Twentieth Century Fox Film’s family division has nabbed the rights to the young-adult science-fiction novel “The Prom Goer’s Interstellar Excursion.”
The Knopf title, published in 2015, was written by author Chris McCoy, who will adapt his own work for the screen. The novel follows Bennett, a teen who lands his dream girl Sophie as a date to the prom, only to see her abducted by aliens in the middle of the New Mexico desert before the big dance. He hitches a ride to outer space with some eccentric musicians, as one does.
Vanessa Morrison, Nate Hopper, and Rachel Yeung are overseeing for Fox Family. Chernin Entertainment will produce the pic.
The project is one of many being ushered into development or production before Disney gets the keys to the Fox lot as the owner of the historic studio’s film and TV assets. In addition to movies from Ryan Reynolds...

Coming-of-age films, especially those about transitioning from the goldfish bowl of high school to the unchecked freedom of college, are a genre unto themselves. Some of the best, such as Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused” and James Pondsolt’s “The Spectacular Now,” capture the bittersweet evolution of young life, frozen in a moment of time. Chris McCoy’s “Good Kids,” examines this specific point of change by following the misadventures a group of straight-and-narrow teens who decide to cram four years worth of partying, sex and drugs into one summer before heading off to college.

"It should be us together!" Vertical Entertainment has released a trailer for the ensemble comedy Good Kids, about four high school kids looking to redefine themselves after graduation. This cheesy sex comedy is about a bunch of kids trying to figure out what to do with themselves after they get out of school, mostly who to hook up with. Starring Zoey Deutch, Nicholas Braun, Israel Broussard, Mateo Arias, Julia Garner, Ashley Judd and Demián Bichir. I'm sure we all know this, but Zoey Deutch looks a lot like Isla Fisher, though doesn't seem nearly as funny. This doesn't look that good, but if you're curious give it a shot. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Chris McCoy's Good Kids, direct from YouTube: Good Kids follows four overachieving high school students who, upon graduating, realize that they’ve missed out on key life experiences by always following the rules.

Hollywood — You might not have heard the name Nicole Perlman much as it pertains to Marvel properties, but she's a big reason why "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be making its way to theaters next weekend. She toiled away as a screenwriter for a few years after her days at Nyu, cooking up projects with a science bent because that's where her passions lie — projects like "Challenger," a fascinating account of the investigation of the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster written as a love letter to Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. Then, she made her way to the comic book giant under the company's now-defunct screenwriting program and plucked the intergalactic heroes from obscurity, setting them on a crash course for the silver screen. It may be largely James Gunn's colorful vision on that screen, but it's definitely Perlman's passion that helped bring the property to the table in the first place.

Why Watch? Tackling life’s big questions without a helmet, The Bicycle from Chris McCoy and Adam Neustadter does a fantastic job of imbuing an inanimate object with humanity and pathos. Part of that is due to the writing, which nails down the poor bike’s existential crises with poetic confidence and a distaste for cliche, but a big factor is Matthew Waterson, who voices the two-wheeled hero. His smashed-whiskey-bottle voice brings a heaviness to everything that balances the high-minded philosophy and blends with the absolutely pristine cinematography. Calling a bicycle world-weary seemed strange before seeing this short, but it’s true. This bike has seen some shit. A gripping urban overture, McCoy and Neustadter have taken a silly concept and transformed it into something profound. And probably profoundly silly. What Will It Cost? About 7 minutes. A New Short Film Every Weekday...

Last week, early reports surfaced that Bradley Cooper had entered negotiations with Marvel to lend his voice for James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.

With production very much underway here in the UK on Marvel and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the biggest question mark still surrounding the project has of course been who will be taking on the role of Rocket Raccoon.
Vin Diesel recently revealed that he’d joined the project to lend his voice as Groot, the tree-like sentient being in the upcoming space-bound superhero blockbuster, which will fall directly before Avengers: Age of Ultron come 2014. And that left just one last spot left on the main roster of the Guardians: Rocket Raccoon.
Now Latino Review and The Wrap are reporting that the increasingly-prominent, ever-brilliant Bradley Cooper is in talks to voice the character, with an offer reportedly on the table from Marvel.

