This week on CBS’ Life in Pieces (Thursday at 8:30/7:30c, leading out of Big Bang‘s 200th episode), Betsy Brandt’s Heather shows off some seriously impressive “sext” appeal.
Alas, it is woefully misplaced.
RelatedCBS’ Life in Pieces Gets Full-Season Order
As seen in the above sneak peek, Heather texted husband Tim (played by Dan Bakkedahl) an apparently jaw-dropping lust note, and as such is a bit livid that he didn’t respond in kind.
Of course, it would help if she had actually sent the bawdy bit to him. Instead, it landed a supremely awkward elsewhere.

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
Will Smith has been breaking out his vintage rapping skills on the talk show circuit, and he busted out his classic hit "Summertime" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." It was, in a word, super 90s. By which we mean super awesome, partially because Will was wearing a white turtleneck for the entire performance.
Ice T swung by "The Tonight Show" to get some things off his chest in a game called Sound Off, and apparently he has a lot of feelings about "50 Shades of Grey." We believe his exact words were "boring, it could have been on Nickelodeon" and "how about Shade of Black, that's all you need."

If you're betting on "Boyhood" to win big at the upcoming Academy Awards, think again! Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" was deemed to be the big Oscar frontrunner but a double-dose of guild awards over the weekend tamed those prospects down. First, the Producers Guild of America gave their top honor to Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman," and the Screen Actors Guild followed suit!
"Birdman" took home the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award! But, since the movie is about acting, this award is just fitting.
My biggest surprise, and it'a welcome surprise indeed, was "The Theory of Everything's" Eddie Redmayne taking home the Outstanding Male Actor trophy. Sorry Michael Keaton! I think Redmayne truly gave the Performance of the Year award!
The usual suspects took home the movie acting awards with wins for Julianne Moore for Best Actress in "Still Alice," J.K. Simmons for Best Supporting Actor for "Whiplash,...

Spike Jonze enters the world of cybersex with a curiously detached satire
As far as sci-fi cinema is concerned, there's nothing unusual about falling in love with a computer or conjuring your perfect partner from a keyboard. In the Frankenstein-inspired 80s teen comedy Weird Science, two teenagers brought dream girl Kelly LeBrock to life by wiring a Barbie doll to a computer, while Electric Dreams placed an operating system named Edgar in the middle of a love triangle with a musical twist. Harrison Ford's Deckard didn't seem to know whether he was human or robotic as he fell in love with a replicant in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. And in Andrew Niccol's S1m0ne, a film director creates a supposedly compliant virtual movie star with whom the whole world promptly becomes infatuated, forcing him into a lifelong relationship that begets digital children. Tina Fey has sold another comedy, this one starring The Office alum Ellie Kemper as a woman starting over in New York City after leaving a doomsday cult. NBC has already ordered 13 episodes.
Deadline reports that PBS has picked up Vicious, a hit British comedy where Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi play a bickering couple who are nearing their 50th anniversary. I can’t wait.
I hope this is as good as it sounds on paper.
It would be a big deal if George Romero would be involved in The Walking Dead so, naturally, the show has tried to get him involved for an episode or two. So far, he’s refused because he’s been disappointed in the drama explaining, “… it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism.”

Another fall, another TV season… another year of people telling me that I just have to start watching New Girl.
“It’s gotten so much better since the pilot!” they’ll say. “Everyone is funny now, not just Schmidt — and it handles the will they/won’t they romance better than any other sitcom — and Zooey Deschanel’s wardrobe is adorable!”
All that may be true. But every time I give New Girl another chance — and at this point, I’ve watched at least three or four episodes — I’m left totally cold by it.

From his entrance to "Supernatural"-friendly classic rock to his final comics-based answers, CW president Mark Pedowitz had plenty to share about his network. Find out details about "Nikita," "Beauty and the Beast" and more here.
"Nikita"
Rumors have indicated that the final six episodes of "Nikita" will air as three two-hour blocks. That's not the case, according to Mark Pedowitz. At least the first four episodes of Season 4 will air separately. The finale might combine two episodes for a two-hour event, but that's it.
Fans can watch for "Nikita" to return some time in mid-November.
What's up with the "Supernatural" spinoff? Find out here.
"Beauty and the Beast"
The show's main parts -- particularly the star-crossed romance of Cat and Vincent -- won't change but some other things will for Season 2. Behind the scenes, Brad Kern has joined the show as an executive producer. More visible for viewers will...

