Absentia has come to an end as star Stana Katic revealed on Friday that the Amazon series’ third season is its last.
Katic, who executive produces and leads the thriller drama series as Emily Byrne, paid tribute to her cast and crew, celebrated her time on the show and honored her fans with posts on Twitter and Instagram.
“When they asked me in January 2017 if I was ready to spend 3 years in Bulgaria shooting a cable TV series, I had no idea what I was in for. I could never have imagined the creative partnerships and the friendships that would form and enrich my life,” she wrote. “Three Seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey. We took our protagonist on the path of victim to survivor to … empowered architect of her own future, which is a journey I hope we can all have after this confounding year.

Absentia's fate has been decided, and it's not good news for fans holding on to hope for new episodes.
The hit Amazon thriller is over, with the recent third season serving as its conclusion.
Stana Katic broke the news on Twitter Friday, revealing that the plan was always for three seasons, but there was a possibility of more.
The former Castle actress said that “although we’ve danced with the idea of continuing the tale, Absentia was always meant to be only three seasons, and I couldn’t think of a better note to end on… for any person on this planet, but especially [Katic’s character] Emily and her loved ones.”
The series told the story of FBI special agent Emily Byrne who disappeared without a trace while hunting one of Boston's most notorious serial killers, and she is declared dead in absentia.

Emily Byrne is a survivor, so enduring a strip search and a nail in her hand on Absentia Season 3 Episode 9 wasn't a revelation, and neither was her reaction when she heard that Dawkins was at the farmhouse with Flynn.
It doesn't take much incentive to get Emily to fight but threaten her son, and the woman takes the term "mama bear" to a whole new level.
By the time she was done, no gun was left loaded, no Meridian guard was left alive, and Elliot ended up being the victim of his own deadly serum.
The message here was clear; if you want to live, don't mess with Emily's kid.
It turned out that Flynn had learned to take care of himself in his mother's absence.
I thought you’d be, you’d be more like your father. But oh no, you turn out to be more like your mother.

Nick Durand is a guilty man on Absentia Season 3 Episode 5.
At least in his own head.
Nick blames himself for not continuing to search for Emily when everyone thought she was dead. He fears he only fell in love with Alice to erase the pain of losing Emily.
On top of all that, Nick hates himself for both not seeing who Alice truly was, and not being able to save her.
You make promises, you break them. You did it to Emily. You did it to me. You’ll do it to Kai too.

Emily Byrne is a superwoman.
Or so Absentia Season 3 Episode 2 leads us to believe because who else could get stabbed in the abdomen, lose a significant amount of blood, go through surgery, and in less than 24 hours pull themself out of bed and head out on the latest mission.
That's something out of an action-adventure spy movie, which I suppose is what Absentia aims to be in episodic form.
On one level, I love it, but on another, I wish it would try to be a touch more realistic.
When Emily insisted on getting out of bed immediately after surgery, I was a little surprised that Jack didn't sedate her or have her restrained.
Jack: What are you doing out of bed?
Emily: I need to find Nick.
Jack: Okay, well let’s get you back to your room.
Emily: The FBI’s got nothing.

It’s time to buckle up for Absentia Season 3 Episode 1 and forget the standard seatbelt. We’re going to need a 5-point harness and perhaps a helmet to survive this ride!
Stana Katic returns as the indomitably fierce Special Agent Emily Byrne, but her Special Agent status is in question because Byrne’s FBI psychological evaluation came back inconclusive.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. What type of test can possibly measure the amount of trauma this woman has endured?
The title of this episode, "Tabula Rasa," is the theory that we come into this world as a blank slate and that what we "know" comes entirely through our experience and perceptions.
I'm sure Emily Byrne wishes she could turn her life into a blank slate and start over because what she's learned has been horrific.
To quickly recap, Emily was abducted, tortured, and held captive for years while her family believed she was dead.

