Over its four-season run, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend gave us more than 150 original songs paying homage to every musical genre out there, courtesy of writers Adam Schlesinger, Jack Dolgen and the show’s two co-creators, lead actor Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna.
The series used its musical conceit to take audiences along for the ride as Rebecca Bunch (played by Bloom) abruptly leaves her high-powered New York life and moves to small-town California to be near her childhood crush. And while the songs all expanded the lives of Rebecca and her friends in hilarious, introspective and occasionally self-aware ways, the best of them can be listened to again and again, even outside the context of the episodes they appear in.
Suffice to say, the bar for creating this list of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend songs was high — but the result is...

Like the hair of a Chia pet Troll doll, the "Trolls" franchise seems to never stop growing. The glittery DreamWorks reimagining of Thomas Dam's ugly-cute collectibles kicked off in 2016 with the music-filled animated adventure movie "Trolls." Since then, the movie has spawned two sequels, two holiday specials, two TV shows, a series of short films, and countless toys and tie-ins. It's also picked up an Oscar nomination (for Justin Timberlake's song "Can't Stop the Feeling!") and a cool $600 million at the box office (per Box Office Mojo) despite one of its three installments debuting during pandemic lockdown.
The "Trolls" movies are successful, but they aren't exactly the most coherent kids' movie franchise around. If you're anything like me, you've likely caught bits and pieces of several movies, potentially out of order, when the little ones in your life decided to watch (and rewatch ... and rewatch) them. Brooklyn Nine-Nine alumna Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb (The Act) and Ben Rappaport (For the People) are set as leads in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC’s drama pilot from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The drama follows four members of a suburban garden club — three of them played by Fumero, Robb and Rappaport — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.
Fumero plays Birdie. Entitled, rich, swathed in Chanel, a smoker, a drinker, self-destructive at times, toxic at others, but not without real pain beneath her facade, Birdie is a successful author whose memoir, “Digging for Gold: Dancing Through Divorce,” is a bestseller.

Actress-writer Rachel Bloom opened up about raising her 3-year-old daughter, who she says takes after her. Rachel spoke during the promotions of her off-Broadway show. “Oh, she is hilarious. She’s making up little parody songs”, she said, nodding to her own history of creating such tunes for projects throughout the years, including her The CW series ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ and various musical comedy albums, reports ‘People’ magazine.
When asked specifically if she has ever played any songs from her award-winning show for her daughter, whom she shares with Dan Gregor, Bloom said, “My husband does, and it’s made me want to honestly, at some point, get on releasing some sort of children or clean re-edit of a lot of my songs”.
“The songs are very catchy, but they’re really dirty, and they’re going over her head right now. She’s just listening to the music”, she continued.

The Writers Guild of America is escalating its pressure on the Television Academy after the organization removed the outstanding writing for a variety series/special award from the Emmys telecast.
On Tuesday the union sent a letter from major variety series and specials hosts and a petition signed by more than 1,400 members to Television Academy chairman Cris Abrego, calling on the organization to reinstate the category in the awards ceremony primetime broadcast. Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, Amber Ruffin, Colin Jost and Michael Che were among the members signing on to the letter to Abrego, which stated that the decision “devalues their [writers’] work, and our series, by sidelining writers from being honored during the Emmys’ main telecast.”

Max’s Julia Child biodrama is blessed with a deep bench of winning characters played by incredible actors. Aside from Julia (Sarah Lancashire) and her husband Paul (David Hyde-Pierce), there's Julia's best pal Avis (Bebe Neuwirth), the public-television producer who helped shepherd her show to the air (Brittany Bradford as Alice), her original French Chef director Russ (Fran Kranz), her new director Elaine (Rachel Bloom); the list goes on. But a special place at the table should be set for Julia's Judith Jones (Fiona Glascott), the book editor at the Knopf publishing house and the French Chef’s first great champion. She's a character so dynamic, self-possessed, and charismatic, that there seems only one thing left for her to do: leave Julia for a spin-off of her own.

Season one of Max’s Julia introduced Sarah Lancashire as Julia Child, the iconic chef and author who taught American television audiences the art of cooking with The French Chef. The first season delved into Child’s personal and professional life while charting her ascension to TV star. Season two picks up the larger-than-life television personality in France, where she and her loving husband, Paul (David Hyde Pierce), are visiting Simca (Isabella Rossellini) and working on a new cookbook.
Series creator, writer, and executive producer Daniel Goldfarb revealed that they intended to go to France in season one, but that never transpired. Once the series was renewed for season two, there was never a question the story would include a trip to the South of France.
“We got Isabella Rossellini to play Simca Beck, Julia’s writing partner, and then just because of Covid and everything, it became too complicated.

It is no secret that social media can wield untold power. Influencers and celebrities have spent the past two decades carefully cultivating a social media presence and identity in hopes of drawing in their audience.
Simultaneously, with millions clinging to their every word at a time when hate is skyrocketing online, there can also be a substantial downside associated with public figures’ deep influence.
This is particularly true when it comes to antisemitism, which rose to a record-high level in the U.S. during 2022, according to the Anti-Defamation League (Adl). In addition to the 3,700 incidents of antisemitic assault, vandalism and harassment recorded that year, marking a 36% increase from 2021, antisemitism is also surging in the realm of public opinion and perception. The Adl reported that 20% of Americans believe in six or more antisemitic tropes, significantly more than the 11% figured that the organization documented in 2019.

