Abby Garrett and Will Freeman left “The Amazing Race 34” in the cruelest of ways: not even racing. The childhood sweethearts were forced to drop out in Wednesday’s episode after Will tested positive for Covid-19. Phil Keoghan formally delivered the news to them via a Zoom call in front of the remaining seven teams before the start of the fifth leg. The couple had been racing well until then, finishing third on the Mega Leg and fourth on Leg 4.
We caught up with the pair to discuss this unfortunate twist of fate, how they think they would’ve done on the leg and more.
Gold Derby: That was a brutal way to go out. When did you first find out that you had tested positive?
Abby: It was the day before the leg. I remember we found out he was positive that night, had the ugly tears, and then the...

The Amazing Race 34 released its cast list, and there are a lot of fun duos that fans will get to watch this fall on CBS.
It was revealed in June that a new group of competitors had begun their race around the world, but we only had rumors to go off of when it came to the names of the cast members.
As expected, the official cast list for Amazing Race 34 includes a Big Brother showmance that seems geared toward doing well on the reality competition show.
Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss from Big Brother 23 started a relationship while they were both living in the jury house, and then they took that right into dating in the real world when the season ended.

'About a Boy,' with Hugh Grant and Baby 'About a Boy' movie review: Some men should remain islands On the surface, Chris and Paul Weitz's 2002 movie About a Boy has a profound, affecting premise. No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. With the above statement, seventeenth-century English poet John Donne reached beyond the apparent isolation of each individual by affirming the invisible oneness that encompasses all of humankind – and, why not, all living creatures.

Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially -- and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after...

The peacock network doesn't want quite as much of About a Boy. Deadline is reporting that NBC has trimmed the sitcom's second season from 22 to 20 episodes.
About a Boy has been really struggling this season and it seems very likely to be cancelled by spring. It's currently averaging a 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic with 4.15 million viewers. That's down 36-40% when compared to last year's figures.

The fall TV season is just kicking off and it’s time to begin crafting a weekly TV-viewing schedule that fits your needs, genre preferences, and tastes, and that hopefully includes something old, something new, and something that’s been around for a while that you’ve been meaning to check out. Following up on Sound on Sight’s coverage of the fall’s new network series, contributor Claire Hellar will be recommending her top choices, by genre, of the networks’ returning shows.
These may be competitive days for sitcoms, but the fall season is nonetheless dishing up a good blend of sophomore gems and long-running veterans in the comedy slot. Here are my choices.

It's almost September, which means a whole new slew of titles on Netflix! August proved pretty lucrative on the quality title front, but it looks as though September it's going to blow the rundown out of the water.
TV takes spotlight this month, with the latest full seasons of "The Walking Dead," "New Girl," "The League," "The Blacklist," "Arrow," "Bones," and "Parks and Recreation" primed and ready for streaming before their fall premieres. And fans still mourning the loss of "How I Met Your Mother" (in more ways than one) can rewatch the ninth and final season to their heart's content. Ah, memories. Showtime's recently departed "Californication" can be seen in its entirety (Seasons 1 -7) as well, starting September 1. That's a lot of TV.
Movie fans have plenty to look forward to from Netflix in September, too. Sam Raimi's undersung 1998 thriller "A Simple Plan" hits the streaming service September...

David Walton recently appeared on "Parenthood" as Will Freeman, his songwriter character from new NBC comedy "About a Boy." Both shows are created by Jason Katims, who tells the 2014 TCA winter press tour that the crossovers are only natural because they're set in the same area.
"I think just because both shows are set in San Francisco and the Bay area, it sort of makes sense that there would be [crossovers]," says Katims. "... because Will is in the world of music and Crosby's in the world of music, it made sense to me."
Walton's recent turn on "Parenthood" revolved around a poker game, which is the way that "Parenthood" will be crossing over to "About a Boy" as well, initially.
"It turns out in 'About a Boy,' Will also has his own poker game, so Dax Shepard will be making an appearance as Crosby Braverman," says Katims.
