Maatr
Starring Raveena Tandon, Madhur Mittal, Anurag Arora
Directed by Ashtar Sayed
A raucous raga on the aftermath of rape, much of Maatr unfolds in a stern humourless no-nonsense manner of a fact-finding newshound who won’t go into digressions—because the film’s heroine knows what one wrong turn can do– just to keep the audience’s perception lightened.Which is for the best, really. In India we can’t afford to laugh about rape the way the French could in the film Elle.
MaatrMaatr aims to do. It strips the act of rape of all its filmy glamour and titillating trappings to portray the agony of a woman who watches her minor daughter gangraped, after she is raped herself. The two are then dumped on the side of the Highway by the seven wayward sons of influential dads, nocturnal animals who belong in hell. Provided the over-crowded address...

With her upcoming project Maatr, Raveena is going to be seen in a fierce avatar, ready to seek redemption against the system and corrupt individuals.
As the title of the film speaks about a mother, it holds a lot of meaning in itself. A mother can go to any extent to protect her child. Commenting on the same, Raveena said, “Without revealing much, I can definitely tell you that it is a very thought provoking film. The character I’m playing is of a mother and about a family that undergoes something that is horrifying”.
Hard-hitting films often leave an impact on actors. Talking about her experience while shooting for Maatr, Raveena said, “I have shot this on reel, but believe me I was disturbed for days together. I can only imagine, of the living nightmare that a victim and their family goes through and the brutality they have to...

We have a look at the trailer of the film Maatr and honestly it is heart wrenching. The film features the brilliant Raveena Tandon and revolves around the story of a mother fighting to get justice for her deceased daughter.
Tandon’s role transitions from a helpless mother to a powerful woman. A woman who is abandoned by not only the judicial system, but also her own husband, takes matters into her own hands and gets ready to seek revenge!
Commenting on the trailer, Raveena said, “I am so excited that the trailer is finally out for people to see. I have given this film everything and it has been an emotionally draining yet fulfilling experience. Seeing how much the trailer is being appreciated is overwhelming.”
It’s great to see Raveena play such an unconventional yet fierce character and we can’t wait to see more!!

Ashtar Sayed’s Bijuka (meaning “scarecrow”) is a compelling Indian film with a strong point of view regarding the high number of rapes occurring in the country. Unfortunately, while the message comes across loud and clear, the execution manages to be both dull and highly traumatizing for the viewer. Its purpose is reached at a high cost.
The film follows the story of a newlywed couple during their short time together. Lalli (Arti Rautela) is told she must obey and take care of her new husband and in-laws above anyone or anything else. Painku (Amit Purohit) talks with his friends about all his supposed conquests. When their first night together arrives, Painku shows no physical interest in Lalli. That continues night after night while Lalli is treated like the family's slave who can do nothing right. After some time, she tries to seduce him but is only called names and abused for her actions.
