Trujillo is a member of California band The Helmets, and he’ll be playing with Korn until May 6.

First of all, there’s his instrument. It’s ostensibly a bass, but it’s got six strings, and it’s running through a couple different effects that make it sound like a guitar. Also, Thundercat (né Stephen Bruner) is playing it so fast that he makes the thing sound like a Metallica guitar solo, but instead of thrash metal, he and his band are pumping out a strange mix of extremely adept jazz, funk and R&B, all of which anchor his silky falsetto. (And on one of his recent singles, the equally silky voices of Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins.

[[tmz:video id="0_01tpdgbx"]] Metallica made a deli dude's day when they rolled by his counter blaring their classic, "Enter Sandman" ... and he didn't hesitate to take lead vocals. All of the metal legends -- James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo -- were in a Hollywood Gelson's supermarket Thursday with Billy Eichner from "Billy on the Street" ... and we were lucky enough to happen upon the live action. Heads were banging for sure, mostly behind the deli counter.

When Metallica’s eponymously titled fifth studio album hit shelves on Aug. 12, 1991, fans, critics, and even the band’s Thrash metal brethren felt an instantaneous sense of betrayal. The pointed snarl and metal-up-your-a** belligerence that had come to define their sound during the mid-1980s had been transformed into mainstream merchandise suitable for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.
What had originally gained traction through small clubs and tape trading was no longer the property of the subculture responsible for its inception, and, for an army of socially disenfranchised heavy metal fans, nothing could be worse than having one of their beacons stolen from them in the name of big business.
For a genre that had always championed individuality and anti-establishment rhetoric, the reality of Metallica joining forces with Bob Rock to create something palatable for the masses was the equivalent of President George H.W. Bush halting the Gulf War to admit...

I really like this idea. Wear Your Music collects used guitar strings from popular musicians, turns them into bracelets, and sells them, with 100% of the net profits going to the musician's charity of choice. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath has donated some of his guitar strings, with the proceeds going to Nordoff Robbins music charity. There are several different styles available, at different price points.
Other musicians of note include Robert Trujillo, Kirk Hammett and James Hetford of Metallica; Lita Ford; and David Ellefson of Megadeth.

Washington, November 1: Metallica band members have confessed that they love Justin Bieber's music and really admire him.
James Hetfield, lead singer of the heavy metal band, told a rock magazine in an interview that they are all "Beliebers", TMZ.com reported.
Drummer Lars Ulrich said that he thinks the 'Baby' hitmaker is really talented and to go through what he is going through at such a young age must be "a mindf**k".
Bassist Robert Trujillo added that he would be a "Belieber" like the rest of his bandmates if the 19-year-old pop singer stays out of trouble.
Bieber had recently covered the band's 1984.

Powerful. Ethereal. Jaw-dropping.
These are just three adjectives which can be used to describe Metallica’s latest cinematic experience Metallica: Through the Never.
For those of you who are fans of the American heavy metal band, this will blow your socks off. Not only are you treated to what is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and elaborate live performances you will ever see, but there is also a surreal and fantastical sub-plot which accompanies their greatest hits.
For those of you aren’t, well this might just be the thing which tips you over the edge. I’m not talking about those of you who hate Metallica and metal music in general, and even so there are some interesting questions which need answering if you are paying for a ticket to a show you know you are going to hate. I’m talking about those people maybe know only a couple of songs,...

James is off to never never-land, as he considers Metallica: Through The Never and the band's appearances in the movies...
A Metallica movie? Oh yeah? Say f*ck yeah, James! I'm there and I'm throwing up heavy metal horns and headbanging like a maniac. Unfortunately, trying to watch a film and simultaneously make moshpit movements is a tricky feat to pull off.
It raises a distressing dilemma: "to rock out or not to rock out?" It's a little like those moments where you're enjoying a musical and can't resist singing along, except with the Headbanger Hamlet question, there's little chance of you being able to follow what's happening on screen.
You can't properly appreciate, say, the cinematography and nuanced depth of the acting performances with blurred vision and flailing hair in your eyes. Also, as unfortunate possible side effects, you can end up...

