Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What’s the most memorable death — scripted please! — you’ve seen on TV? It could be disturbing, crazy, heartbreaking, etc. Old and current shows fair game.

I can’t seem to scrape the death of Charlie in the Season 3 finale of “Lost” from my mind — I can remember every part of that scene so many years later. There was something about the way the scene was written and shot that was just perfect, and even though it was the perfect time to say goodbye to the character, it was still hard to let him go. Charlie died a hero, dudes. Driveshaft forever!

Officials said algae is to blame for water in the Rio Olympics diving pool that turned from a crystal blue to a murky green overnight. Olympians, fans and officials alike were left scratching their heads when they saw the change in the water color at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center on Tuesday, but officials said in a statement that the transformation is due to a "proliferation of algae" - and poses no risk to athletes, Fox News reports. "This was because of heat and a lack of wind," spokesman Mario Andrada told Fox. "We did all the chemical tests." Officials...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for several different television shows. If you're especially averse to these sorts of things, you may want to look away. You've been warned. It used to be that when a TV show wanted to surprise its audience, really throw them for a loop with a plot twist they never saw coming, they just wrote it into their script and waited for the thing to air. When Dallas shot J.R., or L.A. Law threw Rosalind Shays down an empty elevator shaft, or ER had Lucy Knight stabbed and killed by a deranged patient, they just did the damn thing and until the scene hit the screen, audiences were none the wiser. It was, as they say, a simpler time. But that was then and this is now. In our...

Recently, romance anthologies have made a little bit of comeback with former DC editor Janelle Asselin’s Fresh Romance title and even little one-shots like the Harley Quinn Valentines Special and 2013’s revival of the classic DC series Young Romance. Now, Marvel has gotten into the romance game with Secret Wars: Secret Love bringing a variety of Marvel veterans and newcomers to tell some fun love stories. There is an homage to Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr’s run on Daredevil complete with a battle against Typhoid Mary, a special team-up between Robbie Reyes and Kamala Khan in the Ghost Racers universe, an extremely non-traditional date night...

When I was growing up, Thursdays were reserved for one — and only one — network: NBC.
Those were the glory years of Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, Law & Order and my mom’s favorite, ER. Thursdays were the nights that made me love TV — the one night everyone talked about the afternoon before and the morning after (the death of Dr. Lucy Knight, anyone?).
However, that time is long gone, as NBC eventually became the fourth-place broadcast network, falling behind CBS, ABC and Fox. What will you find tonight on NBC? The special Saturday Night Live: Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday, Up All Night, The Office, Parks and Recreation and Rock Center with Brian Williams. None of these shows cracked NBC’s top 10 highest-rated shows in the 2011-2012 TV season. The situation doesn’t appear to be improving, either: The premieres of The Office and...

The Sopranos - Silvio kills Adrianna
Christopher’s fiancée Adriana was done for the moment she was caught in a trap and became a rat and then stupidly told Christ all about it, begging him to run away with her. In a haunting scene we saw a screaming Adrianna being dragged into the woods by Silvio, who had lured her there by claiming Christopher had tried to commit suicide. The last we saw of her, she was desperately crawling away. Then we heard two gunshots and knew it was...bye bye.
Right up to when the deed was done, some viewers hoped Tony ‘The Man’ Soprano would stop the hit because he was fond of her,...

Forget slashing tires. You can trick a cheating ex into thinking he has an Std... or worse. Lucy Knight on the strange, and often murky, market for cybervengeance.
Vengeance is generally very personal. There's the jilted lover who slashes an ex's tires in the middle of the night; or the disgruntled employee who sneaks toilet water into his or her boss' tea. That said, it doesn't mean you couldn't use a little help posting elephant droppings, or tricking an ex into thinking s/he has an Std.

Lucky for those who don't believe that "revenge is a dish best served cold," it seems that it has never been easier, with the Internet offering a variety of services to exact some payback.

What is Kellie Martin’s iconic role? The star of tonight’s The Jensen Project (tragically unrelated to EW’s own Doc Jensen) has had some distinctive characters, but depending on your age, odds are one has stuck with you a lot more. Generation X or older? You probably still see her in giganto glasses as Becca Thatcher on Life Goes On. Gen Y, or whatever less catchy term means “younger than Gen X”? You can’t see her without screaming “don’t get stabbed!” for in some sense, she will always be ER’s Lucy Knight. A little younger and a bit squarer,...

The May 6, 2004 finale of Friends aired just five years ago, but it might as well have been from some bygone era spoken of only with wistful sighs. According to The Hollywood Reporter, some 52.5 million people tuned in to watch Ross and Rachel re-re-rekindle their romance while Monica and Chandler moved out of their impossibly sweet Manhattan pad, making it the most-watched regular TV episode of the aughts. (Or the 2000s. Or the 2Ks. Or the what-have-yous.) The list is actually a bit skewed, since no show was allowed to repeat -- otherwise, at the least a few more American Idol...