Call this three for three for screenwriter Chris McCoy. His screenplay for Get Back, about two obsessive Beatles fans that travel through time to stop John Lennon from ever meeting Yoko Ono, hit the Black List and was then optioned by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Then in 2009, another Black List script – Good Looking, about a futuristic dating service that finds a foolproof, perfect match for every person on Earth – that was then picked up by Dreamworks and Double Feature Films. Now McCoy’s third Black List screenplay, 2011′s Good Kids, may be the first one to actually be made into a feature film. Deadline reports that McCoy will be helming the film as a first-time director, and that Nicholas Braun (of the upcoming zombie/vampire/alien mash-up The Kitchen Sink) will star alongside Jane Levy (Evil Dead). Good Kids will be about four unpopular high school overachievers (two of which, we can assume are Braun and Levy) who...

Deadline has learned that Nicholas Braun and Jane Levy have signed on for the film and that McCoy is now attached to helm - which will make it his feature directorial debut. Good Kids is actually one of three scripts that McCoy has landed on The Black List, but as of yet none of them have actually been turned into films (in 2007 he landed a screenplay called Get Back and in 2009 it was one titled Good Looking). The superhero film's plot remains under wraps, although Joss Whedon has confirmed that the cast of The Avengers will not feature.
Karen Gillan has been confirmed as one of the film's major villains, while Glenn Close will play the leader of the Nova Corps, a body of intergalactic police officers.
Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker and John C Reilly will also star.
The film will be directed by James Gunn, with the screenplay written by Nicole Perlman, Chris McCoy and Gunn.

[Updated] Casting on James Gunn’s anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy has been coming together very nicely in recent weeks and months, with the blockbuster set to launch a new set of heroes as the penultimate film in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Falling directly before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2 on Marvel’s slate, the film has been assembling an absolutely stellar cast. And now Deadline are confirming something we heard a couple weeks back, that John C. Reilly had been offered a part in the movie.
Reilly is now officially set to play Rhomann Dey, the leader of the Nova Corps in the 2014 tentpole.

Principal photography is inching ever closer for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and that has meant that we’ve had some terrific casting news for the penultimate film in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent weeks.
Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan was the latest to come on board, taking the role of the lead female villain in the upcoming blockbuster.

Jackson boarded the franchise with Iron Man.

It’s a right old Doctor Who-adjacent news day today. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has been abuzz with casting news and rumours in recent months, and it’s been awesome to see such a diverse range of names in the mix for the various leading roles.
Chris Pratt was the first to officially come on board, signing on for the lead of Peter Quill / Star-Lord, the offspring of an alien father and a human mother.
Since then, we’ve heard that Zoe Saldana is circling the role of Gamora; Dave Bautista is set to play Drax; Michael Rooker is set to play Yondu; and Lee Pace and Ophelia Lovibond are set for as-yet-unknown roles.

James Gunn's "Guardians Of The Galaxy" promises to be one of the strangest of the Marvel movies so far, and that excites me. Drew Pearce, who collaborated with Shane Black on the "Iron Man 3" script, was almost hired to work on the final polish for this film, but it looks like Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will be doing the final polish on the script that Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoy wrote instead. Quick side note… is Perlman the first female writer on a Marvel movie? In a lot of ways, Marvel is treating "Guardians" as the beachhead for a...

Best known for his role in AMC’s The Walking Dead, Michael Rooker has now boarded next year’s immensely anticipated blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Director James Gunn and Rooker have worked together in the past, most notably in Gunn’s first two features, Slither and Super. And after a few months of speculation that Rooker would be cast in the upcoming Marvel movie, it’s finally been confirmed, with Rooker taking the role of Yondu.
Courtesy of Marvel:
Yondu Udonta was a game hunter of the primitive Zatoan tribe, which were humanoid beings who were native to Centauri IV. The first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system; the colonization took place sometime during the 29th century.
Yondu was a founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, in a different variant to the version we’re expecting to see Gunn bring to the big screen next year.

