On May 23, the final episode of the first season of Elsbeth, a spin-off of The Good Wife about a lawyer who leaves her native Chicago for a solo adventure, was released. Elsbeth has a brilliant mind that allows her to look at things from an entirely different angle, and she clearly doesn't want to waste that on just being a lawyer. So she comes to New York at the invitation of the local mayor's office to help the police.

This article contains spoilers for Psych.
It’s easy to forget sometimes that Psych is a show that often involves murder. The procedural comedy-drama is well known for its running gags, irreverent humor, and the absurd scenarios that faux psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his best friend/crime-solving partner Gus (Dulé Hill) often found themselves in, all of which can overshadow the seriousness of the crimes they’re trying to solve. However, the series proves it’s worthy of the drama genre descriptor more often than we realize when it allows itself to go to darker places than we expect.
The most obvious example of this in the series is the Yin/Yang arc. Shawn and Gus go up against these serial killers several times throughout the series, and often find themselves and those they care about directly in harms’ way. Like many serial killers, Yin (Peter Weller...

One of the USA Network's most beloved television series is "Monk," which aired from 2002 to 2009. A police procedural comedy owing a lot to Sherlock Holmes (but set in 2000s San Francisco), the show followed Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). A detective with crippling obsessive-compulsive disorder (Ocd) and social anxiety, Monk was once a police officer but retired after the death of his wife Trudy. He semi-comes out of retirement years later as a private consultant and that's when the series begins. Thanks to his performance as Monk, Shalhoub won three Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, and the finale ("Mr. Monk and the End") broke cable ratings records.
In 2020, Shalhoub and his castmates starred in a mini-reunion for Peacock, "Monk In Quarantine." Monk, an infamous germaphobe, goes the extra mile with safety precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic while his friends check in on him over Zoom. Evidently,...

Psych is a detective comedy-drama series that aired on the USA Network from 2006 to 2014. The show follows the adventures of Shawn Spencer, a young man who leverages his keen eye for detail and exceptional powers of observation to pretend to be a psychic to help the Santa Barbara Police Department solve cases. Throughout its 8-season run, the show welcomed a number of actors in guest and recurring roles including Nestor Carbonell. Carbonell was, at the time, fresh off his role as Richard Alpert on the hit science fiction drama, Lost. His role on Psych was his first live-action...

Peacock announced that “Psych 3: This is Gus” will premiere on Nov. 18.
A spinoff of the USA Network detective comedy “Psych” and a sequel to “Psych: The Movie” and “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” the new film will see fake-psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his friend and partner Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill) investigate the double life and estranged husband of Gus’ fiancée Selene (Jazmyn Simon). They work the case while preparing for Gus’ shotgun wedding and new baby, as Chief Charlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) grapples with the future of his career.
In a new trailer, which you can watch below, Shawn and Gus reprise their old bits and catchphrases — knocking on doors and using fake names to question people, working in costume and telling each other to “suck it.”

Of course, a show about a fake psychic detective named Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill) was destined to be hilarious. In fact, one of the best things about Psych is that in order to get pretty much anywhere in an investigation, Shawn usually gives Gus a ridiculous nickname to fit the situation. Over eight seasons and two movies, Shawn has given Gus around 104 nicknames, give or take. While he mostly goes along with them, every now and again, he is given veto power, which he heavily invokes during Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. We picked some of our favorites below - and no, we didn't rank them, it was just too hard!

Early on in the Psych pilot, Shawn Spencer’s (James Roday Rodriguez) ludicrous plot to impersonate a psychic in order to solve crime suddenly takes on grave stakes: Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) informs him that if he’s lying, he’ll be prosecuted for hindering a police investigation. Just like that, he’s locked into his lie, and has no choice but to let it snowball—into a private eye business with his best friend Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), but also into a lucrative consultancy gig for the Santa Barbara Police Department that, psychic antics be damned, legitimately saves lives.
But while it’s the Chief who put the fear of God into Shawn, the true threat to his secret was always one Carlton Jebediah Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). In the early seasons, Lassiter was the perfect foil: a by-the-book detective obsessed with proper procedure and with hypermasculinity, who had patience...

