Horror comedy is very difficult to get right. Managing to cause laughs and scares is always a tricky balance, especially over the length of a feature film. The Evil Dead 2 is often held up as the best example of the genre, but I would probably update this to Tucker and Dale vs. Evil which managed to be sweet, funny and feature some very memorable and violent scenes. Cannibals and Carpet Fitters is, much like Snakes on a Plane, a title that makes me smile. It earns an awful lot of good will through title alone. But beyond the amusing Cockney vs. Zombies-style...

The alien warriors in the “Predator” franchise have faced off against commandos, a Los Angeles cop and even other aliens, but now audiences can watch one hunt down the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages. “Predators: Dark Ages” is an impressive fan-made short film that was crowdfunded on Kickstarter. U.K. filmmaker James Bushe wrote and directed the 27-minute production, which was shot by cinematographer Simon Rowling. Set during the Crusades, the short follows knights whose faith and fighting skills are put to the test when they encounter the extraterrestrial creature Arnold Schwarzenegger bested in 1987. While everybody was focused on the Alien skull in Predator 2, a much more interesting detail was dropped at the end of the film with the reveal that the universe’s most dangerous hunter has made mark in various era’s of Earth’s past. The predator movies that followed never really took advantage of this intriguing nugget of information, so thank god for writer director James Bushe and the team behind Predator: Dark Ages, a highly accomplished short fan film which transports us the middle ages, and pits the Predator against a group of Templar Knights tasked with ridding their lands of a ‘demon’. For a fan film, everything is spot-on, from the movies look to the sound track, and is an impressive feat for all those involved.

The fan-made short film Predator: Dark Ages takes the alien big game hunter into the past. Check out the trailer here...
Following John McTiernan's outstanding Predator in 1987, subsequent films (including the Alien Vs Predator spin-offs) have either been set in the present, or, in Predator 2's case, in the very near future. But what if the franchise's alien big game hunter showed up in the past?
That's the premise set out by the fan-made short film, Predator: Dark Ages, directed by James Bushe with cinematography by Simon Rowling. As its name implies, it's set in the Middle Ages, and sees the deadly Predator take on a group of a group of Templar knights in a leafy forest.
In terms of look and tone, Dark Ages reminds us a little bit of Black Death, the underrated 2010 film directed by Christopher Smith and starring Sean Bean and a pre-Oscar-glory Eddie Redmayne.

Predator. The ultimate killing machine. He went up against two men who went on to become United States governors in his first film, and he just kept kicking ass from there. But how would he fare in medieval times? The short film Predator: Dark Ages will ask that question.
Featuring a premise that will pit the intergalactic headhunter against the Knights Templar, Predator: Dark Ages promises to be a fan film extraordinaire. The director will be award-winning filmmaker James Bushe.
Actors currently attached to the project are Adrian Bouchet (Clash of the Titans, Alien vs. Predator), Jon Campling (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2), Ben Loyd-Holmes ("Da Vinci's Demons"), Zara Phythian (He Who Dares), and Amed Hashimi (47 Ronin).