It's been 39 years since "The Brady Bunch" concluded its five-season run, but rerun heaven has kept the series very much alive, and the cast's frequent reunions have allowed them to stay within reach of the spotlight. But what exactly has this lovable clan been up to since their goofy sitcom said goodbye in 1974? Most of them have popped up in a variety of TV shows and movies, but a few others have taken decidedly more low-key paths. Here's the story of what one of television's most famous families is up to today.
Florence Henderson (Carol Brady)
Current age: 79
The only member of the "Brady Bunch" cast to retain her icon status, Henderson appeared on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2010. She currently hosts "The Florence Henderson Show," a daily talkfest on Retirement Living TV. Henderson also regularly pops up in guest-starring roles, including a gig on "Samantha Who?" that earned her an Emmy nomination.

Shocking fans and critics alike, NBC recently announced that its sophomore series Up All Night will undergo drastic changes this season — mainly by switching from a single-camera to a multi-camera comedy.
The sitcom, starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, will go on an extended three-month hiatus sometime in December following its 11th episode. One of the biggest adjustments the series will see during this time is preparing the set to accommodate a live audience.
Along with NBC’s Community‘s epic return Feb. 7, Up All Night will resume production sometime that month. It’ll have an extended season since NBC ordered three more episodes, bringing the season’s episode count from 13 to 16. After the hiatus, five episodes filmed in the new format will air in April or May.

You might think that the nerd comedy "The Big Bang Theory" and the high fashion series "Sex and the City" have as much in common as pi and Prada. But that's not the case according to Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on the "Tbbt."
During an interview on "The Talk" on Jan. 3, she says that her character's relationship with Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Amy (Mayim Bialik), while a bit out of the ordinary, still offers similarities to Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Amanda.

Now that September is here the networks are in the final sprint for the new 2010-2011 season. If you watch TV you probably will have seen many of these shows advertised. The new season lineup includes inevitable staples (classic cop and legal dramas) and more peculiar blends (The Shield’s Michael Chiklis in a family series playing a dad with superpowers, for example); some legendary names (Jj Abrams, Shawn Ryan, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg) and many fresh faces. A few shows like The Event (NBC), Running Wilde (Fox), Broadwalk Empire (HBO) or The Walking Dead (AMC) have already created buzz. For now, however, all of them are pure potential, waiting for their chance to conquer primetime. But despite any hopes or expectations, the only thing certain is that, among all of these promising shows, very few will make it to the second season mark.

ABC’s new Alyssa Milano comedy series Romantically Challenged got off to a so-so start Monday, averaging a 3.1 rating/8 share among adults 18-49 and 11.6 million viewers in its premiere. That was in line with the premiere performance in the time slot of ABC’s short-lived sitcom Surviving Suburbia last year (3.0/7) -- but short of the debut of Samantha Who (4.5) in the same time period in 2007 with a similar Dancing with the Stars lead-in. Romantically Challenged finished second in the 9:30-10 p.m. slot behind a rerun of CBS' The Big Bang Theory. With CBS’ top comedies Big Bang and [...]...

Looking into future for CBS comedy, it seems likely that Chuck Lorre will be a part of it. He's already the key component in the success of 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Two and a Half Men,' so chances are the Tiffany network would like to see what he has in store next. That will probably be 'Mike and Molly,' a pilot that is currently in production starring Billy Gardell as a fat, charming cop who meets the girl of his dreams at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.
The girl, Molly, is going to be played by Melissa McCarthy. The fact that Melissa McCarthy will be in 'Mike and Molly' has made me want to watch it. How great is it that Sookie from 'Gilmore Girls' is getting the star turn! For fans of 'Gilmore Girls,' Sookie was always an adorable sidekick to Lorelai,...

