Nicolas Cage in an action-packed fantasy epic that's not just for kids.

Kid flicks have ruled this summer, with movies like "Toy Story 3," "The Karate Kid" and "Despicable Me" racking up box-office grosses far beyond industry predictions. Now comes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," which looks likely to repeat that money-minting feat. Like all great kid flicks, though, it's too good — too fast and too funny — to be confined within the "family film" ghetto.
It's a Disney picture, of course, derived from a segment of the studio's 1940 animated classic, "Fantasia," in which apprentice sorcerer Mickey Mouse did battle with a platoon of out-of-control buckets and mops. For this live-action version of the tale, that eight-minute episode has been much-enlarged (although thanks to some of the year's tightest editing, the movie still runs well under two hours). Now the story begins in 740 A.D.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is not your grandmother's Disney film. Based on the classic short segment from "Fantasia" featuring a wizardly Mickey Mouse, dancing broomsticks and all other forms of magic, Bruckheimer's updated "Sorcerer" brings the famous tale into the 21st century with all of the big bada-booms we've come to expect from the man responsible for "Armageddon," "Con Air" and "Pearl Harbor."
In fact, Bruckheimer's unique take on the beloved yarn has left many of the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" cast and crew wondering: If they could pick any classic Disney cartoon for Bruckheimer to put his explosive stamp on, what would it be?

I can't say I'm excited for this movie, I'm going into it with low expectations, so the worst that can happen is it ends up being a fun cheesy movie that my kids will enjoy. Here are all five posters with character descriptions!
Balthazar Blake - “The Sorcerer”
Balthazar Blake (Cage) is a student of Merlin and a Sorcerer. More than 1,000 years old, Balthazar has been searching the globe until he finds the Prime Merlinean, the descendent of Merlin and inheritor of his great powers. When Balthazar finally discovers him in 10-year-old Dave Stutler, he finds himself with a very reluctant sorcerer’s apprentice.

As "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is getting closer to the U.S. release date of July 14, Walt Disney Pictures has been actively promoting the movie. The latest, the studio has debuted a new trailer as well as two character posters from the film.
Unlike most of the sneak peeks from the movie which highlight the magic, the fresh trailer has a part which shows Jay Baruchel's Dave Stutler as a regular student before he is found by Nicolas Cage's Balthazar Blake. Later, the video shares a lot of fresh scenes which show off the magical things.
While the video gives much of its portion to the two major protagonists, the new character posters focus on Sun Lok "The Wizard" and Maxim Horvath "The Villain". Gregory Woo and Alfred Molina are cast as Sun Lok and Horvath respectively.