As the U.S. surpasses 240 school shootings in 2023, setting the stage for a record-breaking year of gun violence in schools, Sandy Hook Promise (Shp) is launching “Just Joking,” its latest public service announcement (PSA) to underscore how important it is to take threats of gun violence seriously.
The PSA features a lineup of renowned comedians – including Billy Eichner, Wanda Sykes, Margaret Cho, Jay Pharoah, Roy Wood Jr., Caitlin Reilly, David Cross, Iliza Shlesinger and Rachel Bloom – who lend their wit to deliver a sobering message: Threats are not jokes. If you see a warning sign of violence, always say something.

Seth MacFarlane is partnering with the Entertainment Community Fund for a new $10 million strike initiative for out-of-work industry laborers — and he helped kick things off by donating $5 million to the fund himself, the Ecf announced Thursday.
Assisting film and TV entertainment professionals across practices, from writing and production assistants to key grips and gaffers to lighting and sound designers, the Ecf (previously known as The Actors Fund) has experienced a spike in need for emergency financial assistance over the course of the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes. This assistance covers basic living expenses like rent, groceries, health insurance and medical bills, as well as mental health support.
In a release obtained by TheWrap, the Ecf said they are distributing between $400,000 and $500,000 weekly, compared to pre-strike averages of about $75,000 per week.

From a custom “Bob’s Burgers” song to dinner with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, or even a special one-on-one dog walk with Adam Scott, the auction offerings range from the unique to the um, very unique. Have you ever imagined what it would be like to take a pottery class with Busy Phillips? Or have dinner straight out of "Mr. Show" with Bob Odenkirk And David Cross? Perhaps you'd like some help on the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle with "Poker Face" star Natasha Lyonne? Maybe, just maybe, you're the kind of person who dreams of Adam Scott walking your dog, or of admiring a watercolor painting of your dog created by six-time Emmy-winner John Lithgow. If any of these oddly specific situations have you screaming out, "Yes! That's me! I am the person who dreams of these things!", I've got some unbelievably great news for you.

The Herb Alpert Foundation has donated $250,000 to the Entertainment Community Fund to aid idled film and TV industry workers during the ongoing Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes. A matching donation by an anonymous donor brings the total gift to $500,000.
“When artists are in need, it is important for society to offer support,” said Alpert, co-founder of A&m Records. “The reason is simple: Our society is poorer when artists aren’t able to share their work with us. My hope is that our matching grant to the Entertainment Community Fund will keep inspiring others to support our artists in need.”
Rona Sebastian, president of the Herb Alpert Foundation, added, “The Herb Alpert Foundation is thrilled to provide essential funding to support the talented writers, actors and dedicated industry professionals during this challenging work stoppage period. For 24 years, The New Yorker has leaned on the talents of actors, writers, and others from the world of Hollywood to be a part of its annual New Yorker Festival, which will be held this year Oct. 6-8.
The ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes have thrown a wrench in many plans that have traditionally relied on Hollywood talent, but the festival will go on, New Yorker editor David Remnick tells The Hollywood Reporter. And there will still be plenty of star power.
The New Yorker, of course, is not owned by a struck company, but SAG has advised its members not to promote projects from studios that have not signed interim agreements, and the Condé Nast-owned publication has had to adapt accordingly: “We faced a challenge or two,” Remnick says.

With the one-year anniversary of Dobbs v. The chart reveals how the 10 major Hollywood studios have responded to the group’s demands for abortion safety protocols for productions in states where abortion has been banned and criminalized. A second slide evaluates the effectiveness of the reproductive health and safety hotlines that was one of the group’s suggestions.
The report — displayed here, along with a new statement from the coalition — reveals mixed results. When the Writers Guild strike began on May 2, it wasn’t just union members trying to anticipate what a months-long work stoppage might mean.
A number of industry and writer-adjacent organizations on both coasts had already begun discussions about the work stoppage’s potential impact in the weeks before negotiations between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers ended on May 1 without a deal. With the memory of the three months it took to reach a deal during the last Hollywood writers’ strike in 2007-2008 on the mind, industry and entertainment-adjacent organizations were on alert.
The challenge, a few tell The Hollywood Reporter, wasn’t whether they’d respond, but to what needs, when and for how long alongside what the WGA was already offering its striking members.
As of last December, that was $20 million in strike funds, according to the union, with WGA West’s...

Some of Hollywood’s high-profile show creators with big overall deals have been noticeably absent from the picket line over the last eight days — that is, until Tuesday.

The recent passing of Harry Belafonte — and the viral proliferation of a clip featuring the iconic singer/actor/activist crooning “Day-o” in front of a boat packed with dancing pigs — was a reminder of how many stars of a certain generation were at their most relaxed and ebullient as participants on The Muppet Show.
Some 44 years after Belafonte did The Muppet Show, the powers that be at Disney and the Muppet Studio continue to go out of their way to find avenues for Muppet programming that inexplicably avoid just doing The Muppet Show for a new generation. There’s a willingness to fritter this priceless brand away on tangential projects that vanish quickly and forgettably instead of bringing the characters and the A-list stars who love them together in one spoof-and-song-driven space.

SAG-AFTRA, in partnership with the Motion Picture Association and a host of other industry unions and organizations, has launched the Green Council Initiative to promote eco-responsible entertainment. Founded by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, the initiative’s top priority is the reduction of single-use plastic on set, on screen and in audience homes, while normalizing the use and depictions of reusables – much like the “Buckle Up Hollywood!” movement pushed to promote seat belt awareness back in the 1990s.
Green Council’s founding members include Drescher, Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Diane Keaton, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Salma Hayek, Gloria Estefan, Peter Sarsgaard, Rosario Dawson, Billy Porter, Aida Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, Rachel Bloom, Chris Colfer, David Dastmalchian and Ellen Crawford.