A former child actor who was born and raised in New York City, Reynier Molenaar made his debut in the entertainment industry as a child actor, premiering in such landmark music videos as Krs-one's My Philosophy, and the Latin Empire's Puerto Rican And Proud, directed by Henry Chalfant (Style Wars). He would later in life attend The California Institute of the Arts, where he made the switch from acting to directing-producing and began his career at Fox Searchlight Pictures, where he produced original content for films such as I Think I Love My Wife, Notes on a Scandal, The Namesake, and Little Miss Sunshine, among many others.
Leading up to the release of mega selling multi-platinum metal band Metallica's documentary, Metallica Through the Never, IMAX reached out to him to create a short film 'Metallica – Amped For IMAX' for the fans which was a collaboration with the band themselves. We asked him to share his experiences with us.
LatinoBuzz: How did you discover filmmaking?
Reynier: My dad took me to see E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial when I was about 3 years old. It was my first movie and I was captivated by the magic on the big screen. Pet aliens, flying bikes, kids outsmarting adults -- I was hooked! But when I found out that E.T. had to go home, I had a stage-4 meltdown. My dad carried me out to the lobby where he tried to comfort me. As he wiped my tears away, he revealed that movies were make-believe. He told me that they were all pretend. Somebody just made that stuff up! He even said, get this, a director's job was to make-believe with cameras. ...wait, what? Mind Blown. I've been playing with film ever since.
LatinoBuzz: What is the most rewarding thing about film & video for you?
Reynier: I love dreaming up stories and making them come to life. I love shepherding ideas through that creative process. There's something magical that happens when you focus all your energy on realizing your imagination -- life takes you on some incredible adventures. I've bombed around with parkour stuntmen, flown in hot-air balloons, hung off the sides of speeding cars, battled zombies, and most recently, hung out with rock legends. Every project feels like a chance to dream my next adventure into existence, which makes the work a reward unto itself.
LatinoBuzz: When you were approached by Metallica's people, what were your first thoughts and what was the creative process behind the concept you came up with?
Reynier: I was pretty stoked when IMAX contacted me about directing a branded short for Metallica Through the Never. I had just finished working with IMAX on another production (for Disney), so it was pretty gratifying to hear they wanted me back so soon. Not to mention I'm a huge Metallica fan! We kicked-off the production with a screening of Metallica Through the Never in IMAX 3D -- which was a lot of fun! It was all I could do not to break out my devil horns during the film. Then I went home and watched all of Metallica's documentaries. I found backstage footage of the band. I listened to all of their music. I wanted to make sure our short felt authentic to the fans. I wrote four concepts and then designed some visual boards. I always try to put some visuals together when I'm pitching ideas to clients
. On short-form projects, like commercials, it can be hard to convey the proper tone with just a written script. I think visuals can help everybody get on the same page very quickly. Once Metallica and IMAX signed off on the concept, things started to move really fast. Sedna Films prepped our crew in record time, including 2 units lead by my talented director of photography, Spencer Goodall. And after a couple of short weeks, we were filming Metallica, a biker gang and 1,600 screaming fans at a secret show in San Diego. I'm still pinching myself!
LatinoBuzz: I can't imagine what it is like to hang with those guys, how were they to work with?
Reynier: They were all super nice dudes, and such natural performers. I got to film with them individually, so it was cool to style each of their scenes to match their personalities. Robert Trujillo was a lot of fun to work with, since he was just as enthusiastic as some of the fans. He was incredibly generous with his takes, which helped me find some great improvised moments with him. Lars Ulrich had a really strong presence. It was pretty obvious we didn't need to do much more than point a camera at him. So we gave him some bold, dramatic lighting and let his expressive eyes do all the talking. His shots are some of my favorite in the short -- so much intensity.
We shot Kirk Hammett's scenes while he warmed up for the show. It was a pretty incredible experience to hang with the maestro while he rocked his personal axe, affectionately labeled "Kirk's Guitar." At one point my camera team and I broke away for a late bite. Since we happened to be eating an hour later than everybody else, we were the only ones around to find Metallica jamming out in their private "tuning room," next door. When James Hetfield emerged and found us scarfing down our dinner, he apologized for the loud music. We just thanked him for the awesome tunes and said we dug listening to Metallica rock while we ate. James chuckled as he walked off toward the stage, "yeah man! Dinner music!"
LatinoBuzz: What are you working on next?
Reynier: I'm on hold to direct a commercial that involves some spy action goodness... I would tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you. Just take my word for it, as a grown man with a James Bond ring tone: I'm excited!

For years, I’ve joked that Metallica has exactly two good songs, both of them off their mega-selling 1991 album Metallica. Those two songs are the lovely, lilting “Nothing Else Matters,” the closest these demon noise-makers ever came to a power ballad, and also “Enter Sandman,” which is their primordially catchy if very sinister idea of a lullaby. In a funny way, I’d say that Metallica agrees with me: Those two uncharacteristically melodious and listenable tunes are played at the very end oftheir new concert film, Metallica Through the Never. They know, in their way, that they’re saving the best for last.

