- Joe Stecher was born on April 4, 1893 in Dodge, Nebraska, USA. He was an actor, known for Stecher-Caddock Wrestling Match (1920). He died on March 29, 1974 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA.
- Being born and raised on a family farm, he developed tremendous leg strength by having to hold sheep still while being sheared. It was said that with the application of his leg scissors hold he could cause sacks of grain to burst. Story told by former Champion Verne Gagne.
- Served in U.S. Navy in World War I.
- Along with brother Tony Stecher, he promoted boxing and wrestling out of Minneapolis, Minnesota Office; which was the forerunner of the American Wrestling Association (A.W.A).
- Was 3 times World's Heavyweight Wrestler; having great Title Bouts with Earl Caddock, Ed "Strangler" Lewis and Stanislaus Zbyszko.
- Died while on an extended hospitalization for clinical depression.
