Hollywood star Denzel Washington is set to play Hannibal in a new film. The 68-year-old Hollywood legend will reunite with Antoine Fuqua who directed him in 2001 movie ‘Training Day’, for which Washington won an Oscar.
He will also produce the film alongside Fuqua, Erik Olsen and Adam Goldworm, according to Deadline. John Logan will pen the script, and Jeremy Lott and Frank Rodriguez Moll are to executive produce the movie, reports ‘Female First UK’.
Hannibal commanded the forces of Carthage in their battle against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War – which took place from 218 to 201 BC – during which he invaded Italy on top of a North African war elephant.
As per ‘Female First UK’, Hannibal was also regarded as a master tactician when it came to defeating his opponents.
The movie is expected to be set after the battles between Hannibal’s troops and the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War.

Netflix is bringing a grand tale to life with Denzel Washington portraying Hannibal, the renowned Carthaginian warrior. This project marks a significant collaboration, reuniting Washington with director Antoine Fuqua. The pair previously worked together on the acclaimed 2001 film ‘Training Day,’ for which Washington bagged an Oscar. They’ve kept the partnership going, most recently with the third movie in the ‘Equalizer’ series.
The script for this Netflix epic is penned by John Logan, a three-time Oscar nominee known for ‘The Aviator,’ ‘Hugo,’ and the gripping ‘Gladiator.’ Logan’s expertise in crafting compelling historical dramas is a perfect match for Hannibal’s story. The production team includes heavy-hitters like Erik Olsen and Adam Goldworm, with Jeremy Lott and Frank Rodriguez Moll executive producing.
Hannibal’s saga is a fascinating one. He’s famous for his audacious trek over the Alps on an elephant to attack Rome, challenging the might of the Roman Republic.

Denzel Washington is on a current kick of ancient period pieces as the Academy Award-winning actor recently worked with Joel Coen on Apple’s The Tragedy of Macbeth and is about to pick up filming on the stalled Gladiator 2 film that will have to continue production after repairs are made to the deteriorating sets when it was shut down while the Screen Actors’ Guild went on strike. Deadline has now reported that Denzel will be donning extravagant period clothing yet again for a new Netflix film about the ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal.
The new Netflix historical epic will be pairing Denzel back up with his frequent collaborator, Antoine Fuqua. Washington has worked with the director for The Equalizer trilogy, as well as The Magnificent Seven remake and on the film to feature his Oscar-winning performance, Training Day. Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua are reteaming for the epic Hannibal drama for Netflix.
Fuqua will direct the film based on a script by John Logan, with Washington also producing. There’s no word on Washington’s role in the movie based on the real-life warrior Hannibal, but expect lots of characters atop elephants crossing the Alps.
Washington and Fuqua already had outings on 2001’s Training Day, 2014’s The Equalizer and 2018’s The Equalizer 2.
The historical figure Hannibal was regarded as one of the greatest military commanders in history. The Netflix movie will cover pivotal battles against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War fought between the two great empires of Rome and Carthage.
The Hannibal project is part of Fuqua’s production company Hill District Media’s first look partnership with Netflix. Washington and Fuqua also worked together on the third edition of the Equalizer franchise.

Exclusive: Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is ending, why not come out with elephant-sized ambition? Netflix has attached Denzel Washington to play the ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal in an untitled epic drama that will reteam him with Antoine Fuqua for Netflix. That reunites back star and director who first teamed on 2001’s Training Day — Washington won the Oscar for that turn — and they most recently made the third installment of the Equalizer franchise.

I don't know how exactly this happens in Hollywood, but rival movies isn't necessarily uncommon. A lot of the time one will fade away and other times you'll get your White House Down meets Olympus Has Fallen. Today we get news of another such situation. We have Guy Ritchie working on his King Arthur movie Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur and today we learn Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Battle: Los Angeles) will direct Man at Arms, described as an epilogue to the Arthur legend Ritchie is said to be exploring in his film. Jeremy Lott penned the screenplay, which has been likened to Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, following the adventures of Sir Lancelot as an older man who is bent on making amends after his love for Guinevere (and hers for him) ended up destroying Arthur's Camelot. This is the second project Lott has seen go into...