I thoroughly enjoyed talking to James Hetfield, lead singer, co-founder, main songwriter, and lyricist of the iconic American rock group Metallica. Fresh from the success of their thoroughly engaging documentary, .Some Kind of Monster,. they are back with the concert-documentary .Metallica: Through the Never,. with the title taken from the band.s 1991 self-titled album (interview video below).
Directed by Nimrod Antal (.Kontroll,. .Vacancy,. .Armored,. .Predators.), the quasi-narrative movie follows a young roadie named Trip (Dane DeHaan, the up and coming actor from .Chronicle,. .Lawless,. .Lincoln,. .The Place Beyond the Pines,. .The Amazing Spider-Man 2.) and his surreal adventure with footage from various Metallica concerts as a rockin. backdrop.
Truth be told, forget about Justin Bieber or One Direction, this is the concert documentary to watch! Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo are members of a boy band, according to Hetfield.

It's not exactly a trailer, but this short film, "Metallica: Amped for IMAX" achieves the same goal as a trailer -- it gives you a good idea of what to expect from the film, in this case, "Metallica Through the Never," which will be released exclusively in over 250 IMAX 3D theaters on September 27 before expanding to additional theaters on October 4. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal, the film immerses audiences in a sold-out Metallica concert featuring the most elaborate live-performance stage ever built and 3D photography captured using up to 24 cameras simultaneously. Whether or not you're a Metallica fan, you'll appreciate the film's incredible production values (but keep in mind that they handed out ear plugs at the press screening). As an added bonus for fans, Metallica's James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo will make in-theater appearances in celebration of the opening weekend of "Metallica Through the Never" at select IMAX theaters.

Things spotted at this year's Comic-Con: Harrison Ford, Jennifer Lawrence, countless cosplayers, and ... Metallica? Well, the annual pop-culture convention is known for throwing a few surprises each year, so when one of the biggest metal bands of all time decides to hold its own panel in Hall H -- a location normally reserved for movie stars -- you just sort of shrug and say, "Well, that's Comic-Con for ya'."
Of course, Metallica weren't stopping by just to say hi. But, this being Metallica, this isn't just ordinary concert footage. This performance was created especially for the film and included an enormous 200-foot stage equipped with hydraulics, pyrotechnics, and iconic...

Metallica has enough songs for its follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic,” but fans may have a bit of a wait before they get the next studio album from the metal gods. “We’ve getting there,” bassist Robert Trujillo told Billboard, “and we’ll have something great, hopefully, in the next year.” “We got out into the room and jammed and we’ve come up with enough material for a record, for sure,” confirmed lead singer James Hetfield. “We just haven’t had enough time to really focus on it and dial in and start whittling it into these masterpieces, hopefully.” Standing between the band and...

Nimrod Antal (Predators, Vacancy) has signed on to direct a 3D concert film about heavy metal band Metallica to be produced by Charlotte Huggins (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island). The new movie will combine concert footage with narrative elements starring the band's four members, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. The plan is to begin shooting in August, aiming for a summer 2013 release. Metallica recently wrapped up a slew of gigs with fellow '80s metal giants Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, followed by an art-rock collaborative release with Lou Reed entitled "Lulu." The band is also curating its inaugural "Orion Music and More" festival this June in New Jersey.

Metallica has been all over the news lately, from their performance in a Danish prison to their ... ahem ... interesting collaboration with Lou Reed called "Lulu." For hardcore Metallica fans though, the real news is a reunion with former bassist Jason Newsted.
Newsted left Metallica in 2001 to pursue other musical projects. He reunited with the band when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2009, but this was the first time in over a decade that he played with the band at a gig.
The happy event took place at the first of four 30th anniversary (we refuse to accept that it's been that long) concerts in San Francisco. According to Rolling Stone, front man James Hetfield told the packed crowd that they were about to be joined by "someone who lived with us, and toured with us, and did stuff with us for 14 years."

If you should run into Metallica frontman James Hetfield today, toss up your most powerful metal horns and buy that dude a slice of Devil's Food cake, because it's his birthday. Hetfield is now 47 years old and aging rather well for a guy who has lived as hard as he has. As the co-founder (with drummer Lars Ulrich) and voice of one of metal's most enduring bands (and one of America's finest rock institutions), Hetfield has been responsible for some of the greatest shout-alongs in history (most notably "Exit light/ Enter night/ Take my hand/ We're off to Never-Never Land!").
Born in southern California in 1963, Hetfield was raised a Christian Scientist and began his musical exploration at age nine when he began taking piano lessons. He graduated to drums and then guitar, and he got deep into Aerosmith as well as a trend that was later described as the...
