Academy Award bosses have been hit with a $50 million (£33 million) lawsuit from a Hollywood newcomer, who alleges he and his wife were falsely imprisoned at this year's Oscars ceremony.
Michael AvMen, who is set to star opposite Kate Bosworth in upcoming film Straw Dogs and in Michelle Rodriguez's movie Battle: Los Angeles, claims he was given two "tentatively confirmed" tickets to the 7 March event.
He was allegedly led to believe his passes were being held inside the venue - but claims he and his wife were "held against their will" for six hours in a "detention centre" upon arriving at Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre for the big show.
Officials then interrogated the pair about how they managed to get on the red carpet, accusing them of trespassing, according to the lawsuit filed on Thursday at the Central District Superior Court in California.
The couple is said to have been taken to a police station, but no charges were filed, reports FoxNews.com.
AvMen is now suing executives at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for "illegal false imprisonment" and "intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress".
The document claims the couple "sustained injury to his and her body and shock and injury to their nervous system" as a result of their treatment and have since suffered "humiliation, mental anguish and emotional and physical distress".
AvMen is determined to win the legal battle against Oscars organisers, insisting their security efforts were unacceptable.
In a statement, he says, "If I or some 'regular' individual acted as The Academy did, we would be in prison right now. I want, and I will show that these people aren't above the law. Security is one thing, but this was outside the realm of excessive. My wife and I have suffered, and there has been a great injustice enforced."...
