Propelled by rocket fuel, ego and tunnel vision, Eugene Cernan was the last man to walk on the moon. Now a new film tells his amazing story, from the crash that charred his helmet to the ‘spacewalk from hell’
Eugene Cernan has felt the white heat of re-entry three times. “The landing,” says the astronaut, understandably animated by the memory, “is like being immersed in a sheet of fire, a comet, a shooting star.” Cernan, alongside crewmates Thomas Stafford and John Young, has also travelled faster than any human being in history: Apollo 10 at one point reached 24,791mph, earning it a mention in the Guinness Book of Records.

When it comes to sci-fi movies, Gene Cernan, 81, isn't a big fan. After all, the guy hasn't even gotten around to watching Stanley Kubrick's 1968 classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. And yet, he admits that he "loved" The Martian, especially the scene where Best Actor nominee Matt Damon's character staves off disaster by his ingenious use of duct tape. Then again, it's probably no wonder Cernan got a kick out of Ridley Scott's space epic - especially since he once used duct tape to repair a busted fender on the lunar rover during his last voyage to the moon in 1972. The Inhumans are coming to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and we’re about to get to know a particular one pretty well. As first reported by Marvel.com, The Tomorrow People‘s Luke Mitchell has been cast to play an Inhuman in ABC’s Marvel series when it returns from hiatus in March. According to Marvel, Mitchell will make play “a charismatic Inhuman named Lincoln, who has an important role to play in Skye understanding the true extent of her transformation.” “With the revelations surrounding Skye’s true identity in the Winter Finale, we knew we’d be introducing more Inhumans as our story progressed,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Marvel Television and an executive producer on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “The charming energy Luke brings to the role will make him a character to watch as we continue our season.” As mentioned above, Mitchell is most well-known in America...

A couple days ago we reported that The Tomorrow People‘s Robbie Amell had found a new home on the CW’s high anticipated fall series, The Flash, and now another former Tomorrow People star has also moved on – even if fans have not. Luke Mitchell, who played John Young on the short-lived CW supernatural drama, has just been cast in ABC’s mid-season drama series, Members Only.
The new show, formerly titled The Club, will center around a private country club. Mitchell will play Jesse, a character from the wrong side of the tracks who was recently employed at the club and although he’ll appears to be a little rough around the edges, he actually has his life together.
Along with Mitchell, Members Only stars Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), Boris Kodjoe (Undercovers), Callie Hernandez (From Dusk Till Dawn), Chris Conroy, and newly cast Jaime Lee Kirchner (Mercy). Kirchner...

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott raised global hopes of a potential break in the search for missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 on Thursday, reporting that his country had sighted two large objects floating in the southern Indian Ocean. The largest of the two objects spotted by satellite was estimated to be about 79 feet in length and the other about 15 feet, John Young, of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, told reporters at news conference in Canberra, Australia's capital. He added that the debris appears to be in an area of water several thousand feet deep. Video: Family Members of Missing

Four military search planes were dispatched Thursday to determine whether two large objects bobbing in a remote part of the Indian Ocean are debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight. The search for the objects could take time and Australian authorities said one of the planes was unable to locate the debris through clouds and rain, but that other planes would continue the hunt. One of the objects spotted by satellite imagery was almost 80 feet in length and the other was 15 feet. There could be other objects in the area, a four-hour flight from Australia's southwestern coast, said John Young,...

Debris potentially from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 plane is being investigated in the Indian Ocean, roughly 1,550 southwest of Perth, Australia.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Debris Found?
Australian authorities asked the Norwegian merchant ship St. Petersburg to change course and head in the direction of debris, which they believe is the best lead for the missing plane thus far, reported USA Today. In addition to the St. Petersburg, ships from the U.S., Australia and New Zealand are headed to the area.
The area the ships are searching stretches 16 nautical miles, making it likely that the search will take considerable time. As for the objects themselves, they are "of reasonable size and probably awash with water," John Young, general manager of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, said at a press conference.

