Raw (Grave) is a horror and drama movie directed and written by Julia Ducournau magnificently starred by Garance Marillier who is given a life changing opportunity that does not go wasted.
Terror that is not suitable for all audiences in a movie that goes into the taboo of cannibalism.
Raw is the (already famous) movie directed in 2016 by Julia Ducournau. And, yes, it is about cannibalism, so if you are having a bad day… it is not a movie for you. However, the movie is not bad at all and it surprises us with a different focus and although at times it is sensationalistic and even morbid, it undertakes the narrative in a special, different way and with a blatant setting that matches the plot very well.

Emmanuel Mouret’s “Love Affair(s),” Samir Guesmi’s “Ibrahim” and Elie Wajeman’s “Night Doctor” won top prizes at Colcoa, the French film and TV festival.
The festival, which marked its 25th edition, wrapped at the DGA on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles on Nov. 7. It was attended by 14,000 people.
The festival, programmed by Francois Truffart, is organized by the Franco-American Cultural Fund, a collaboration between the Directors Guild of America (DGA), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), The Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw) and France’s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music (Sacem).
Colcoa shifted its spring dates to the fall in 2019 as the DGA was being renovated and is now ideally positioned at the start of the awards season in the U.S. The awards ceremony took place at the Sacem headquarters near Paris in the presence of many honorees, notably Guesmi and “Love Affair(s)” producer Frédéric Niedermayer,...

Laurent Cantet, best known for “The Class,” his Cannes 2008’s Palme d’Or-winning film about a teacher and his racially-mixed students in an underprivileged Parisian suburb, highlights the cracks within French society in the thought-provoking “Arthur Rambo.”
The film, which played at Toronto in its Platform section and is competing at San Sebastian, is inspired by the true story of Mehdi Meklat, a young man who grew up in a French high-rise project on the outskirt of Paris and became a star journalist and an author celebrated by France’s mainstream media and left-leaning intellectual circles.
But in 2017, as Meklat reached the apogee of his success, he was publicly shut down and dropped by his publisher after his heinous tweets – written under a pseudonym before becoming famous — were revealed. The movie follows this anti-hero’s downfall through the next 48 hours.

There’s an interesting lesson to be learned at the center Laurent Cantet’s Arthur Rambo that’s honestly shocking to think still needs to be learned. I don’t mean that in reference to the director or his fellow co-writers Fanny Burdino and Samuel Doux, though, as many people talking about the film do. I’m talking about the people like Karim D. (Rabah Nait Oufella) who still can’t quite grasp the reality that social media isn’t a safe space. It’s not a diary to collect your rage and insecurities so you don’t spew them in public. It is public. The filmmakers understand that truth. Them writing a character who doesn’t—or is naïve enough to pretend he doesn’t—isn’t them being out of touch. It’s evidence that others are.

Two films distinguished with the 2020 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection Label have dominated the list of winners at the 13th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival. Presided over by the duo composed of Gustave Kervern and Benoît Delépine, the jury showed itself especially favourable towards Ibrahim, the first feature film directed by actor Samir Guesmi, which walked away with four trophies including the Diamond Valois for Best Film. The awards for Best Direction, Best Screenplay (written by the director) and Best Music (Raphaël Eligoulachvili) also fell into its hands. To mark the release of Raw on 14th August, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on DVD.
Unsuspecting Justine (Garance Marillier) enrolls into veterinary school without the slightest idea that she’d graduate as a fully-fledged carnivore with an insatiable desire for human flesh. This young woman soon pays the price of trying to fit in when she is tempted into a hazing ritual which involves eating a piece of raw meat, thereafter her animalistic desires spiral out of control. Before she knows it Justine has bitten off more than she can chew, and will soon face the terrible consequences of her actions as her true self begins to emerge.
Ducournau’s breakthrough French speaking film with English subtitles, Raw, has received award wins at Cannes, Toronto and London Film Festivals. Starring an all-French cast, Garrance Marllier as Justine (Junior, It’s Not a Cowboy Movie...

This is the Pure Movies review of Raw, starring Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf, Rabah Nait Oufella, Laurent Lucas and Joana Preiss, directed by Julia Ducournau. Written by Joshua Glenn for Pure Movies. Whether it’s Carrie getting her first period and proceeding to hone her telekinetic powers in murderous ways, or Buffy having to work through her high-school woes and fend off the undead in one fell swoop, female coming-of-age tales often reach for thematic richness by tapping into the supernatural or macabre. This isn’t always a guarantee of success – for every Heathers there are five Twilights – but those that work make one thing implicitly clear: tone is essential. Get this wrong and the whole thing falls apart. Nail it, though, and the disparate elements congeal into a riveting, rambunctious, resonant whole. Raw, Julia Ducournau’s riotous addition to the canon, is well and truly within the latter camp.