Melissa McCarthy, beloved in PopWatch Land from her days as Sookie on Gilmore Girls and Dena on Samantha Who?, has landed the lead role in the CBS comedy pilot Mike and Molly. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mike and Molly, from Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men), revolves around "Mike (Billy Gardell), an overweight, charming police officer, and Molly (McCarthy), a pretty and plump woman, who meet at Overeaters Anonymous." Hmmm. It's nice to see a broadcast network casting a different body type as a lead, but does it have to be justified by making...

Several well-known actors -- including Tom Cavanagh, Jean Smart, Rob Morrow and Kathy Bates -- headline the latest flurry of pilot casting activity.
Scott Foley, Michael Cassidy, "Almost Famous" star Patrick Fugit, Kyle Bornheimer, Aly Michalka, Gail O'Grady and Nicholas Bishop have all landed roles as well. The rundown:
- Cavanagh, who last starred in TNT's short-lived "Trust Me," will play the title role in ABC's drama "Edgar Floats," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot, which will also star Alicia Witt and Robert Patrick, is about a psychologist by training who works as a bounty hunter. Cavanagh's other TV credits include "Ed," "Scrubs" and "Love Monkey."

Repeat nominees are the rule of thumb at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where the eligibility period is the calendar year—rather than the TV season, as is the case with the Emmys. So, new shows are traditionally given short shrift, as they've had only a few months of airtime, compared with the whole 12 of the returning series. But this year may be different, considering breakout shows such as "Modern Family," "The Good Wife," and "Nurse Jackie" have emerged as contenders."This has been an awfully good fall," says USA Today's TV critic Robert Bianco. "And I hope the trend would be that some of the new work from the summer and fall will be recognized this year." In addition to Bianco, Back Stage spoke with TV scribes Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly; Chris Beachum, contributor to TheEnvelope.com; and Barry Garron of The Hollywood Reporter to get their picks.

Chicago – The 61st Annual Emmy Award Nominations were an interesting melting pot of smart, brave, new choices and old-fashioned, predictable, stale selections.
It was fantastic to see a few first-time nominees from our own “Dream Emmys” piece including Jim Parsons for “The Big Bang Theory,” Jack McBrayer for “30 Rock,” Kristen Wiig for “Saturday Night Live,” Aaron Paul for “Breaking Bad,” Hope Davis for “In Treatment,” Toni Collette in “United States of Tara,” and Cherry Jones for “24”. Those are great choices that hint at an organization willing to think outside of the box when it comes to handing out awards.
Now, that doesn’t mean some people weren’t totally screwed. For every great choice this year, there was one that could politely be called a head-scratcher. In my humble, TV-critic opinion, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences failed to nominate what should have Won the top three dramatic categories...

Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced nominees for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards in full on Thursday, July 16. NBC's comedy series "30 Rock" led the pack with a total of 22 nods. The amount of nominations the show has received marks the most nods that a TV show has ever collected in history.
Beside scoring Best Actress in Comedy nomination for its leading actress Tina Fey, "30 Rock" also earned Best Actor in Comedy nomination for its leading actor, Alec Baldwin. Outstanding Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actor in Comedy, as well as Best Supporting Actress in Comedy were some other nods that the show got. In addition to those, "30 Rock" brought Jennifer Aniston a gong for Outstanding Guest Actress In a Comedy Series, thanks to her guest starring role as Claire.

Sigourney Weaver was "completely thrilled, astonished and delighted" with her lead actress in a miniseries or movie nomination for her work in Lifetime's "Prayers for Bobby." Weaver said she wasn't expecting a nomination for the telefilm, a true story about a mother who finds out her son is gay after he commits suicide. "Mary Griffith's story as a mother is such a wrenching one of what can happen to any parent if that parent doesn't have access to any other points of view," she said from New Mexico, where she is working on Greg Mottola's comedy "Paul." Weaver said she planned to call Griffith and Henry Czerny (Bobby) to celebrate. "I'm thrilled that this will help us get more exposure; the producers had been working for 13 years trying to get this made," she added.

30 Rock rules the Emmy Nomination Roost this year with an astounding 22 nominations. I won't be able to look at a winged woman holding a giant atom without thinking of Tina Fey. On the drama side of things, Mad Men made it's mark with a whooping 16 noms, bringing its total to a ridiculous 32 nominations since it entered contention. To give you an idea of how awesome the Emmy folks think Mad Men is, it is the only show nominated for Outstanding Writing besides Lost, which snared a single nomination in the category. Now, for the major 2009 Emmy Nominations, and our reaction.