Castle was a huge fan favorite, but by the time the show reached season 8, it seemed no one was happy.
There were rumors of infighting behind the scenes, which led to fewer and fewer scenes filmed between the two leads.
Then Castle’s lead and supporting actresses (Stana Katic and Tamala Jones) were shockingly fired weeks before Castle Season 8 ended!
Fans were outraged, so much so that they began sending coffee sleeves to ABC with messages such as #SaveCaskett and #CancelCastle. Coffee was a symbol of love and affection between the two characters throughout the series.
The show’s fans wanted the series canceled rather than have it go on without their favorite couple.
What other show has had its diehard shippers root for its demise rather than see the series-long love story end and its main couple left to bleed out on the floor?
The fans got their wish.

Amazon is finalizing a third-season renewal of thriller Absentia, starring and executive produced by Castle alumna Stana Katic, I have learned.
The full second season of Absentia, commissioned for Sony Pictures Television’s international networks, premiered June 14 on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. as well as in select markets globally, following its March 26 debut on Axn. I hear the series is already gearing up to begin production on Season 3 in Bulgaria where the first two seasons were also shot.
Created by Gaia Violo and Matt Cirulnick and based on a pilot script originally written by Violo, Absentia centers on FBI Agent Emily Byrne (Katic), who had disappeared without a trace and was declared dead after hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, Emily was found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years she was missing.

On September 25, 2017, a new thriller hit our screens. Axn’s Absentia immediately had the nation hooked with its tense plotlines and gritty action. The show tells the story of Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who mysteriously disappeared during an investigation into a series of high-profile killings. Emily is presumed dead, and slowly, those around her begin to move on with their lives. 6 years after her disappearance, Emily is found alive (if not necessarily well) in a cabin in the woods. With no memory of what’s happened to her, Emily returns home, only to find herself on the run

While Emily was getting her footing back on the job, Nick's life felt like it was falling apart on Absentia Season 2 Episode 6.
Emily Byrne is horrible when it comes to personal relationships but when it comes to her job, she's a pro.
And going undercover in Moldova might be just the thing to get her mojo back.
Emily and Cal work exceptionally well together, even during the moments when they are quietly sniping at one another.
They've got cover stories, no back up, and only each other to rely on and that appears to work for them.

I didn't think it was possible but Absentia Season 2 Episode 4 went to an even darker place.
Yet, oddly enough, my sense of dread had nothing to do the Fentanyl Killer claiming two more victims.
That churning in the pit of my stomach was caused by Tyler the terrorist stalking a child and Emily Byrne.
When that little girl began to wander down the path in the woods, I knew some horrible fate was awaiting her and waiting for it to happen was the worst kind of anticipation.
It seemed obvious that the father was packing up the car to leave, so there was no reason for Tyler to kill him. He only had to wait a few more minutes and the man and his child would have been gone.

Emily Byrne is a professional at compartamentalizing and that was on full display on Absentia Season 2 Episode 3.
She had just found out that her biological mother was still alive, only to lose her again after kicking the woman out of her home.
That set of circumstances would have left most people curled up in the fetal position and in tears.
But Emily Byrne is not most people.
Undoubtedly, she will have to deal with the emotional fallout of this loss at some point.
She'd turned her back on her biological mother, didn't believe the woman's story, practically told her she was crazy, and then left her unprotected.

When last we saw Emily Byrne, she was at a party having a panic attack on the kitchen floor.
Turns out, not a whole heck of a lot has changed as we get to Absentia Season 2 Episode 1, or perhaps it's gotten worse.
Emily looked too thin and haggard for someone who should be focusing on her recovery.
Someone get that woman a spa day!
Water is still a trigger for Emily, and it wouldn't surprise me if she never took a bath again for the rest of her life!
But Emily is convinced that there is still someone out there connected to the horrors of Barrett House and that someone may be lurking in the dark and following her.

Stana Katic’s TV comeback will continue: TVLine has confirmed that the former Castle star’s new drama Absentia has been renewed for a second season, as was quietly revealed earlier this month at the Corus Upfronts in Canada.
The sophomore run will reportedly again consist of 10 hour-long episodes. An Amazon rep did not immediately respond to TVLine’s inquiry about whether the streaming service will again host the series in the U.S. (as it did this past February).

There is though one quote that specifically covers the actions of former FBI agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic). It’s from Emily Dickinson. When the Best is gone – I know that other things are
