Australian VFX supervisor Seth Larney (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Malaysia’s Nasir Jani are co-directing Malaysian action thriller Tombiruo, based on the best-selling novel by Ramlee Awang Murshid.
Produced by Malaysia’s Astro Shaw, Ideate Media, Karangkraf and Layar Sunan, the film has also tapped Us-based 42 Entertainment to work on character design. 42 Entertainment has created games and immersive experiences for Us studio movies including Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Dark Knight and Tron Legacy.
According to Astro Shaw vice president, business development, Najwa Abu Bakar, the movie is being positioned for audiences beyond Malaysia, with the mix of Us, Australian and Southeast Asian talent.

Asia’s largest genre film fest, the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan) has announced a five-title line-up for a Project Spotlight on Malaysia in this year’s Network of Asian Fantastic Film (Naff).
Celebrating its 20th edition, Bifan last month in Cannes launched the Bifan Industry Gathering (Big), a newly expanded industry programme which takes Naff under its umbrella.
Bifan will run July 21-31 with Big taking place between July 22-28 and NAFFrunning July 25-28.

With the weekend's clues falling through, the search area has been expanded for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which lost contact with the airline on Friday, seemingly vanishing into thin air over the South China Sea without sending a distress signal. Over the weekend, reports indicated that a Vietnamese search plane had found fragments of an aircraft including a piece of the tail and part of a door, but that turned out to be untrue. Meanwhile, search crews also spotted oil slicks that were six to nine miles long in the same area where the Boeing 777-200Er lost contact with air traffic controllers, but it ended up being the fuel oil that's used in cargo ships. Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared without a trace over the weekend, travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Days later, investigators have uncovered the identity of one of the passengers who was traveling with a stolen passport, but are no closer to finding the missing aircraft.
