Apple has ordered a series adaptation of the “Amber Brown” books by Paula Danziger, Variety has learned.
Bonnie Hunt is set to write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner on the adaptation. Carsyn Rose will star in the title role, with Sarah Drew, Darin Brooks, and Liliana Inouye (“The Slows”) also attached.
“Amber Brown” is an unfiltered look at a girl finding her own voice through art and music in the wake of her parents’ divorce. Amber Brown (Rose) is an everykid who is going through what many children experience, and making sense of her new family dynamic through her sketches and video diary. Drew stars as Amber’s mother, Sarah Brown. Brooks will play Max and Inouye will play Brandi Colwin.

Put out by Wild Eye Releasing, Scary Stories peaked my interest because I’m a huge fan of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and horror novels, including those from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and also including those aimed at young readers. Whether it was Scary Stories, Point Horror or other dark tales, there’s something about children’s horror fiction from days gone by that is really nostalgic to me, and some of it is really enjoyable too. The teen classic, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, though (which will soon see an adaptation produced by Guillermo Del Toro), has to be one of the pinnacles and most well-loved of the genre, and this documentary explores it, with interviews and history about the books,...

The first trailer for “Doom: Annihilation,” the latest live-action adaptation of the popular first-person shooter, is out in the wild.
An NBC/Universal spokesperson told Variety the new “Doom” is being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment, which produces live-action and animated non-theatrical productions directly for distribution in all media worldwide. That means the film may be direct-to-dvd, or it could possibly appear on a digital platform like Netflix. Universal 1440’s other projects currently include the latest “Tremors” movie, a “Death Race” sequel, and an adaptation of Bruce Coville’s sci-fi classic “Aliens Ate My Homework.”
Bloody Disgusting reports that the upcoming film, written and directed by Tony Giglio, stars Amy Manson (“Atlantis”), Dominic Mafham (“Ophelia”), Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”), and Nina Bergman (“The Car: Road to Revenge”) with Lorenzo di Bonaventura of “Transformers” producing. “Animal Kingdom’s” John Wells is also on board as executive producer.

In today’s film news roundup, the Writers Guild will keep blasting away at major talent agencies, Universal promotes four execs and Jennifer E. Smith sets up a pair of Ya projects.
WGA Battle
The Writers Guild of America will release a report Tuesday detailing its assertions of conflicts of interest at CAA, Wme, UTA and ICM Partners.
The report is titled “No Conflict, No Interest.” “As industry profits have soared, billions in outside investment has flowed into the biggest talent agencies that have become singularly focused on expanding their bottom line, often at the expense of the clients,” the WGA said.
The WGA has been seeking to revamp the rules of engagement for agents with WGA members with changes that would effectively end all film and TV packaging deals, in which agencies receive both upfront and backend fees, and bar agencies from any financial interest in any entity or...

William Shatner has a new film coming out called Aliens Ate My Homework and today he introduces the first trailer for it. The movie is based on the book series by Bruce Coville, and Shatner explains that he plays an "intrepid intergalactic adventurer known as Phil the Plant."
The movie is based on the first book in the Rod Allbright and the Galactic Patrol series and the story follows two middle school students looking for an alien outlaw hiding on Earth. Obviously, the studio is hoping to produce a series of films based on this property. The whole thing looks silly, but it seems like something the kids will enjoy.
Aliens Ate My Homework is a suspenseful family comedy which follows the adventures of sixth-grader Rod Allbright (Greig) and the extraterrestrial lawmen known as the Galactic Patrol. When a tiny spaceship flies through his window and lands on his science project,...

Maniac Cop 2 Shirts and Pins Collection: From Cavitycolors: "Hey Fiends!
This Thursday, we're bringing you our officially licensed Maniac Cop 2 collection!
Written by Larry Cohen (The Stuff) and directed by William Lustig (Maniac), Part 2 of the series is my personal favorite entry in the series. A 90's cult classic in the truest sense, it's just so satisfying to see a much more monstrous Matt Cordell wreak havoc on the streets of New York City. We couldn't be more excited to work with top notch artists on this release, including Devon Whitehead, Jason Edmiston, Shane Murphy, and Matt Skiff. All art is officially licensed, and approved by William Lustig himself for what might...