Recent "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot director Jonathan Liebesman is reportedly attached to direct "Man At Arms" for Thunder Road Pictures.
Though a King Arthur story, this is not to be confused with Guy Ritchie's upcoming 'King Arthur' franchise launching effort "Knights of the Round Table" starring Charlie Hunnam and Eric Bana.
'Arms' is said to be much more akin to Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven," and follows a now elderly Lancelot who seeks to make amends due to his love affair with Guinevere destroying Camelot.
Jeremy Lott penned the script. Basil Iwanyk, who worked with Liebesman on "Wrath of the Titans," will produce.

Looks like Jonathan Liebesman has found his follow-up to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the form of a reimagining of the King Arthur legend. But, before you say Guy Ritchie is already embarking on his projected six film Knights Of The Roundtable franchise, Man At Arms sounds like a much different version of the story than we have seen. Liebesman and producer Basil Iwanyk will work together on Man At Arms, reteaming them from Wrath Of The Titans. The film will be scripted by Jeremy Lott,...

Once upon a time, the idea of competing projects for major studios was a no-no. Then Deep Impact and Armageddon came along and effectively canceled each other out. The lesson learned in that case was: it doesn’t really matter if another movie embracing the same subject matter is also in development, it only matters if it’s better. So, that being said, yet another King Arthur movie has now appeared on the industry radar to rival Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Knights Of The Roundtable.
Deadline broke the news by announcing that Jonathan Liebesman, the director behind 2014’s Turtles reboot and Terminator: Rise Of The Machines, is in line to direct Man At Arms. (Cbr) Lured by the success of Marvel’s "The Avengers," Sony Pictures is circling a high-priced pitch for a Robin Hood franchise that’s been compared in tone to the "Mission: Impossible" and "Fast and the Furious" films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pitch for "Hood" from Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott positions Robin Hood and his Merry Men as a sort of the Avengers of the Middle Ages who would appear in interconnected films. Goodman and Lott are accomplished in genre films both together and separately. They teamed up to develop "Lore." which is being directed by David Greene for Warner Bros. Goodman is also rebooting the "Underworld" franchise, while Lott penned a supernatural film called "The Falling," which has Zac Effron attached.

I'm tired of using the phrases shared universe, cinematic universe, connected movies, and shared cinematic universe. I'm using "cineverse" from now on, and I hope other people start using it, too.
Sony is already creating a Spider-Man cineverse and feels the need to make one based on Robin Hood. Nothing is official just yet, but just that fact that this on track to becoming real just seems insane to me. Cory Goodman (The Black List) and Jeremy Lott (The Falling) have created a pitch titled Hood. THR reports that Sony is paying $1-2 million for this pitch, on top of the costs of making all these movies.
The general concept is to have separate movies for Little John, Friar Tuck, and Will Scarlett - with a team-up featuring Robin Hood and his Merry Men in somewhat the same template as The Avengers. Tonally, the movies will be heist and spy movies.

There are no small risks in Hollywood these days. Just big ones. If you want that corner office and a few extra zeros on your paycheck, you better do something to get the attention of your bosses upstairs. Clearly someone at Sony is throwing around all the right buzzwords. Producer Michael De Luca has managed to get Sony to make a seven-figure deal for "Hood," via a pitch from Cory Goodman ("Priest," "The Last Witch Hunter") and Jeremy Lott ("The Falling"). And as you might guess from the title (which isn't to be confused with the project The Wachowskis tried to get moving a few years ago), this project will apply the superhero treatment to Robin Hood, Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett, creating an Avengers-esque, interconnected cinematic universe, with a tone said to be between "Mission: Impossible" and "Fast & Furious." Lol. And while there was been some hue and cry about this online,...

Robin Hood could be returning to the big screen courtesy of Sony, with a series of team-up movies akin to The Avengers...
Marvel didn't just release a string of hit films with its Cinematic Universe - it created a lucrative business model that other Hollywood studios are, it seems, tripping over themselves to reproduce.
The team-up movie concept pioneered by The Avengers could be about to break even further out of the superhero genre, as Sony is reportedly in the middle of signing a deal that involves Robin Hood. Writers Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott - the former responsible for Priest, the latter the screenwriter of forthcoming supernatural mystery The Falling - are the creative minds behind the project, which could take the form of seven movies.
The project, currently called Hood, is apparently worth a seven-figure sum, and is said to be in the vein of The Avengers, Mission: Impossible and Fast & Furious.

