Comebacks can be a wonderful thing. Eddie Guerrero’s comeback from drug addiction and despair in spring 2002 was inspirational. Shawn Michael’s comeback from what was thought to be a career-ending back injury was breathtaking. Ric Flair’s triumphant return in 2001, hair-raising.
Yes, there have been plenty of awesome comebacks in sports entertainment history, when great performers overcome the odds to return and are then as good, if not better, than they were during their ‘best’ years. Indeed, Shawn Michaels and Eddie Guerrero were arguably better than in their primes after their comebacks in 2002 and Steve Austin had his best ever in-ring year in 2001, a year after he was written off by some.
For every comeback worth celebrating, however, there have been comebacks that have left us scratching our heads and asking ‘why?’. The intention was good, but the execution left little to be desired and, in some circumstances,...

Shawn Michaels’ Sweet Chin Music is a signature wrestling move as recognisable as the Hulk Hogan Leg Drop or the Stone Cold Stunner. At face value it is essentially a super kick to an opponent’s chin with the sole of a boot. Though in typical ‘Showstopper’ style, Michael’s version of the kick was flamboyant in its execution, more often than not utilising the ringside crowd to ‘toot up the band’, before delivering the kick, and with it the audible crack of Sweet ‘Chin’ Music. It was perhaps the most fitting signature move for the man with the in ring persona of the brash and cocky Heartbreak Kid.
Yet over the course of Shawn Michael’s illustrious career, Sweet Chin Music became much more than a flamboyant signature move. To a certain extent it chronicled many of the iconic moments of professional wrestling. Yes it won Shawn Michaels numerous matches,...

One of the most important and identifiable parts of a wrestler’s repertoire is their entrance. Along with a superstar’s finisher, attitude, and look, a wrestler’s entrance defines who they are, and how we feel about them, before they even step into the ring.
A superstar’s entrance usually connects with their personality and sends a message to their opponent. Just think about the manner, music, and mood Mankind’s entrance creates. His entrance showed off his schizophrenic and deranged persona with as much efficacy as his promos and appearance. So if a wrestlers entrance is truly special, our opinion of that wrestler, whether good or bad, is embellished and influenced by their signature entrance.
A superstar’s entrance, as it pertains to this list, includes more than just their theme music. When referring to a superstar’s entrance, I’m referring to their: theme music, demeanor, iconic spots,...

Judging by his mugging of Randy Orton on WWE Raw, it looks like Chris Jericho will spend the foreseeable future battling with The Viper. They will surely produce some thrilling encounters, but that will not detract from Jericho’s fourth failure in consecutive pay-per-views to win a world title.
At Sunday’s WWE Over the Limit, he was pinned by defending champion Sheamus in a fatal four way that also featured Alberto Del Rio and his new nemesis Orton.
Having retired due to injury at the Elimination Chamber, and after losing cleanly against Cm Punk at Wrestlemania and Extreme Rules – this latest loss may signal the twilight of his distinguished 22 year career.
Since coming to the WWE in 1999, the Canadian grappler has come and gone, but has managed to re-invent himself with relative ease. Each one of his returns has been greeted with much fanfare; but he needs to deliver...