"The Tomorrow People" star Luke Mitchell has a lot to do when playing the character of John Young. Not only does John have to be a leader (and then a fallen-from-grace leader), but he also has to deal with relationships between himself and just about everyone on the show.
Find out how that works and what's coming up for John in this interview.
Zap2it: How is it to play John these days?
Luke Mitchell: It's a lot of fun to play -- it's a barrel of laughs! [laughing]
I'm very grateful to the writers of the really cool storylines they keep throwing at me. It is really a lot of fun. One of the most enjoyable things is getting to work with the majority of the cast, not getting to work with just one or two actors. A successful rescue mission was staged on Thursday morning for the passengers on the Russian-flagged Mv Akademik Shokaskiy, which became trapped 10 days ago in unusually thick ice in the waters of Antarctica.
All 52 Passengers Rescued
The 52 passengers aboard the ship were members of a research team comprised of scientists, journalists and tourists. Among them was Australian professor Chris Turney, who used Twitter to report updates on their mission to get off the stranded vessel.
"It's 100% we're off! A huge thanks to all," Turney tweeted. He added later, “We’ve made it to the Aurora australis safe & sound. A huge thanks to the Chinese & @AusAntarctic for all their hard work! #spiritofmawson.”

After multiple thwarted rescue attempts, the passengers were ultimately retrieved by a helicopter from a nearby Chinese icebreaker.

"The Tomorrow People" fall finale, "Death's Door," proved:
1. Stephen's father, Roger, is in limbo -- a place that can only be accessed by near-death experiences.
2. Jedikiah Price isn't entirely evil.
3. The Founder is really Darth Vader.
Other things happened in the episode, of course, but these are the most important. For more on this and the rest of the show, keep reading.
The Founder = Darth Vader
The Founder has a distinctly Sith Lord quality about him at all times. A man with super-powers, he allies himself with evil and even becomes its master. Sounds just like Darth Vader, right?
"Death's Door," however, made it really clear that the Founder should be dressed in black with a mask. The evidence of this is impressive:Early on in the episode, the Founder demands that John reveal the location of "your rebel friends." This may be a direct borrowing from the original "Star Wars.

The Tomorrow People: Luke Mitchell Talks What’s Next for John and Jedikiah for the Mid-Season Finale
With the mid-season finale of The Tomorrow People looming, fans are dying to find out the fate of John Young (Luke Mitchell), who was captured by Ultra in last week’s episode “Thanatos.” Fortunately, with one more episode to go before taking its holiday hiatus, The Tomorrow People is not going to leave fans hanging and they will see whether John can find a way to escape or if he will become the newest victim of The Founder and his minions at Ultra.
In a recent press interview at the Warner Bros. Mondo International Press Tour, star Luke Mitchell talked about what lies ahead in John and Jedikiah’s thorny relationship, all the fun he is having filming the show, and why it stands out amongst all the other superpowered shows out there on television.
John was in a pretty bad spot when last saw him in last week’s episode.

Everyone was very busy in the "Tomorrow People" episode, "Thanatos." Kidnapping, murder, revelations, British professors with weird mushroom tea and even a "Matrix"-style brain machine were all part of the fun.
It's just too bad it all ended so poorly for just about all of the good guys.
Worst. Idea. Ever.
Stephen is still all worked up -- and rightly so -- about seeing his maybe-dead father and learning the word, "Thanatos," from him. Everyone else is a bit skeptical of this -- and rightly so -- since Stephen was having a near-death experience himself at the time.
But these crazy genetically evolved kids will do anything for Stephen, so Cara and Russell concoct what may be the worst plan in "Tomorrow People" history: They decide to break into Jedikiah's house and pick his brain while the man is asleep.
Nothing could go wrong, right?
Yeah ... Unfortunately, Jedikiah isn't...

Luke Mitchell appreciates that he has landed roles far more easily than most actors. Mitchell, who plays John Young in The CW's "The Tomorrow People," airing Wednesdays, had planned on becoming a pro tennis player.
This wasn't just a kid's dream in the "I want to be a cowboy or astronaut" category. Mitchell played tennis competitively and comes from a very athletic family. His brother, Ben, is a world-ranked tennis player.
When Mitchell quit, he haphazardly found acting.
"I never did drama at school," Mitchell tells Zap2it in his native Australian accent. "I did it for one term, when it was compulsory, and I hated it. Tennis was the main thing in my life, and I was not open to anything else. When I removed tennis from the equation, I didn't know who I was."
Mitchell, who describes himself as shy, retains the athlete's determination to push himself out of his comfort zone.

Doug King and Josie Long are taking their short comedy films on the road. We caught up with them for a chat...
This month, stand-up comedian Josie Long and director Douglas King are touring their short-film double header across England, Scotland and Wales. Let's Go Swimming and Romance and Adventure were both filmed in Glasgow and made for next-to-no money. We talked to Doug and Josie about these short-films, a possible feature length movie, and the mechanics of getting the films made. Because they're both more enthusiastic than that dog in the park that has just met you but wants to be your friend, we've got too much material to fit into one piece. Plus, that way, you get a double-dose of positive thinking.
First up is director Doug King, who we met in a den of scum and iniquity on Sauchiehall Street. They had beer.