Sony Pictures is locking down a deal which would see the creation of a franchise centered around the character of Robin Hood.
Cory Goodman ("Priest," "The Last Witch Hunter") and Jeremy Lott ("The Falling," "Lore") penned the pitch, called "Hood," which calls for a series of movies about the outlaw and his Merry Men: Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett. Think a kind of hero team-up film set in the Middle Ages.
The tone is said to be of an action/heist variety along "Mission: Impossible" and "Fast and the Furious" lines.

Idw has announced in a new press release that they are currently planning on developing several television series based on their current comic book titles. To accomplish this, Idw has formed Idw Entertainment, an in-house television division that will soon begin work on developing shows based on “Life Undead”, “Brooklyn Animal Control”, and “V Wars” with additional projects on the way. The newly founded division will be headed up by David Ozer, the executive producer on AMC’s “The Walking Dead”, who will oversee the adaptation of Idw titles into future TV shows.
“Life Undead” will follow a New Orleans detective after he finds himself immersed in a supernatural world; “Brooklyn Animal Control” will follow the exploits of a special division of the NYPD that regulates a small community of werewolves in the big city, and “V Wars” will tell the story of the first Vampire War fought by humanity.

After scoring a surprisingly solid financial return for “Men In Black 3,” Warner Bros. had tapped that film's director, Barry Sonnenfeld, to helm the Dwayne Johnson-starring graphic novel adaptation “Lore” because hey, why not? After clashing with the studio over the budget, Sonnefeld has dropped out of the director’s chair—he’ll retain an executive producer credit—but THR is reporting the studio has already locked up a replacement. David (not Gordon) Green, director of the forthcoming low-budget sci-fi “Echo,” will be stepping up to the big leagues with the Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott-scripted film which follows “a secret society of shepherds that has long held the line on the encroachment of mythological creatures, and when the succession line is broken in modern days, a woman finds herself shouldering the responsibility to stop the creatures’ return.” Green’s directorial debut apparently had a budget of $5 million so we’re assuming.

Lore will reportedly be directed by David Green.
The newcomer signed up for the Dwayne Johnson-fronted project after Men in Black filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld failed to agree on a budget with Warner Bros, The Hollywood Reporter understands.
Based on the Idw Publishing comic book of the same name, Lore tells the story of a group of shepherds who serve as the world's last line of defence against a horde of mythological monsters.
Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott penned the movie's screenplay based on the work of Ashley Wood, T.P. Louise and Robbie Robbins.
Green has largely directed short films in the past, but will make his feature-film debut early next year with Echo.
Lore is yet to receive a release date.

It seems that Barry Sonnenfeld is not done protecting the world from hidden monsters just yet as after directing the three Men in Black films, he’s now in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the Dwayne Johnson-starring film Lore.
Deadline reports that Sonnenfeld beat out quite a few talented directors to land the film, which is an adaptation of the Ashley Wood’s Idw graphic novel of the same name. The story has been described as tonally similar to the aforementioned Men In Black franchise, which makes Sonnenfeld a good fit.

You see Dwayne Johnson‘s name, and you’re immediately interested in the whole thing, ha? Well, sorry guys, but Johnson is still not officialy on board for the upcoming Lore adaptation, while Man In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld seems to be in some serious negotiations with the folks from Warner Bros to direct this sci-fi-action spectacle.
Lore is based on a Idw book/graphic novel written by Wood and T.P. Louise, and has already been described as Men in Black with mythological creatures (see the connection with Sonnenfeld, or what?)
Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott are behind the script which is set in a world once full of mythical creatures. Then, something strange happens, the Shepherds’ line of succession is broken, and a reluctant hero soon finds her life threatened from every quarter.
So, the creatures are coming back, and now we all wonder – will the Earth be ready for their return?...

Though he’s already busy developing more than one other graphic novel adaptation (including Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens with Grant Morrison), Barry Sonnenfeld has found space on his to-do list for another. He’s in talks to direct Lore, which boasts Dwayne Johnson in the lead.Lore, which has been in development since at least 2010 when Warner Bros. optioned Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise’s Idw comic, added Johnson back in April, when he agreed to put boot to supernatural asses for the pic.If it all works out, the film – originally, and perhaps not-so-coincidentally pitched as "Men In Black with monsters" – will see Johnson recruited to ultra-secretive group the Shepherds, whose job it is to keep humanity safe from mythological beasties. Priest writer Cory Goodman wrote the script with Jeremy Lott, though we’d expect it to go through a few more drafts on its journey to the screen.
