Filmmaker Matthew Newton might have hoped that his indie drama would have seemed a little less timely upon its release, but the recent travel ban and immigration crackdown has only given his effort greater urgency. Depicting the struggles of three undocumented Bronx high school students to avoid deportation, From Nowhere resonates with tender compassion for its characters.
The story’s young central figures, who all came to the United States as young children, are Moussa (J. Mallory McCree), from Guinea, whose mother (Chinasa Ogbuagu) is struggling financially; Alyssa, from Peru, whose sunny optimism reflects her status as class valedictorian; and Sophie...

After it bowed at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, director Matthew Newton’s (“Three Blind Mice”) latest feature “From Nowhere” took home the Audience Award in the Narrative Spotlight section, and now the festival winner is due for its theatrical release.
The film will arrive in theaters on February 17 in both New York City (at the Village East) and in Los Angeles (at the Laemmle Music Hall). Its timing couldn’t be more appropriate, as the film reflects the fear of deportation that many people now have regarding the stance our current administration has on immigration.

We’ve got good news and bad news, Homeland fans. The good news: Sunday’s Season 6 premiere, “Fair Game,” confirms that bad-ass CIA assassin Peter Quinn is indeed alive. (Yay!) The bad news: Yeah, he’s not in such great shape.
After getting dosed with a chemical weapon last season and falling into a coma, Quinn somehow miraculously survived. (He is one tough cookie, after all.) But though he’s recovering in a Va hospital in New York City, Carrie discovers he’s not showing up for physical therapy like he should. When she does track him down, he looks terrible: weak,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review of “Homeland” Season 6, Episode 1, “Fair Game,” contains spoilers.]
Immediate Reaction
Quinn is alive! …and boy is he in trouble. Our immediate elation over Rupert Friend’s return to “Homeland” (following a cliffhanger ending in Season 5 that left his well-being very much in doubt) was slowly reined in over the course of the hour-long premiere. Severely inhibited mentally and physically restricted, Quinn has all but given up at this point in his journey. He’s throwing his money away on prostitutes and drugs, searching for any kind of reprieve from the agony plaguing his mind and body. By episode’s end, Carrie takes pity on his living situation, but it will likely be a long road to back to proper health for the fan favorite.

It all comes down to trust.
In the opening two episodes of “Homeland” Season 6, an ample number of suspicious storylines emerge for a series built on spycraft: Carrie (Claire Danes) is working out of New York for Otto During, the billionaire philanthropist introduced last season in Berlin. But is she there for the right reasons? Is he? Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is still working closely with Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), as the two vet the new President-Elect (Elizabeth Marvel) for the CIA. Yet her true motivations — personal and political — are kept in the dark, at least to the two men looking for the light. Meanwhile, a young black Muslim named Sekou Bah (newcomer J. Mallory McCree) is busy recording passionate videos chronicling terrorist attacks around New York City. Is he a legitimate terrorist threat or just a politically active kid?
Oh, and in case anyone cares, the Quinn question hanging...

Dining out can be dangerous.
So Frank (Tom Selleck) discovered after having dinner with Angelo Gallo (guest star Chazz Palminteri) -- a boyhood friend who happened to be a Mob lawyer -- in Friday's (Nov. 15) "Blue Bloods" episode "Justice Served," written by series co-executive producer Siobhan Byrne O'Connor. The men left the restaurant jovially, but right after Frank's car pulled away, the attorney was felled by two bullets to the back.
Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) was getting a taste of another side of the law by serving jury duty. Young defendant Deshawn Williams (J. Mallory-McCree) was on trial for the murder of a deli cashier, and when the jurors went into deliberation, only one held out for a "not guilty" verdict. Guess who?

We haven't heard a peep about Recreator in well over a year, but tonight we have an update. The film is now called Cloned: The Recreator Chronicles (we're told the title has to be in all caps) and it's now arriving on April 23rd.
Directed by Gregory Orr, the film concerns Tracy, Craig, and Derek (Stella Maeve, Alexander Nifong, and Jamal Mallory-McCree) who, while on a camping trip, stumble upon an abandoned laboratory and accidentally trigger a deadly experiment that creates their clones - superior duplicates who plot to kill the kids and take over their identities. Trapped by their captors, the teenagers discover they are no match for their physically stronger, faster, better selves. Their only hope is to unlock the secrets of the Recreator - the scientist behind the experiments - and escape with their lives before they are replaced.

They look like you. They act like you. And they want to kill you. Welcome to Recreator, the sci-fi thriller from writer/director Gregory Orr "about three teenage friends who accidentally trigger a deadly experiment that creates their duplicates--clones who are faster, stronger, and smarter than the original kids and who threaten to kill them and take over their identity." Starring Stella Maeve (The Runaways, "My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2), Alexander Nifong ("Glee"), Jamal Mallory-McCree and John De Lancie ("Star Trek: The Next Generation"), the film already has a sequel in development that will put Orr back behind cameras. Check out the trailer and stills inside. More at Facebook or the film's official website.

Imagine a horror movie without blood, guts, gore, vampires or ghouls—or even a psycho on the loose. Doesn’t sound like your typical scare fare, does it? We do, however, have three teenagers on a camping trip in the woods, and there is a cabin. Does this seems a bit more familiar? Well, yes and no. The threesome do encounter three monsters in the woods…but in Recreator, they happen to be literal duplicates of the story’s young lead characters—Tracy (Stella Maeve), Craig (Alexander Nifong) and Derek (Jamal Mallory-McCree)—only far superior in every way. Where did these clones come from? One creepy suggestion is for sure: We can all be replaced!
