- Director
Tamas Patrovits is an animation film director, illustrator,
caricaturist, the founder and chairman of the Professional and Interest
Association of Hungarian Makers of Animation Films (Manifeszt) and the
chairman of ASIFA-Hungary.
He started to deal with animation at the end of eighties as a secondary school student, just at the time when the Hungarian animation filmmaking industry started collapsing. Whilst he was at the end of his studies at an art secondary school, Attila Dargay (a well-known Hungarian animation film director) just advertised an animation film inbetweener course at the Pannonia Film Studio. He was looking for staff for his new film: "The Captain of the Forest". So, a month after completion of his secondary education, Tamas had a job.
He was accepted to the Hungarian College of Craft and Design in 1987. He completed his animation degree in 1993.
By the end of the 90's, Hungarian animation in general had become rather empty. It wasn't only finance that was lacking, but also talent. This situation gave him the idea in 2005 to found the Professional and Interest Association of Hungarian Animation Film Makers (Manifeszt). As being the editor of the Association's homepage, he intends to present tough criticism of the Hungarian animation scene. This ideal also prevails in his professional work of making animation films, illustrating, and being a critic, that is, expressing his opinion and trying to give new directions to the Hungarian animation.