Chicago – The 61st Annual Emmy Nominations were announced today and there were a few surprises, a few disappointments, and a variety of unusual choices. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences displayed a desire to move forward with some first-time nominees, mostly ignoring some tired staples like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Desperate Housewives,” but also missed some arguably deserving choices.
The Best Drama and Best Comedy categories expanded to seven nominees this year, which allowed for a wide variety of networks to claim a “Best” nominee.

If you're new here and click on the Emmy label below, you'll probably find a thesaurus worth of unpleasant adjectives about TV's own "Oscars". But to save you the trouble of clicking, it goes like this: I don't like them. There, that was short and sweet bitter.
Does another dark Emmy-less fate await Friday Night Lights?
What a great show. Why can't they see that?
The Academy Awards are often chastised for their obvious preferencing: Holocaust dramas, biopics, women who allow themselves to look frumpy ... but at least you can understand where they're coming from and why they go for those things even if you don't agree. Who can explain Emmy's deep love for Two and a Half Men?
When Oscar gets chastised for repeatedly ignoring a brilliant performer or filmmaker, they usually give in and do a kind of makeup 'yeah, we're sorry we ignored your brilliance!' nomination.

All five of last year's Emmy rivals for best comedy actress are back in the race and seem likely to return on July 16: Christina Applegate ("Samantha Who?"), America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("The New Adventures of Old Christine") and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds"). Since the TV academy is expanding this category to six contenders this year, that means there's room for one more. Don't count out Amy Poehler just because "Parks and Recreation" hasn't scored big with TV critics and Nielsen viewers. Unlike the previous three Emmy derbies, nominees will be chosen by a popular vote of members of the academy's acting branch – and, of course, Poehler is hugely popular. Personally, I'm rooting for her to get in. Poehler told Gold Derby that there will be no "diva clawfest" between her and former "Saturday Night Live" costar Tina Fey (last year's champ) if they both nab noms,...

Chicago – Ballots for the 61st Annual Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy nominations are due on Friday, June 26th, 2009, and we’re here to offer some advice for all of you Emmy voters still holding a ballot in your hands and trying to make those tough TV decisions.
And, like the large majority of us, if you’re not a card-carrying Emmy voter, let this serve as your populist guide to who really Should be winning Emmys this year. There’s sometime a disconnect between who actually wins the awards and who viewers Know should win the awards - i.e., the almost total lack of Emmy love for “Buffy,” “Battlestar Galactica,” etc. - so, in a fantasy world, our fantasy ballot hopes to heap some recognition on the shows and creative types who really, truly knocked our socks off in the 2008-2009 season. Chicago – ABC’s “Surviving Suburbia” was originally supposed to air on The CW but the network that found a home for “Stylista,” “13: Fear is Real,” and “Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants” decided to leave this Bob Saget sitcom off their schedule after their deal with the show’s production company fell through.
Television Rating: 0.0/5.0 It should have ended there. “Surviving Suburbia” could have been one of many unaired pilots and the world could have moved on. But ABC swooped in and picked it up. The only question worth asking is why anyone at ABC decided to give this horrible show a second chance and how many weeks it will be on before it goes back into the development hell it should have stayed in all along.

I’m almost tempted to recommend “Surviving Suburbia” just so you can appreciate what other sitcoms do well.

"America's Next Top Model" next week episode will be surprising. With the title "Now You See Me, Now You Don't", the ladies pull a disappearing act for this week's challenge. Based on the clip, it can be seen that there is a person who shows up with a full dress and covered by green fabric. This kind of stimulation has the function to show the models a wonderful breakthrough for making a different appearance on television. The green fabric will only make visible the dress but not the models.
Next week in "Top Model" tradition, seven remaining girls (Marjorie, Sheena, Elina, Samantha, Analeigh, Joslyn, and McKey) test their on-camera talents when they shoot their "CoverGirl" commercial with the help of cycle 10 winner, Whitney Thompson.