While some people always go back to The Office or Friends when rewatching favorite shows, I've always gravitated toward Psych. The show, which follows the antics of fake-psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend/partner-in-crime Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill), first caught my eye during a commercial break of a random episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I've always been a fan of crime and detective shows, but they often drain me emotionally after a few hours due to the dark nature of the material. Psych immediately seemed different. Although it often follows a murder, its focus has always been more on Shawn, Gus, and their ridiculous interactions with others than the crime itself.
It didn't take long for me to get hooked and I'd often find myself caught up in marathons on USA Network and quoting the show in my everyday life.

The following contains spoilers for Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
As fun as 2017’s Psych: The Movie was, its 2020 sequel Psych 2: Lassie Come Home will likely supplant it in Psych-Os’ hearts, because it’s got 500% more Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). But how does it stack up to its predecessor in terms of Psych callbacks and pop culture homages? Using our Spencer powers of observation, we’ve tried to catch every recurring inside joke between Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) and Gus (Dulé Hill), plus all the episodic-specific bits. It’s a feature-length Hitchcock homage, but it’s also the toughest Easter egg hunt of your life. C’mon, son!
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Easter Eggs and References
The title is a reference to Lassie Come Home, the 1943 Lassie movie about the beloved dog making her way home from Scotland. A German-language remake came out early in 2020.

Am I the only one who gets a goofy grin on his face during the opening credits of Psych?
Shawn, Gus, and friends returned to Santa Barbara to help one of their own, Police Chief Carlton Lassiter, in Psych 2 Season 1 Episode 1.
What an ingenious way to make a second Psych movie happen!
Timothy Omundson, a key part of the long-running USA Network series playing Lassiter, suffered a stroke in 2017, from which he continues to recover.
The Tptb came up with a solution for Lassie Come Home: Have Lassiter get shot six times in an ambush then suffer a stroke during the surgery to save his life.
But Lassie was able to remain an active part of the mystery because he was seeing strange sights in the nights at the center where he's recovering.
Staff members told him it was just the drugs he was on talking. But Carlton, desperate to be told he wasn't crazy,...

It's been six years since USA Network's Psych went off the air, but the friendship between the show's stars James Roday and Dulé Hill is as strong as ever. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell where James and Dulé end and their characters Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster begin. This is evident by their witty banter in nearly ever interview they've done together. Over the years, the actors have formed a strong bond, with Dulé often calling James his "brother" on social media and James being a groomsman at Dulé and Jazmyn Simon's 2018 wedding.
As to why their friendship as Shawn and Gus is so believable, Dulé told The Futon Critic, "we vibe very well off-camera and that helps with the chemistry onscreen, in that we both like to have a good time, crack jokes, and sing songs from the '80s, and that helps us . . . keep things in tune on-screen.

Psych: The Movie, when it was released in 2017, was clearly a love letter for the avid Psych-Os missing fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday), his platonic life partner Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), and the rest of the Santa Barbara Police Department after the series wrapped in 2014. From a David Bowie-loving villain to a #TeamGrimmie T-shirt, it was the best kind of fan service. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, then, is undoubtedly a love letter from the cast and crew of Psych to one of their own: actor Timothy Omundson and his grouchy yet heroic alter ego, detective Carlton Lassiter, both undergoing recovery for a stroke. Psych 2, which premieres July 15 on Peacock, is a surprisingly poignant example of art imitating life while still ushering a crew of beloved characters through personal and professional life changes.

The final moments of 2017’s Psych: The Movie are literally explosive: Professional fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and partner-in-crime-solving Burton Guster (Dulé Hill) watch their newly-christened San Francisco-based practice go up in laser-sniper-fire from whoever’s hot on the trail of Shawn’s brother-in-law Ewan O’Hara (John Cena). It might have seemed an obvious setup for an eventual second Psych movie, with the titular duo following in the wake of Ewan’s ex-Black-Ops adventures, but instead creator Steve Franks and Roday (who shares a co-writing credit on both movies) went for a quieter and more emotionally resonant angle in their followup.