Brian Michael Bendis, writer of Marvel's current "Guardians Of The Galaxy" comic book series, revealed his impressions of Marvel Studio's upcoming 3D "Guardians Of The Galaxy" feature, to be directed by James Gunn:
"Here's the cool thing about the 'Guardians'," said Bendis. "There are a lot of fantastical elements, like 'Rocket Raccoon' and 'Groot'.
"I mean, initially you go, 'hey, that's pretty funny.' But what surprises you is how much you end up caring about them.
"The movie may not seem like an obvious choice on the surface, but once you see what the plan is, you will say 'oh yeah, I totally see that.'
"...almost every Marvel comic is a sci-fi comic. It all feels to me on some level like science fiction, but my favorite kind of science fiction is the character stuff.

With its Summer 2014 release date putting it directly before The Avengers 2 in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has so much anticipation surrounding it, for so many reasons.
The film is the first and only original film in Phase Two, following Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Chris Pratt was the first to come on board in the role of Peter Quill / Star-Lord back in February. And he was soon followed by Dave Bautista, joining the cast as Drax the Destroyer.
Now THR report that Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) is in talks for Guardians of the Galaxy. If all goes well, then she’ll be taking the female lead, Gamora, a green-skinned humanoid who is the last of her species, which was destroyed by the Badoon.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most anticipated comic book movies currently in development, for so many reasons. Guardians of the Galaxy will take place largely in space, according to Marvel Comics president Kevin Feige.
The upcoming Marvel adaptation, which focuses on a group of alien superheroes, will be helmed by Super director James Gunn and will star Chris Pratt as Star-Lord.
"The Thor film and the Guardians of the Galaxy film certainly are cosmic," Feige told SFX. "Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space."
Jason Momoa, who starred in 2011's Conan the Barbarian, is in talks to play Drax the Destroyer.
Penned by James Gunn (Super) and first-time writers Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman, the film will begin shooting in June.

Actor Chris Pratt will play Star-Lord in the new film based on Marvel Comics "Guardians of the Galaxy" (vol. 2) #1 (May 2008), created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, that adapted the first "Guardians of The Galaxy" concept by writer Arnold Drake and illustrator Gene Colan (1969), with Star-Lord leading a team that includes 'Drax the Destroyer', 'Gamora', 'Groot' and 'Rocket Raccoon' :

We brought you the news back in August when Marvel Studios hired writer Chris McCoy to pen the script for their forthcoming big-screen adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy, based off of an original draft written by Nicole Perlman, and that James Gunn was getting set to direct.
But rumors have been running rampant since the title was first announced at last summer’s Comic-Con about who might be cast to play the lead character Star-Lord. Names tossed about included Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln and The Hobbit), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), and most recently, Zachary Levi and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Now Deadline is reporting that the role is being filled by Chris Pratt of Zero Dark Thirty and Parks and Recreation. Whether Levi has independent information or he just read the same thing we did, he did tweet this:

The search is over. Marvel have found their lead in Chris Pratt for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The highly anticipated movie marks the first original feature in the studio’s upcoming Phase Two, which kicks off with Iron Man 3 this spring.
In recent months, we’d heard reports that the studio had been testing the likes of Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne, and more for the role. Then came the possibility that Joseph Gordon-Levitt might come on board. But when Gordon-Levitt opted to take on the lead for Sin City: A Dame to Kill, we were back to square one.
But now Deadline are reporting that Pratt has been given the role, taking the human lead as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians, and the offspring of a human mother and an alien father.

We’ve had a lot of casting rumors about Guardians Of The Galaxy, especially for the lead role of Star-Lord, and to a lesser extent, Drax the Destroyer.
This newest rumor involves Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler possibly lending their respective talents to the film. This has led to the obvious speculation that both are being looked at as the voice for Rocket Raccoon, clearly a source of comedy in the film. The idea has met some backlash, but even if they don’t wanna go for straight comedy, both Carrey and Sandler have proved their acting chops. I’d prefer Alan Tudyk, but that’s just me.
Apparently, you can also add three names to the mix of Star-Lord, which is getting to be ridiculously long. The names are lower key than the previous ones attached to Peter Quill, and are as follows: Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Chris Lowell (The Help,...
