Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe and Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You dominated the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Monday.
Small Axe clinched five wins, the most on a night that celebrated behind-the-scenes craftspeople, but it was I May Destroy You that secured two of the biggest gongs for Coel: Director: Diction, and Writer: Drama. The BBC/HBO series was also victorious in the Editing: Fiction category.
Coel, who beat McQueen in the directing category alongside co-director Sam Miller, accepted her writing win. “I would like to thank every draft. There are hundreds of them, each living only briefly and sacrificing themselves so the version we watched that won this BAFTA could exist,” she said.
BBC/Amazon series Small Axe’s prizes included JoJo Williams for Make Up & Hair Design; Jacqueline Durran for Costume Design; Helen Scott for Production Design; Shabier Kirchner for Photography & Lighting: Fiction; and Gary Davy for Scripted Casting.

When the TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine first hit the scene, what was initially most impressive was the star-studded cast including Andre Braugher, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews and more. But you cannot mention the show without the image of bombshell, Stephanie Beatriz, permeating your mind. Beatriz plays the role of Detective Rosa Diaz. Even when she was on Modern Family, Diaz has captivated the male audience. As with most celebrities, there are always some hidden facts that most of their fans are completely oblivious to. Well, Beatriz is no different in that regard. Following are five things you probably did not

Even though the funny cop genre has been done time and time again, the officers of the Nine-Nine keep finding ways to make it original. A great cast led by former Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine brings Samberg’s goofy brand of awkward comedy to the NYPD.
The popular Fox comedy has been renewed for a fifth season reports, Coming Soon. The show, which is set at a precinct in Brooklyn, New York, deals with the daily procedures of what looks to be the most fun a person could have inside a police station.
Officially led by the strict and very dry Captain Raymond Holt, and unofficially misled by the childish, Die Hard-loving detective, Jake Peralta, the other officers in the Nine-Nine precinct somehow manage to get work done while putting up with Peralta’s antics.

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s much anticipated fourth season finally airing on E4, spare a thought for those who have never experienced the joys of this quick-witted, warm hearted cop comedy series. It’s hard to imagine a world without the Die Hard-loving, authority challenging Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) or his food-loving best friend Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio). Where would we be without the egotistical wisdoms of Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti), the relentless brown nosing and binder collating of Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) and the weapon-wielding human enigma that is Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz)?

Some thoughts on tonight's Brooklyn Nine-Nine/New Girl crossover — and why it only occasionally lived up to the idea of being a crossover — coming up just as soon as we watch five full seasons of The A-Team together... There are two basic types of TV crossover: 1)When the shows share a creative team and/or universe, and 2)When the network and/or studio wants to make it happen. The first tend to involve spin-offs, from Richie and Fonzie running into Laverne and Shirley at a dude ranch to Green Arrow going to Central City to enlist the Flash's help, and they're generally more natural, though they can also be clunky. (The Berlanti crossovers often seem to be made under the belief that the same people are watching all of the shows, when varying ratings levels suggest otherwise.) Though there are some strong examples of the second — notably the Homicide/Law & Order crossovers,...

Jake Peralta, meet Jess Day. Nick Miller, babble on to your heart's content in front of Captain Holt. Schmidt, good luck flirting with Rosa Diaz. A New Girl/Brooklyn Nine-Nine crossover is in the works. Fox announced today that characters from the two Tuesday comedies would meet in back-to-back episodes airing October 11 at 8 & 8:30 p.m. There aren't any details yet beyond the fact that the crossover will take place in New York, which raises the possibility that Coach might appear. Here are the showrunners of each: Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor: “Brooklyn Nine-nine crossing over with New Girl is very exciting, but (and this is supposed to be a secret) it’s just the first step. Stay tuned for our two casts to do a soulful R&B number on Empire, co-anchor the Fox 10 O’Clock News and connect for a touchdown on Fox NFL Sunday. But in all seriousness,...

Ever since we saw the pilot episode of Jane the Virgin – and instantly started following the entire cast's Instagram – we've had a massive friend crush on Gina Rodriguez, the show's charismatic protagonist.
Judging by Rodriguez's social media – which we may or may not spend perusing every day – she seems just as kind, funny and (duh) beautiful as Jane.
Ok, enough gushing. Let us present 10 pieces of scientific proof that corroborate our thesis: Gina Rodriguez is unequivocally the best.
1. She shaved off a third of her head and still looks as fly and fierce as ever.

Det. Rosa Diaz can’t help it if she’s attracted to total creeps, and so she can’t help herself in front of Nine-Nine newcomer Adrian Pimento. Weird, hardcore love is in the air tonight on Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and based on the exclusive clip above, TheWrap can’t help but wonder how many takes were needed to keep straight faces on Stephanie Beatriz and guest star Jason Mantzoukas. This evening, their characters seem poised to sprout a very torrid — and very doomed — sexual tryst. All this over some police precinct paperwork. Also Read: Fox, Andy Samberg to...

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Not many comedy series, even some of the greatest of all time, start as strongly as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The cop comedy is the funniest Us import of 2014, bringing big belly laughs and an ensemble cast that have a true spark and chemistry.
On paper it may sound like a very traditional workplace comedy with the usual tropes of will-they won't-they office romances and rivalries, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine installs the format with a colourful array of characters, silly stakeouts and brilliant cameos (Craig Robinson, in particular) so that it feels utterly fresh and original.
Andy Samberg was already well known for his work on Saturday Night Live, hilarious comedy group The Lonely Island and underrated BBC Three series Cuckoo, but in Brooklyn Nine-Nine he takes on the leading man role as the cocky, infantile and gloriously daft Jake Peralta.

Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 10 by Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly. The pundits and critics have come to a consensus on the most likely nominees out of the numerous television shows on the air: a showdown between Breaking Bad and True Detective in Best Drama Series, Modern Family accruing a number of nominations at the cost of other comedy series. But what about the long shots? These performers and series would make deserving nominees, but for various reasons, are not expected to hear their names called. Here are five dream nominations in each of the major Comedy categories.
(Note: I only considered a nominee a long shot if it was actually submitted to that category. For example, I could not select Bob’s Burgers as Best Comedy Series, since it was submitted in the Animation categories instead. I also considered nominees only in the category they were submitted; for example,...