In the "Tomorrow People" episode, "Kill or Be Killed," a huge secret is revealed from John Young's past. Find out more about John and this episode in an interview with actor Luke Mitchell.
What was it like for you to find out so much about John in this episode?
Luke Mitchell: It was fantastic. I was very excited for this episode from the moment I read it. It just went so well, the fact that we got to delve so much into my character, it was exciting. I think it's always an exciting thing for an actor to flesh-out the character that they're playing. To be able to do that this early in a show was really cool.

In "Kill or Be Killed," "The Tomorrow People" tells John Young's story and investigates a fundamental bit of the show's philosophy: Is it a strength or a weakness that the Tomorrow People can't kill?
The answer in this episode is intriguingly ambiguous. Find out why in this recap.
"My name is Dr. Jedikiah Price. Would you mind putting down the knife?"
John's past is tragic, to say the least. Around the time that John got his funky powers, he was an adolescent living in a rotten foster home. We're talking about the kind of place where Dad drinks the money and the oldest kid has to steal so no one starves.
It's almost a blessing when one Dr. Jedikiah Price arrives to whisk John away to a better life.
Of course, it's not really better -- just different. Under Jedikiah's dubious care, John learns to fight and to use his powers.

"The Tomorrow People" is about to reveal an important part of John Young's past in the upcoming episode, "Kill or Be Killed." That past makes a violent entrance into the present-day of the show when a former colleague of John's, Killian McCrane (guest star Jason Dohring),
resurfaces.
What else is coming in the episode? Keep reading for five "Tomorrow People" spoilers.
1. We're going to see a younger version of John back when he was just a boy, stealing food and money to survive while in the foster-care system. The crazy part is that the actor who plays the younger John looks almost exactly like Luke Mitchell. It's pretty incredible.
2. If you didn't believe that Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) knows how to make an entrance, consider this opening line when the scientist meets someone for the first time: "My name is Dr. Jedikiah Price. Would you mind putting down the knife?...

Zap2it: How do you describe "The Tomorrow People" superior creatures?

Luke Mitchell: That was a lot of fun. It was very popular. I was in Season 3, and it was a cool concept. It clinched that I love this and want to do it, and if I can get paid for it, even better.
Zap2it: You were working in Australia. Why make the huge move?
Luke Mitchell: I wanted to go to Hollywood because that's where the opportunities for me are. Enjoying what I do is a big part of it.

What does a superhero club do when one of their own defects to the dark side? In the new CW drama series The Tomorrow People, this is the very quandary that faces John Young (Luke Mitchell) after newcomer Stephen Jameson (Robbie Amell) turned his back on the very people who rescued him from his constant turmoil and insecurities. It will then be a test whether John and Stephen can find a way to work together to defeat Ultra or whether there is a way for Ultra and the Tomorrow People to find a way to coexist — though that seems unlikely given how ruthlessly Ultra has hunted and exterminated those with gifted abilities. In an exclusive interview, star Luke Mitchell previewed what is next for our heroes and the trials they face as the series unfolds and tells the story of these unique individuals with such extraordinary powers.

Luke Mitchell stars as John Young on The Tomorrow People.
In the actor's own words, he's a complicated leader and definitely a reluctant leader. He's also someone who appeared to have some resentment or envy toward Robbie Amell's Stephen on The Tomorrow People premiere.
What kind of relationship will these characters have going forward on Season 1? What is the source of their tension and why can many viewers likely relate to it? What was the audition process like for Mitchell and how is he handling all the fighting required of this role?
We asked the actor all these questions and more during a set visit to Vancouver last month. Watch the interview now and prepare for a new episode of The Tomorrow People tonight on The CW at 9/8c:

"The Tomorrow People" was originally a British science-fiction series that ran in the 1970s. In the show, a man named John led the group of supernaturally evolved young adults. That same man, actor Nicholas Young, has now been cast in a recurring role in the CW remake.
The new role for Young is that of Aldus Crick, according to TVGuide.com. Crick is the scientist who discovered and studied the first generation of Tomorrow People, including Stephen's (Robbie Amell) father. Helping Stephen find that father, however, will make Crick a target of Ultra, the paramilitary organization out to find and capture the Tomorrow People.
Young's role as John on the original series lasted the entire run of the show from 1973 to 1979. The only actor to appear in every season, John was the obvious leader for the group. In the remake, the character of John Young (Luke Mitchell) was based on...