I’ve read the hype, I’ve heard of the faintings and walkouts. And I have no idea what film those “newsworthy” stories were based around. It’s certainly not the film that I saw… In fact I found the film to be somewhat timid compared to the online furore surrounding Julia Ducournau’s film. As a strange, ethereal coming-of-age tale, Raw is very, Very, effective. But as some kind of Martyrs-esque French fear-flick shocker? Less so. Much less so. Don’t buy into the hype and instead enjoy an pathos-filled tale of growing up. All wrapped up in the story of cannibal sisters attending veterinary school! Hey, I never said Raw wasn’t a strange film…

The French-language horror film Raw has been called a coming-of-age story and, in a way, it is – if you might be a cannibal. Written and directed by Julia Ducournau, Raw is one gripping horror film. In her debut feature, the writer/director does an excellent job creating an unnerving scary atmosphere, and inserting layers of symbolism under the horror.
Gruesome, gory and intelligent, cannibalism is a central part of this disturbing thriller set in veterinary college in a French rural location. The film can be seen as a metaphor of sorts for the excesses of college freshman, once parents are far away, but few party schools can match the excesses of this vet school.

It's the cannibal movie that caused people to faint at a film festival – this is what people talk about when they talk about Raw, the extraordinary body-horror parable from French director Julia Ducournau. The incident, which happened at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, might cause folks to view this as some sort of cinematic dare, a splatter shocker designed to test the limits of the scary-movie marine corps. Consider this a disclaimer, and a reclamation: The story of a young woman (Garance Marillier) who develops a taste for certain off-the-menu delicacies is indeed intense.

France has a rich history of horror. There’s the sadomasochistic novels of the Marquis de Sade as well as the blood and guts of Grand Guignol theatre. In cinema, the horror lineage runs deep. There’s Georges Méliès’ shorts and trick films (The Haunted Castle [1896], The Four Troublesome Heads [1898]); the eye-slicing of Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel’s Un chien andalou (1929); Georges Franju’s nauseating documentary on slaughterhouses, Blood of the Beasts (1949), as well as his clinical and poetic Eyes Without a Face (1960); there’s Henri-Georges Clouzot’s nasty Diabolique (1955); and the rotting poetry of Jean Rollin’s collective work. Flash forward a few decades, to the mid-1990s and 2000s, where we find the intense and brutal "New French Extremity" films by Philippe Grandrieux, Bruno Dumont, Gaspar Noé, Marina de Van, and others. And there are the genre filmmakers creating work around the same time as the more...

"A deliciously fevered stew of nightmare fuel." Focus World has debuted a juicy red band trailer for a highly acclaimed indie drama titled Raw, which played to rave reviews at the Toronto Film Festival and Fantastic Fest last fall. The film is about a young veterinarian student named Justine, played by Garance Marillier, who is a vegetarian. Everything changes when she's forced to eat raw meat as part of a hazing ritual at the vet school, and things get bloodier from there on out. The cast includes Ella Rumpf, Rabah Nait Oufella, Laurent Lucas, Joana Preiss, Bouli Lanners, Marion Vernoux. This acclaimed film is also playing at Sundance coming up this month. This looks disgusting, but the rave reviews have me interested anyway. Here's the official red band trailer (+ poster) for Julia Ducournau's Raw, direct from YouTube: Everyone in Justine’s family is a vet. And a vegetarian. At...

A maddening and twisted red-band trailer has been released for a cannibal thriller called Raw. No words are spoken in the trailer, but it's filled with some pretty jacked-up visuals that will make you squirm in your seat. As I mentioned in the title, it's a pretty effective dose of nightmare fuel. It looks absolutely horrific, which obviously means that I have to see it! Here's the synopsis:

Julia Ducournau’s feature film debut, “Raw,” is not for the weak stomached. The movie, which premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, caused quite a stir with audiences due to its gruesome and graphic scenes. Now, ahead of its March theatrical release, Focus World has shared the red band trailer for the cannibal thriller.
Starring newcomers Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf, and Rabah Nait Oufella, the story follows 16-year-old Justine (Marillier), a vegetarian college student who is forced to eat a raw rabbit liver during her school’s humiliating hazing ritual. Soon after, she starts to crave more flesh and becomes a cannibal.