Psych is officially set for another small screen reunion between James Roday’s Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill’s Burton Guster for more pseudo-psychic sleuthing, thanks to the official order for a sequel TV movie, which, is now titled Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
Interestingly, unlike 2017’s Psych: The Movie, the follow-up, as it turns out, will not premiere on the show’s old home of USA Network, with the reveal that it will instead debut on NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock. The move occurs after USA gave the initial greenlight for a second two-hour Psych TV movie back in February of 2019.
While it was originally planned to arrive before the end of 2019, the movie’s Peacock premiere is now tied to the streaming platform’s July 2020 launch. Steve Franks, creator of the original series, returns as director, writer and executive producer for Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.

It’s been six years since “Psych” aired its series finale on USA Network after an eight-season run, but the property is hardly out of cases for its central detective duo.
“Even on the pilot, I was saying we’re going to do five seasons and a movie, and as we got past five seasons we had to just start upping our expectations,” said creator Steve Franks during Atx Television Festival’s virtual reunion panel Sunday. “Then we stopped speculating on the seasons and I added it to six movies. So we got eight seasons, six movies; we’re in two. I think if we start speaking it into existence, it’ll start to happen.”
With a loyal fanbase that’s still clamoring for more shenanigans and a creative team whose bonds only grow stronger with time, there’s still ambitious plans to keep following these characters into the future.

In a fun Instagram post from Psych star Timothy Omundson, we found out that Joel McHale is joining the cast of Psych: The Movie 2. We don’t have any character details yet for McHale’s role, but have the description that he’s a mysterious character from Lassie’s past. Not only that, but Jimmi Simpson tweeted a video confirming that he is returning to the sequel and reprising his role as Mary Lightly.
The original series follows “fake psychic Shawn Spencer, played by James Roday (A Million Little Things), and Burton ‘Gus’ Guster, played by Dulé Hill (Suits), as best friend/crime-solving partners. The show had an immense following, with its eight series run and its first movie that followed, so it’s pretty fun that fans are getting this second follow up.
I hate to admit that I still haven’t watched the series. It’s on my list!

Psych is officially set for another small screen reunion between James Roday’s Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill’s Burton Guster for more pseudo-psychic sleuthing, thanks to the official order for a sequel TV movie, which, just officially revealed its title to be Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
Interestingly, unlike 2017’s Psych: The Movie, the follow-up, as it turns out, will not premiere on the show’s old home of USA Network, with the reveal that it will instead debut on NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock. The move occurs after USA gave the initial greenlight for a second two-hour Psych TV movie back in February.
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home also just experienced a release window shift. While it was originally planned to arrive before the end of...

Oh my, God. They are going to get around to the second “Psych” movie, so would you get off James Roday’s back already?
The “A Million Little Things” star was asked about the status of the USA Network series’ much-buzzed about second small screen flick, while sitting on the panel for his new ABC series during the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday. And the “Pscyh” alum said it’s going to happen. Ok? But he doesn’t know when yet.
“Yes, the answer is yes,” Roday told reporters who asked if he was still planning on doing a follow-up TV movie, despite his new work schedule for “A Million Little Things.” “We’ll figure out a way to do it. All the pieces are still there and everybody wants to do it. We gotta get Tim Omundson back to the ‘Pscyh’ world. So we’ll figure it out.

At TCA today, James Roday said that another Psych movie on USA is in the works even though he’s busy on ABC’s hour-long drama series A Million Little Things.
“We’ll figure out a way to do it. All the pieces are still there, and everyone wants to do it. We gotta ask Tim Omundson back, but we’ll figure it out” Roday said.
In Psych, Roday plays fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer alongside Burton ‘Gus’ Guster. Roday co-wrote the 2017 movie and he told Deadline today he’s also working on the sequel too. Details are under wraps. In the movie last December Shawn and Gus opened up their new office in San Francisco, called “psychphrancisco,” and worked on a case involving a mystery assailant targeting one of their own. Psych also starred Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen. The series ran for eight seasons and ended its...

Psych fans who were, well, psyched about my colleague Matt Mitovich’s scoop last week that the USA Network series will return to the airwaves in October have another reason to do the happy dance right this very second. We’ve got a clip from the show’s upcoming sixth season — unveiled at the Psych panel at Comic-Con on Thursday afternoon — that’ll have your jaw hanging somewhere in the vicinity of your keyboard. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say the scene involves a polygraph test, a declaration of love, and a...
