Odds are bed bugs are just a cover for something sinister that’s about to happen to the Turners.
Episode two of the fourth and final season is titled “Itch,” of course, and will find Leanne tormenting Dorothy as chaos overtakes Spruce Street. Episode two will premiere on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Servant executive producer M. Night Shyamalan once said that his dream version of the Apple TV+ series would consist of sixty episodes, but he later whittled that number down, telling Uproxx that “I outlined the whole series over the pandemic and figured out where I wanted it to go and how many episodes it would be. And it came out to 40.” Each season of Servant consists of ten episodes, so it will be reaching Shyamalan’s goal of 40 at the end of season 4… and Apple TV+ has now confirmed that Servant season 4 is the “final chapter” of the show, which will bring viewers “an epic and emotional conclusion of the Turner story.” Along with that confirmation comes the unveiling of a teaser trailer, which you can see in the embed above, and some first look images, which can be found at the bottom of this article.

This beguiling and disturbing film is full of secrets and definitely bears repeat watching, but just in case you need a little extra persuasion, this package includes a fantastic array of extras. It includes an in-depth audio commentary, with director Carlo Mirabella-Davis and producers Mollye Asher and Mynette Louie struggling to fit in everything they want to say, plus a selection of interviews looking at the film from the different perspectives of various members of the creative team. All of these are substantial, with Mirabella-Davis reflections on the film's inspirations particularly poignant. Editor Joe Murphy offers some fascinating insights into how the film was assembled (and what was left out), and composer Nathan Halpern places it in the context of other work he has done, such as his score for Chloé Zhao's The Rider.

One of the most chilling shows on TV has a return date.
Apple TV+ today unveiled a first-look teaser at the third season of the acclaimed Servant.
The 10-episode third season will debut with the first episode on Friday, January 21, 2022, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.
From executive producer M. Night Shyamalan, Servant follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.
The new episodes pick up three months after Servant Season 2, with Leanne struggling to come to terms with the fact that no one has come looking for her.
She believes they will come looking eventually, while the Turners want to raise Jericho and move on with their lives.
Unfortunately, the past always comes back to haunt the characters on this show, so it's going to be a complicated chain of events.

Following our top 50 films of 2020 and more year-end coverage, we’re pleased to share personal top 10s of 2020 from our contributors.
Oh, where to begin? There’s usually so much to complain about. Yes, 2020 was rough. It was like if the second half of mother! was directed by three minions in a trench coat posing as McGruff the Crime Dog and then came to life. Even the film world was odd. Stuff got pushed to VOD. Studios delayed tent poles a year back in some cases. In what has to be the longest record since I was three years old, I haven’t been to a theater since March 12. I’m all but sure it’ll be more than a few months before it’s safe (or even possible) to see something again on the big screen, but getting this handful of movies is more than a nice consolation prize.

Pedro Almodóvar had a busy 2020. He scored his latest Oscar nomination for “Pain and Glory” in February, shortly before the pandemic took hold, and spent several weeks in lockdown writing a series of essays that were published in English on this site. By midyear, the Spanish auteur was working on his first English-language filmmaking endeavor, the Tilda Swinton-starring “The Human Voice,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in the fall and opens in theaters in March 2021. In the midst of all that, Almodóvar also found time to watch some new films. Here is his annotated list of favorites, which he published this week on the site of his production company. It has been translated here into English by Deirdre Mac Closkey with his approval.
This list has been updated to include “Nomadland,” which Almodóvar watched after the initial publication of his favorite films.

While guilds and critics groups will soon be delivering their opinions, one of the few of genuine interest each year comes from a single person: the wonderfully eccentric director John Waters, whose eclectic tastes always includes a mix of the unexpected and underseen.
Topping his list this year is Tyler Cornack’s spring release Butt Boy, which features a strange tale of missing persons potentially disappearing up someone’s rectum, followed by the recommended psychological body horror film Swallow. Also among the list are the latest films from Pedro Almodóvar, Craig Zobel, Quentin Dupieux and, as a 10th place tie leading to 11 selections, new courtroom dramas by Steve McQueen and Aaron Sorkin.
Check out the list below via Baltimore Fishbowl, which will appear in the next issue of Artforum. We’ve also included links to our reviews.

Carlo Mirabella-Davis's Swallow is showing exclusively on Mubi in many countries starting October 31, 2020.Two thrillers that dealt with abusive partners, pregnancy, and by extension, bodily autonomy, debuted in the early months of 2020. Were it not for Covid-19, more ado might have been made of the thematic similarities between Leigh Whannel’s reimagining of H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man and Carlo Mirabella-Davis’ indie debut Swallow. The week–apart timing of their respective releases suggests a percolating, post-Weinstein reckoning and if they’re any indication, films created in this wake will take a corrective approach with women-driven narratives that make explicit reference to lessons (ostensibly) learned from #MeToo. In the hands of two male directors, reproductive rights might seem a pandering subject meant to assuage a demographic eager to see Hollywood change its ways, but pregnancy in particular has a rich precedent in horror films. The pinnacle of the micro-genre...

This year’s awards season, delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, finally got underway with the announcement of the 2021 Gotham Awards nominations on November 12 (last year’s big reveal was on Oct. 24). These awards are presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) and honor the best of the year as determined by small committees of film journalists and festival programmers. The five Best Feature nominees, which were all directed by women, are: “The Assistant,” “First Cow,” “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” “Nomadland” and “Relic.” Scroll down to see the complete list of contenders.
Will these awards preview the Oscars? Perhaps. Last year’s Best Feature award went to “Marriage Story,” which did go on to reap a Best Picture bid. However, that was the exception rather than the rule. Indeed, its rival Gotham Awards nominees — “The Farewell,” “Hustlers,” “Uncut Gems” and “Waves” — were all snubbed by the Academy Awards.

The longest awards season ever kicks off today with the announcement for the 2020 Gotham Awards nominees. The awards ceremony, backed by the Independent Film Project (IFP), is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. As always, the Gothams are the first stop on the awards season journey, which this year will last until the Oscars ceremony all the way on April 25. The 2020 Gotham Awards are set to take place January 11, 2021, over a month delay from when the ceremony’s usually held, on the first Monday after Thanksgiving.
While the Gotham Awards don’t always overlap with the Oscars, they often play a key role in elevating films into the overall awards conversation since the ceremony is the first of the season. Past acting winners like Adam Driver (“Marriage Story”), Awkwafina (“The Farewell”), Ethan Hawke (“First Reformed”), and Toni Collette (“Hereditary”) all had Oscar momentum following the Gothams, with Driver nabbing an Oscar nom for Best Actor.

In the best actor category, Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination for his work in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” a performance likely to be shortlisted by many awards bodies over the next few months. The other nominees included Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Jude Law (“The Nest”), John Magaro (“First Cow”) and Jesse Plemons (“I’m Thinking of Ending Things”).

Carlo Mirabella-Davis's Swallow is showing exclusively on Mubi in many countries starting October 31, 2020.I am profoundly honored to be introducing my film, Swallow, to the viewers of Mubi’s iconic programming. Swallow follows a woman in a controlling marriage who has pica, the urge to eat dangerous objects. I think of the movie as a tiramisu of genres: body horror, dark comedy, and a domestic drama all rolled into one. Swallow is a film that will frighten you, make you laugh, and make you cry, hopefully fostering a psychologically cathartic experience. The film was inspired by my grandmother, a 1950s homemaker who, as a response to a difficult marriage, developed various rituals of control. She was an obsessive hand washer who would go through four bars of soap a day and 12 bottles of sanitizing alcohol a week. I think she was looking for order in a life she felt increasingly powerless in.