In less than a month, the broadcast networks will be announcing which new series they're picking up for the 2013-14 season. Zap2it can't wait for that, though, so this week we're doing a series of pilot previews.
In addition to this gallery of 22 shows we hope the networks order to series, we're also going to take a closer look at pilot scripts from each of the networks. While a lot can change between now and a series premiere, and these are by no means full reviews, we hope to offer some insight at some of the projects the networks are considering this spring
New shows at The CW are always something of a gamble -- some are amazing and some fail miserably -- but at least one 2013 pilot, "The Tomorrow People," has a good shot at brilliance.

Hosted by Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist), the Players Club lit up with flashes of cameras and smiles of the first time filmmakers anxiously awaiting whose film will win the grand prize- the chance to have their film distributed by Cinema Libre Studios.
Johanna Bennett and Mandy founded the festival after noticing there wasn’t a venue for where new filmmakers can get their film viewed and appreciated. In attendance at the closing night ceremony were Tony Bennett and Jack Huston, as well as Martin Scorsese, who presented the First John Huston Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinema to Darren Aronofsky, who was also in attendance. Taken 2 certainly had a great second weekend, but is it good enough to join the ranks of sequels that prove that sometimes, the second time truly is the charm? From Frankenstein’s betrothed to the Caped Crusader of Gotham City, here are 15 motion pictures that definitely make the cut:
Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
Part gothic horror film and part black comedy, James Whale’s sequel to Frankenstein (1931) managed to slip in sly allusions to homosexuality and necrophilia, and introduced one of cinema’s most visually memorable characters: The Bride (Elsa Lanchester), with her frizzled lightning-bolt hairdo. —John Young

You’d think that the only major gaming company to debut a brand new console would own this year’s E3. But Nintendo’s introduction of the Wii U at the company’s press briefing Tuesday morning did not live up to expectations that the console would, in the words of Nintendo of America chief Reggie Fils-Aime, “revolutionize your living room.” It was far from an outright flop — the Wii U is packed with potential (if no price point or firm release date yet other than “the holiday season.”) But if Nintendo was looking to make a big splash at...

The Electronic Entertainment Expo: The videogame industry’s annual celebration of innovative button-mashing, finely pixelated storytelling, and more sequels, threequels, and prequels than a Hollywood studio chief could dare to conceive. This year’s E3 doesn’t officially begin until tomorrow, when conference-goers flood into the two massive showroom floors in the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center and embrace the flashy gaming pavilions and bone-melting sub-woofers. But the festivities kick off in earnest today, with press presentations by hardcore gaming rivals Microsoft and Sony, as well as showcases by major gaming publishers EA and Ubisoft.

The Games have officially begun!
Last night, The Hunger Games grossed a truly staggering $19.7 million from midnight showings across the country — the highest midnight total ever for a non-sequel, and the seventh highest midnight total ever (behind three Harry Potters and three Twilights). After only a few hours, it’s clear that the film is already a smash, and it’s almost certainly headed for a debut well above the $100 million mark.
Sure, the overnight figure can’t compare to the $43.5 million that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 conjured up at midnight shows last year (on its way...

The honeymoon ain’t over just yet!
Last night, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 grossed a staggering $30.3 million from Twihard-diehard midnight showings in 3,521 theaters, proving that America’s love affair with Bella, Edward, and Jacob is alive (or dead, or undead — I’m really not sure) and well.
The penultimate Twilight film began its run in line with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which earned just over $30 million (the exact figure is unknown) at midnight screenings in June 2010. For reference, New Moon pulled in $26.3 million at midnight in 2009.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 still holds the midnight record.

Dear Netflix,
We’ve had some good times together. I remember when your red envelopes first freed me from the authoritarian grasp of Blockbuster, where friendly employees were as abundant as Nc-17 movies. One of the first films I ordered through your service was Battleship Potemkin, the 1925 silent classic that would have been impossible to find in a Blockbuster store that carried 125 copies of Van Helsing. That’s why we cinephiles gravitated toward Netflix — you offered films we couldn’t rent anywhere else, and you provided an experience that was simple and cool.
And then you had to go and ruin a beautiful thing.

The Hangover Part II was always going to have a successful first weekend at the box office. The first film was a gleeful national landmark of bad behavior — remember when it had semi-serious Oscar buzz? — and it was the only non-superhero non-animated R-rated dude comedy in theaters (and will be until the decidedly weirder-looking Horrible Bosses arrives in July.) Still, even optimistic prognosticators have to be a bit surprised by just how well the film performed: as reported by EW’s John Young, the movie earned $137.4 in five days, the best opening frame ever for a live-action comedy and the second-biggest R-rated haul in history,...
