Rita Ora has confirmed that she has recorded new tracks with Roc Nation artists. The singer told Digital Spy at BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend that she has lined up some collaborations for her debut album Ora. "I have a few collaborations, but they are surprises," Ora explained. "I can tell you that will.i.am is on one of the tracks, which is so fun. "I can also tell you that the Roc Nation camp is involved in some circumstance." Roc Nation was founded by Jay-z in 2008 and has artists including Ora, J Cole, Jay Electronica, Willow Smith and Alexis Jordan signed to its label. The company also manages the careers of Rihanna, Shakira, Mia, The Ting Tings, Mark Ronson and Chase (more)...

No one on the corner has swagga like M.I.A. Except maybe Jay-z. In a mighty meeting of the swagga, M.I.A. has signed to Jay-z's management company Roc Nation. The management company tweeted the news earlier, saying "The nation just keeps on growing..." with an Instagram pic of the sometimes controversial Sri Lankan-British performer. They'll manage M.I.A. (real name: Maya Arulpragasam), but Interscope Records will still distribute her albums. Roc is home to a wide-raning crew of talent covering multiple genres; Rihanna, Santigold, The Ting Tings, Wale, producer Mark Ronson and Shakira are all clients. The Ting Tings write better music when they are upset. The 'That's Not My Name' hitmakers - made up for duo Katie White and Jules de Martino - would not like to release a happy album because it would be unlikely people would want to buy it. Jules said: 'We can only ever write anything when we're down. Who wants to hear an album from an artist that's happy? Because the content line tends to be, 'I'm sitting on a beach, how's life for you?''And right now a lot of people's answer is likely to be, 'Well not very good actually, we won't buy your record.' The Ting Tings have admitted that they scrapped their last album because it was full of "s**t Euro-pop". The duo, who cancelled the release of their second LP in 2010, said they deleted the record because it sounded too similar to everything else on the radio. Katie White told Digital Spy: "We were in Berlin where there is a great electro scene, and so we made songs like that, but quickly realised that everything on the radio was Euro-pop s**te. We didn't want our record to be tarnished with that brush." Jules de Martino continued: "We scrapped six of the ten songs, which upset quite a few people. We put out 'Hands', (more)...

It's been a while since we heard from the Ting Tings, the buzzy London duo whose drum-primal hit "That's Not My Name" made Katie White and Jules de Martino, well, household names. Signed to Columbia Records in the U.S., the twosome released their debut We Started Nothing in 2008, spent much of the next two years touring (playing festivals and opening for the likes of Pink), then quietly retreated to Berlin where they composed an album's worth of dance-centric tracks -- and scrapped them all. The Guardian gives the play-by-play in a Saturday feature on the band, detailing

British pop-rock duo The Ting Tings scored two major hits with the ubiquitous singles "That's Not My Name" and "Shut Up and Let Me Go", both off their freshman LP "We Started Nothing" and both of which - while catchy enough on the first few listens - were also quickly played out thanks to being featured in a slew of TV shows, movies ("Name" most recently in this year's "Horrible Bosses" ) and advertisements. Unfortunately for the band, which is made up of Katie White and Jules de Martino, "Silence" and "Hang It Up" - the first two singles off their just-announced second...

The Ting Tings have revealed that they scrapped an entire album. The duo - consisting of Katie White and Jules de Martino - dumped an LP of new material after falling out of love with the songs. According to Martino, White went "Awol" for six weeks after breaking the news to their label, who had initial reservations. White told the Daily Star: "Jules's idea of Awol and mine differ slightly. He thinks I'm weird and he's normal, but I don't see it like that at all. My phone is always off and I'm just not that reachable." Talking about their reasons for discarding the album, she explained: "We went to Berlin and really fell in love with techno (more)...

The Ting Tings say most people don't understand the meaning of their most famous song. Although the pop duo's biggest hit "That's Not My Name" sounds upbeat and fun, singer Katie White insists the lyrics are about being overlooked and feeling you are insignificant.
" 'That's Not My Name' is a really sad song for me," she told Bang Showbiz. "It's empowering, but we've all had a point in our lives where we felt that s**t, that we're useless at everything and that we weren't memorable. Everybody feels like, 'I don't know what my place is and I can't seem to find myself,' at some point, and I don't think a lot of people saw that with the song."
"Most people probably thought it was about some boy in a bar who has forgotten your name - but it really wasn't about that. It was about feeling invisible and unconfident.

The Ting Tings singer Katie White has opened up after canceling the band's North American tour due to illness, insisting she knew the duo should have "stopped earlier". White and bandmate Jules de Martino were forced to scrap their trek last December after the singer was diagnosed with exhaustion, stemming from the group's manic schedule.
The star admits she was reluctant to stop performing any earlier for fear of letting their fans down - but White knew when her body had had enough. She tells Britain's The Sun, "I was so tired and lost so much weight. I kept getting chest infections and I was on antibiotics and steroids. My body was like, 'Okay, screw you, you've pushed me too hard'."
"We should've stopped earlier but when there were 10,000 kids in Japan who want to see you, you can't let them down because you don't know when you'll be there again.

The Ting Tings star Jules De Martino has urged Kanye West to "lighten up" - because the rapper takes himself seriously even when he's using the bathroom. The "That's Not My Name" hitmakers were stunned when West arrived in their dressing room at a gig and then used the sink as a urinal.
But De Martino was even more annoyed when he later joked with the rapper about the incident - and West failed to see the funny side. The rocker tells Britain's X Magazine, "Kanye had a wee in our dressing room sink backstage after a show. He's a real character because he's really serious and yet he was having a wee."
"Months later, we met him at a show... We got introduced and I said to him, 'Last time we met you were weeing in our dressing room.' But instead of laughing, he said, 'Well, it's nice that I've given you something.

The Ting Tings made their own synth sounds with their mouths after their keyboards broke while recording their new album. The "That's Not My Name" group, made up of Katie White and Jules De Martino, exiled themselves to Berlin to write and record their second album, and said not even faulty equipment could stand in the way of them getting their ideas recorded.

The duo used some unorthodox methods of playing their instruments in order to create distinctive sounds for the record. Jules explained, "We played guitars with sanded down drum sticks so they had rough edges and played guitar sounds on drumsticks, but stuff like that we do anyway."

The Ting Tings' new single "Hands" has got music video treatment which is filled with flashing lights. Jules de Martino is playing the drums, Katie White is rocking the Calvin Harris-produced song in a keytar, and several mill workers are seen hard at work with their welding.
Electro-disco sound, "Hands" is the first offering from The Ting Tings' upcoming second studio effort "Kunst". The song has been unveiled since mid August but won't be made available for digital download until October, while the album is yet to have any release date.
The album is recorded in the band's home made studio in Berlin. "Our time in Berlin was a fresh start, with no rules again," Jules said. "When you've had an album that's been successful, the danger is you back in the studio, look back and try and emulate it." Katie added, "It'd be so lazy and easy to make the same album twice.

The Ting Tings have revealed that they hate being marketed as a "cool" and "credible" pop band. The group, who are gearing up for the release of their sophomore album, eventually decided to make the LP away from their hometown of Manchester in fear of replicating the sound of their first record. Sharing about the recording sessions for the album, he furthermore stated, "We listened back to some of the demos and we thought, hold on a minute, this is sounding too much like we're rocking out live. We bought a couple of old weird synths in New York and smuggled them in our suitcases back to Berlin and they started to come strong on the music."
