fine.

Gal Gadot is doing pretty well for herself these days. “Wonder Woman” is behind only “Beauty and the Beast” as the highest-grossing film of the year, and “Justice League” is on the way. Before getting that life-changing part, however, the actress struggled to land high-profile gigs — including, it turns out, Imperator Furiosa of “Max Max: Fury Road.”

Gadot reveals that she was up for the role that eventually went to Charlize Theron in a new Hollywood Reporter interview. The reason she missed out on it and similar parts? She didn’t have the name recognition. “I had so many ‘almosts’ for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name,” she says. “It was always me and ‘the big name’.”

Tim Burton's live-action Dumbo movie has added new cast member Alan Arkin. The cast in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Dumbo already includes Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, and Danny DeVito. Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins will also appear in their first film roles.

Dumbo, Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animated films, has found yet another big name talent to add to its cast.
Variety has confirmed today that Argo‘s Alan Arkin has now signed up for the pic. A legendary actor and one who always impresses, this will mark the second time that Arkin’s teamed up with director Tim Burton, as the pair previously worked together on 1990’s Edward Scissorhands.
He’s not the only Burton regular to be roped in for the project, either. Former Beetlejuice and Batman star Michael Keaton is on board, as is his Batman Returns co-star Danny DeVito (who also worked with Burton on Mars Attacks! and Big Fish). Another Burton regular, Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), is involved as well, rounding out what’s a very impressive cast.

The last time Pamela Adlon took part in a perfect season of television, it was 2007. The same year “Mad Men” debuted and a year before anyone had heard of “Breaking Bad,” Adlon co-starred in the Showtime comedy “Californication” alongside David Duchovny. While subsequent seasons dipped further and further beneath the high bar set in Season 1, the first 12 episodes of Tom Kapinos’ exploration of Southern California culture through the lens of an unwilling New Yorker are pretty damn untouchable.
They were also pretty thoroughly masculine. Once summed up (by my sister) as the most beautifully written soft core porn on TV, “Californication” didn’t exactly shirk its female characters — including Adlon’s Marcy Runkle, a waxer of the stars — but its perspective was definitively and exclusively Hank’s (Duchovny): a good-hearted, sweet-talking troublemaker as eager to defend a damsel in distress as she was to bed him in thanks. NBC is cleaning house on Sunday nights. They'll surely cancel American Dream Builders, they've cancelled Believe and they've also cancelled Crisis as well.
An action/thriller series, Crisis finds out what might happen if the children of powerful people from Washington, DC were to be taken prisoner. The cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Rachael Taylor, Lance Gross, James Lafferty, Max Martini, Michael Beach, Stevie Lynn Jones, Halston Sage, Max Schneider, Joshua Erenberg, and Gillian Anderson.
Unfortunately, this show seemed doomed from the start. It debuted to lackluster ratings and the numbers sank lower and lower each week. At one point, Crisis drew just a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.73 million viewers.
On the upside, it seems likely that NBC will release of the remaining episodes. Eight of the 13 episodes have aired so far.

Get a chance to get to know the students in NBC's new drama "Crisis" before the series premieres on Sunday (March 16) in this Zap2it-exclusive clip from the show's new webisode.
In the video, viewers are introduced to Ian (Max Schneider) and Beth Anne (Stevie Lynn Jones). The two students are discussing their upcoming school trip -- which, of course, gets hijacked and sets into motion the events of "Crisis" -- as well as Beth Anne's family problems.
The webisode is a little meta, because Schneider -- like Ian -- is known on YouTube and Twitter for his talents as a musician. "Crisis" also stars Dermot Mulroney, Gillian Anderson and Rachael Taylor.

Nickelodeon has decided to cancel their How To Rock TV series. This is the fourth sitcom that the cable channel has announced is ending -- along with Victorious, Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures, and iCarly.
How to Rock revolves around Kacey Simon (Cymphonique Miller), a popular mean girl whose status goes down after she must briefly wear braces and glasses. She's ignored by her friends so Kacey finds a new way to express herself through music. She becomes the lead singer of a pop/hip-hop band. Others in the cast include Samantha Boscarino, Max Schneider, Lulu Antariksa, Halston Sage, Noah Crawford, and Christopher O'Neal.
The show premiered to a very healthy 3.28 million viewers with a 0.55 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The numbers fell over the course of the season and most recently generated 2.1 million in a 0.3 demo rating.
